If you're going to follow politics, take a bucket and a shovel.

From what I understand that's actually a Department of Deffense slogan from WW2. It literally meant don't go chatting about what you know, even if you don't think it matters, because your words could fall in unfriendly ears and be used to figure out the position of our troops and get somebody killed.

uhh... I did it wrong, I was posting this as a response to "Loose lips sink ships"...

"From such a thing (person) such a thing comes (fruit)."

Someone very naively wise once told me this about people. Beyond what they say, what becomes of their actions is more defining about them than what they do or what they say.

If a person gives it is because they are generous. If a person loves it is because they are compassionate.

A person of character will have so many things that are admirable that the only I typically say is, "From such a thing, such a thing comes."

If it;s yellow let it mellow, if it's brown flush it down.

No wait! That's not the kind of wisdom you were looking for is it?

Ok, here are some gems of wisdom that I have come across in life. No one told me these. I read them.

A true master has no need to prove himself.

You can twist perception, but reality won't budge.

The only thing constant in the world is change.

Nothing is permanent, everything is temporary (even the world itself)

Our lives are like snowflakes. Beautiful and delicate and only here for a brief moment of time.

A general once found himself in a hopeless situation, surrounded by his enemy. His spirit was greatly disturbed becasue he did not know what course of action he should take, so he asked a wise man (a zen master) what he should do. The master replied:

"Cut off your dualism, and let the one sword blade stand serenely by itself against the sky."
(In other words, stop worrying and instead focus all of your mind on your mission and your duty)

A favorite quote from The Art of War:

Discover your enemy's greatest need and deny him that.

Popularity is the hallmark of mediocrity. A saying from an old friend and I still hold to that.

There are three types of people in the world: those that enjoy maths, and those that don't.

I read The Sun Tzu also, but don't remember much from it except: find your enemy's weakest point and attack it, and always respect your enemy (so you don't underestimate them).
