Have you ever been involved with one of them? Someone who was a non-christian who claimed to encourage your walk with God? Or someone who may even have claimed to be a christian and wasn't? Someone who knew the scriptures and could talk the talk, but...... And before you knew it, your walk with the Lord had veered from where you knew you should be?

We have to be so very, very careful with whom we become involved. The scriptures warn us time and time again. God warned the children of Israel against this repeatedly.

If you've experienced this, I thought it might be helpful to others to read about your experiences.

yeah i had that in college. my ex boyfriend would go to church and read the bible and twist it in such ways that didn't make sense to me. I thought if I stayed with him eventually he would become christian, but instead he switch from Hindusim to Tibetian Buddhism. I just pray for his soul, he refuses to see the truth. He does very compassionate things but does not believe in the Bible and we just couldn't come to a concord so we had to break up. I think I walked down his path farther then I was meant to go. I should have just said no to my freshman roommate (who claimed to be a christian witch) when she wanted to have sex with her boyfriend (who thought he was merlin) but I was 18 and was still learning to speak up and say NO. Looking back I can see where I stepped off the path, but God was still with me and still protected me no matter what. there is just more darkness and you won't be able to shine God's light into the world if your so busy fighting off demons and they had alot around them. I had the wrong mindset: I wanted to save them, when I realized it wasn't my job to save them. Its Jesus' job and He already did, they just needed to hear and accept the message. the rest is in God's hands. Just learning to let go and trust in God's plan for the world. that took me a while and sometimes i fall into bad habits of thinking of ME ME ME and forget to ask "God what is YOUR will?"

I'm hesitant to answer this. But I'll bite the hook.

It's so hard to decipher if someone is a 'wolf in sheeps clothing' or just an honest believer in Jesus who still has issues. I think if we get burned by such a person, it's easy to label them as a wolf in sheep's clothing. Sometime's it's an honest sheep who fell in to some wolf like behavior.

I guess the distinction between the two is when one has intent to deceive. I think the wolf will use holy, sacred, loved and innocent things as their camouflage.

The wolf is intentionally trying to portray an image that isn't true of themselves. This is much different than the honest believer who just has a whole lotta their promised land left to possess.

It's so hard to tell what is real and what is camouflage. Sometimes you only know after time.

Like I said they'll use an apparent love for that which is sacred,, holy, loved and innocent, in order to give an image of themselves which isn't true. They may appear to love scripture! That is the sacred. They may appear to love fleeing from evil. That would be the holy. They may love to help the poor and down and out. That may be the loved. They may appear to just dote over and love children. That would be the love of the innocent.

Usually you only discover the camouflage until it's too late. Although sometimes their love of the sacred, holy, loved an innocent may seem a little too over the top and extreme. Sometimes there seems to be an effort to seem too perfect. In cases like these you may have to ask, "Why are they trying so hard?"

But you really have to be cautious about this. We shouldn't approach folks like this just for no reason. There's a fine line between being cautious and judging and assumption.

Anyways that's my input.

Part two.

I have more input.

I said before the wolf in sheep clothing uses their love for that which is sacred, holy, loved and innocent as camouflage to hide behind. I mentioned that there may be some excessive over the top behavior they use. Almost TOO much, where they're trying too hard.

For example, if they have an excessive, verbal display for that which is sacred, namely scripture, do you observe them excessively trying to live it out. Yes no one is going to be perfect. Stumbling isn't the mark of a wolf. But is there an honest attempt to live up to all the excessive talk they do in their love for the sacred?

They may have excessive talk for that which is holy. Well do they seem to be making just as excessive effort to be holy?

They may have excessive talk about loving that which is loved. Do they seem to be making an excessive effort to actually care for the poor or down and out?

Finally the love of the innocent. Do they have this excessive doting over children? Well do they seem to actually exercise an excessive amount of effort to helping those children they dote over? Or do you notice them ignoring their kids or kids in general when they're screaming and crying out for attention?

