Bear in mind two things. One, the forums are not a real time chat, they are posts that can take anywhere from minutes to hours to get any response.
Also, few people are just going to send out a friend request to a random new user they have had no contact with.
Making friends takes time, and more work than just showing up and expecting people to flock to you. You have to get involved, and put yourself out there. Not just sit and wait for people to come running.
