Hey, what's the best way to freak out a room full of kids under the age of 15? A Ouija board! The only problem is, once you figure out how they work, Ouija boards lose pretty much all of their appeal. It turns out that a bunch of people subconsciously tugging on a piece of plastic just isn't all that bone-chilling.

I used to think that too and I used to laugh at my friends whenever they played with it.. then one day me and my friend were bored and decided to try it and we asked the spirit to make the light in the basement come on even though it had not worked for several days (the bulb was burnt out and no one had changed it). After asking, the spirit said 'done'. We of course didnt think it would be real but when we opened the door to the basement the light was ON. My friend tore up the ouija board (it was just a piece of paper that we made into one) and burned it up in the backyard.

But the basic premise of a ouija board is to speak to the dead and give them a form of communication to use to respond. It is the commercialization of the idea of necromancy. It's a 'user friendly' concept of automatic writing. Though it may be created as a game it has a very specific and distinctive mindset behind it. One that is expressly forbidden in the bible. Communicate with the dead.

I saw a preview the other day for a movie called Ouija. Think it comes out later this month... It's gonna make more people fall into the temptation of wanting to experience it themselves. Why mess with evil? I don't understand.

I think symbols plays a fairly weird role in people history. Ouija is no different - some game made by Matel or whoever isn't anymore going to conjure up dead people than the people playing it will. It's just a symbol, but I understand how symbols can play significant roles in people's lives. Take the cross for instance. I've often wondered how Jesus might feel about us using a symbol of the thing that killed him as a Christian symbol of all things Christian. Might as well hold up a symbol of an electric chair. That being said, it's a strong symbol and it has affected people's lives in a largely positive way for 2k and a handful years. Symbols of the cross change with time - the symbol of a three pronged pitchfork was a cross before it belonged to the tail of Satan. The nazi swastika that everybody relates to Nazi Germany and the aryans was an equilateral cross as a symbol of good luck. I've got an old pottery pitcher made by Indians with the same symbol, thought by many as a happy symbol of prosperity. Think about rainbows! Rainbows were at one time a fairly benign and pleasant symbol. Words have symbolic memories - words like bigotry or prejudice or even the noun negro have taken on a litany of negative meanings. The reason "why" these symbols take on their "life" is misuse; used in a negative way OR used in a positive way. But the thing itself is just a THING. It's the attitude that people hold that give it action.

The oujia's not a symbol. Its really just a board with numbers and letters on it. Anyone can make one with a piece of paper. The 'game' that's purchsed is just the board with a plastic piece that has a hole so u can see the letter or number. Anyone can do the same thing with a piece of paper that has a hole cut out of it.

What's bad about using a ouija board is that spirits are being invited to communicate with the living. Some spirits will continue to try to make their presence known even after the 'game' is over.

In the Bible, the OT, the prophet Saul summoned Samuel from the dead for advice through a medium, because he was recieving no word from God or other prophets. Contact with the dead is possible based upon OT scripture. I remember Samuel was pretty peeved off about be disturbed. Let the dead lie.

I think if you really want answers or whatever, just pray. We have access to the supernatural through God. We don't need to seek dark forces to get answers. God wants us to seek Him.

Not totally sure what you're saying, but when Christ said to take up (your) cross and follow him, it doesn't mean some kind of burden one has to bear or some strain to endure or even an outright cross you have carry around. What it means is to be willing to die for Christ referred to as "dying to self". It's absolute surrender. "for whosoever wants to save his life will lose it and whoever loses his life for My sake shall save it" Luke 9:24

Like Arwen we played with them at slumber parties. We would ask questions like, will I marry, Shawn Cassidy, Donny Osmond or Michael Jackson. Of course we'd get a yes. None of us married any of those people. Maybe our Monopoly board was cursed, like Arwen said someone screwed up at the factory. I asked my Nephews magic 8 ball if I would habe chidren and it said , yes. I do have 2 children. When I asked I was marred and we did want children. I can't say the magic 8 ball predicted my future but you never know.