I guess if excessive talk isn't followed by just as excessive actions, then maybe a red flag should be waving.

it is very hard to tell the difference. I was listening to a cd about love and marriage, i forgot the name, but it had a section about "evil" people and how it isn't who you expect them to be. they could be deacons at the church or very prominent men that beat their wives in private, or are serial killers or just enjoy using their power to manipulate, control and pervert the lives of those around them. It talked about how their hearts are hardened and that some of them enjoy doing evil and the power trip.

the author suggested that if you are married to someone like that to set boundaries and get help and not allow domestic abuse to continue. that God is a God of love but also boundaries. Out of love for the other person's soul you will prevent them from sinning against you and against GOd's temple which is your body by removing the temptation to control and over power and beat you from their presence. YOu are to pray for them and that God sends His grace to soften their hearts and make them see their errors and truly repent. you can tell if they do because they will admit their actions were evil and they will have visible fruit of the spirit God will plant in their heart: love, patience, self-control, etc.

they said you had to find out what hold those people had over you and break them. what can they make you feel guilty about? make you think you can lose, etc.

there is a bible verse that says "the ungodly will destroy their friends with their words" or something like that. anyway, Lord we pray for your people, show us your light and your way. In Jesus name, amen.

I was unfortunately, the wolf.

Before I believed in Christ, I dated a christian girl who was pretty serious about her faith but I was into psychics, mediums, and my own beliefs of what God was and I questioned her beliefs and discussed how they were "flawed" and I think I might have put some dents in her armor of faith.

NOTE: I didn't say I was in sheep's clothing.

I agree, still_waters, it is soooo hard to tell the difference and we, as christians, want so much to give them the benefit of the doubt. It's our nature. When we first begin to see red flags, we try to lovingly encourage them in their faith (and we do need to be very careful in this regard because we're not perfect either :) ). Then their defenses appear to go up and we see more and more red flags.

There have been a couple of times that I didn't see it until it began to affect my own walk with the Lord. That's the dangerzone. We can't let anyone hinder our relationship with the Lord. If you find yourself there...run.

I don't want to discredit, belittle, darken, minimize any of the points made by 1 stillwaters, however, God has put on my heart tonight to comment on what 1stiill said, uhh, rather 'enhance,' or 'spiritualize' what as said very true....Alll those things 'wolf' does can indeed be put to task by you-love kids, practice what he preach, etc. But remember, you are not expected to 'task' this wolf alone. In fact, you ARE breaking your personal Saviour's heart when you go it alone trying to test a bf/gf for being really who they claim they are. Pray to God, He alone is able to keep us safe from the wolf, and, like the Israelites that God har put blood over doors so their firstborns weren't killled when God destroyed Egyptian babies of Pharoah's people,PRAY for the blood of Christ protection BEFORE you go out with a guy or girl,God wants that kind of ask from us.
Moral of the story: Put God to task, just ask Him to help you meet and date RIGHT ones , God bless you for combining what 1still and I have said and making it how you Godly understand deception of the wolf.

I really think this is a dangerous assumption and presumption to make of God and how he works.

So often it's said, "God does *fill in the blank* for us. So just do nothing and let him work."

I just don't think that's how it works.

We're warned often in the New Testament to test spirits, look out for false teachers and the like. If God simply did it for us 'alone', those cautions wouldn't be there.

I do agree, we shouldn't do this ALONE, but we shouldn't assume God is going to do it alone without us keeping our eyes opened as well.

I am saying that we don't go it alone, trying to grill bf/gf with questions and tests if really they wolf or a christian . I thought your first and part two parts were well thought out but just not mentioning 'God' in your thoughts, I was just enhancing what you greatly said,as I know fom personal experience that God wants you to mention His name in things of your life, every single thing, thought, action, and otherwise.

YES

I was recently struggling with someone that was struggling with their faith. We came very close to dating but their ''Questions" were just a politically correct rouse to get me to stray far enough away that I would not feel guilty about Dating her. Red flags galore, I hid from her. I holed myself up in my quiet and I waited for God.

It soon became obvious to me, time and prayer, answer many questions. I am naturally single, so any possible disturbance to this, I do not take lightly.

It is not for me to say who is not written in the Lambs Book of Life but, I will not contribute to someone else's rebellion against God.

1stilllwaters, let me clarify further. What you said was well said, very well said, but in order to test people as you say to do we MUST keep God and, asI believe, keeping the Holy Spirit in cahoots with the doings of your life. The Enemy (yes, thats Satan), will get you if you dare just test your bf or gf on your own. But with God with you asked by YOU to help you understand the Wolf (non-christian acting christian, or, as you said 1still, think it was you, said that it could be a christian battling demons or whatever. Either way, you must have God with you to cimbat the darkness of this situation. God will never leave you nor forsake you as Hebrews 13:5 says. And the battle belongs to the Lord, so go to social occassion war with Him as your protector
