I’m an old movie nerd, so I’m full of random bits of information like that. Apparently, Hollywood was kind of irked at Warner, so that is part of the reason she won the award. Many people felt she was done wrong by not being cast in My Fair Lady.
That is what my mom said. But, I loved Julie Andrews in Sound of Music. A more loved, honest and based on the truth movie you could not ask for. I guess they were even allowed to talk about God positively in those days. I wouldn't know, as I didn't come from a Christian home. Coincidentally, my mom would not see Sound of Music. Sigh!

I'm not a fan of musicals....plus the new site limits poll answers to 10 max.
(that means no more mega-polls from Seoulsearch with 50+ choices for answers - No offense, K. ;))
Actually, I guess you could put “musicals” under “other” genre :)

I also like the musicals Grease, Hairspray, The 5 Heartbeats, Selena, Labamba, The Greatest Showman.....

I looked up the information, because I HATE giving out incorrect facts. Andrews was cast as Mary Poppins, a role she would not have been able to take if she was given the role of Eliza. She won the Golden Globe for Mary Poppins and in her speech, thanked Jack Warner for “making a beautiful picture, without which none of this could have been possible”.

It was a gracious put down, lol.
The Sound of Music came a year later. Warner’s loss was Disney’s gain. I think it must have been galling to actors who could actually sing to lose parts in musicals to actors who could not sing and had to be dubbed.
