It's also a mindset and not just a spirit, so the mindset (self-absorbed and willing to use 'witchcraft' (ie. manipulation, lies, deception, etc.) and any means necessary to get its own way) reaches way farther than the spirit itself.
Witchcraft and lies, deception, manipulation, are not the same thing.
Witchcraft is chock full of lies, deception, and manipulation.
Witchcraft can incorporate lies (although curiously the two witches I knew were both very honest people.) But the post I was replying to conflated deception to be considered AS witchcraft. Those are two very separate things.
I read it differently. To me, he is describing witchcraft in terms of the parenthetical list of words -
not the other way around.
He is not saying that - by definition:
~ 'lies' = witchcraft
~ 'deception' = witchcraft
~ 'manipulation' = witchcraft
- rather, he is referring to those things as being part of witchcraft, that come out of witchcraft, that result from witchcraft, etc.
And, the fact that he put the word 'witchcraft' in single quotes means he was intending a specific targeted use of the word - which he defined and described with the parenthetical list of words.
I believe he was using the word 'witchcraft' to
encapsulate those things in the parenthetical list - to
epitomize witchcraft-related characteristics.
I do not believe he was saying that each of those things in the parenthetical list was equated by definition to witchcraft.
I do not see how he could be conflating deception AS witchcraft as you say.
No - I do not think he was defining anything AS witchcraft; rather, I think he was defining the 'mindset' with 'witchcraft' characteristics.
@ValleyAnt - would you mind explaining further
exactly-and-precisely what you meant...?
