Homeschooling no doubt. Parents should take real responsibility for the children. Not dumping them into a Bible School or School just because there is no time. With children comes great responsibility.

I went to Catholic school from K-8 then Public school. Even though I don't agree with the Catholic church,I will say that I did get a good "book smarts" education. Public school was like a free for all...skipping classes, teachers for the most part didn't care if you were there or not,and kid's did pretty unspeakable thing's in class & on school grounds. In Catholic school, there's nooooo way you'd get away with any of that.

I used to think people who home schooled their kid's were emotionaly & socialy hurting their kids by sheltering them from real life. The older I get I am starting to change my mind on this. I've met some parents who are home schooling their kid's & doing an awesome job and you see the fruit of it in their kid's. I think if I had kid's & I could home school them,I would. If not, then I would just pray my head off for them 24/7 & do everything I could to support them.

Homeschooling works well for some and is terrible for others. It really depends on the child/children and the family.

amen brother tintin.

i believe in home schooling our children...

there is so much now that is being taught that it actually harms family values and morals.

not to mention that a lot of it goes against god now... even more so.

much love and god bless you brother always...

by the way... like your new look brother.

My parents chose to homeschool. My mother was bullied in school and my father was a difficult student who was passed along from grade to grade and graduated hardly knowing how to read. They didn't want either of those legacies for their own children.

I was homeschooled through 6th grade and was indifferent about it. I then attended public school for two years and came out with my self-confidence pretty much destroyed. At my request I was homeschooled again, didn't love it, but it was better than public school. When I was 15 (almost 16) I began attending the local college through a dual-enrollment program and I LOVED that.

I plan to homeschool my child.

Only two pages before someone decided to point out that all of us public educators are evil and harmful and the worst thing for their children. I suppose more credit is due; I was expecting all the public education bashing to start on the first page.

Nice to be reminded that I'm in the most hated and clearly most incompetent profession in the US! *thumbs up*

Yes, God chooses to work in all environments - homeschooling, private schools and even public schools. :p Don't underestimate good public school teachers and private school teachers, many are even Christians.

To a degree, I want my theoretical children to have the experience of navigating the opinions, views and social constructs that differ from their own experience and expectations.

I went from being home-schooled to a public school and then spent my high-school years in a private school. To me there wasn't much difference in the public school and the private school, school wasn't challenging nor exciting. The kids were the same at each school.

I teach in a public school, but when I have my own kids, my desire is to homeschool them.

I didn't homeschool for educational reasons. I knew public school would likely do a better job of educating them, at least in the upper grades. I homeschooled them because I knew that with their personalities, they would be chewed up and spit out by classmates. :p

Shouruy, my kids go to a public Charter Montessori school. I really like their teachers and the school in general. Please don't let the words of other's bother you. I have friends that home school and one in particular rips public school's apart on Facebook all the time. I have repeatedly told her that I'm glad we have choices and we should all do what work's best for our children and our families and RESPECT other's choices.

If I want religion to be part of my children's education I will send them to a Christian school. I teach them about Christ at home. I'm not saying I would be opposed to them praying in school but people need to understand the public school's are not responsible for teaching your child religion. If you have strong opposition to what they teach then do not send them to public school, but do not tear apart the ability of those teaching.

One important thing my children are learning now that has been taken out of many public and private school's is Latin. I know that might not seem important to many but I feel if they know Latin they will have a wide vocabulary and be able to understand the Bible and other languages better.

I am giving you a big thumb's up Shoryu

Most (read: ALL) of the homeschoolers I know bash public school. A lot of that is just cognitive dissonance ("Well I was homeschooled and I turned out well, so it must be the best").

My father-in-law tells me about why he is so against public school. He tells me stories he reads about 10-year-old girls having sex and that classes teach 5th graders how to do it. And stories about second graders being offered hard drugs, and boys being allowed to go into the girls bathrooms in elementary schools.

Okay, so obviously it has been about 15 years since I was in elementary school, but I can't imagine it's changed THAT much. Yes, we had "sex education" starting in 5th grade, but it was strictly about our OWN anatomy. We broke up into gender-specific groups and learned about body odor and where hair was going to grow. They continued to get more in-depth each grade on, but every time the parents had to opt IN. Meaning if they didn't sign their permission, the child would not be involved in sex education, at no penalty to the child. I wasn't offered drugs until I was 14, and even if I had been, I would've said no. And the bathroom thing is just a bunch of hokum. It was one school in some podunk town in the Northeast. But to someone who is convinced that public schools are bad, those isolated stories represent every single public school in the U.S.

I'm not sure why they believe these rumors rather than people who have actually been there.
