I need some advice please! I go on YouTube frequently for the fact that sometimes there are just particular songs I want to listen to. Anyways, a person who claims to be a fellow follower of Christ was criticizing me for being unloving and rude from one comment I had made on a video.

This is the comment in question....
I just love the atheists who get on here and claim to not believe anything and yet they tell Christians they are going to Hell. Thats a contradiction for the Starburst commercial.

Now I know I should probably not have said it, but I was having a bad day and I was getting sick and tired of God's name and the Bible being trashed. Most of the discussions I have been in with people who claim to be atheist will send me straight to Hell as retaliation and they also send others. Now I know they can't really send me or anyone to Hell cause God is going to decide all that, but it is annoying that that is there comeback.

This girl is still criticizing me when I have had another person defend me. She is twisting my words and I don't know how to handle it anymore. She is also saying I am not a Christian and if I claim to be that I don't deserve to (in her words) be an ambassador to the world. Advice please? Other than just let it be...cause I am not the type of person who is going to stand by while someone twists up my words and calls me unchristian.

This is a link to the video on YouTube if you want to try and go read the full "discussion."

I suggest you simply state your position and then leave it. Continuing to argue over the same topic just ratchets up the emotion to an out-of-control level.

It's hard not to react to words or deeds but sometimes it's the most powerful non-verbal statement a Christian can make. Think of Christ's reaction to Pilate's questions..silence. Sometimes it just works :)

A conversation can easily lose it's impact when emotion takes over.

There are actually atheists who tell people they are going to hell? They are probably not the brightest atheists on the planet.

You are right. Normally if I comment I can have an adult conversation with the person opposed to my idea. (Minus a few cuss words thrown out by them.) By that time though I normally just let them be cause they are clearly too blinded for me to show them the truth over the internet. My problem with this person is that they are claiming to be a Christian. This person has called me a jerk, unloving, retarded(which I can not stand that word cause I think it is so mean and hurtful and I told him/her to refrain from saying it), and basically, the way I interpreted, called me unchristian. Thanks for the advice. I think I am just going to ignore those messages from him/her.

My thoughts exactly which is why I made the comment. The atheists that I have had conversations with tend to "preach" that they do not believe anything illogical and yet some of the very statements they use are illogical. Talk about confusing.

Your statement seemed fine to me. Some people just like to nitpick. She's probably a bit self righteous. I suggest just ignoring her. Or blocking her if possible. Shes not worth your time.

I admire you for 'defending the faith' in the face of opposition or wrong-thinking.... that's very important :)

At some point, though, an irrational conversation just needs to be ended.

Keep up the good work ;)

I think what you're seeing is a poorly explained but otherwise sensible argument. Let's say I'm talking to a badly behaving Buddhist. I could say:

I don't believe what you're saying about rebirth, but for a moment let's assume you're correct. According to what you're teaching, you yourself are going to be reborn as a dog. If you believe your ideas are correct, why are you not living by them? I suspect you don't actually believe your ideas.

It's a common sort of argument, to work within someone else's claims without adopting them. It's like my mother: ok, so you didn't raid the pantry, but you're covered in chocolate. Her point is not that chocolate fell from the skies, but in fact that I did raid the pantry. She wants me to see the absurdity of what I'm claiming.

Atheists often have a point: ok, so you believe in heaven and hell, but you're not acting like it. The way you're acting, you'd end up in hell. Is the argument applicable in your case? Dunno, don't care to judge. But even if it doesn't apply, the argument's not necessarily illogical, it's just wrong.

No one has yet to bring up a logical argument like that which is why I call it illogical. So far it has been that they just automatically send me to Hell for explaining/defending what I believe. If that isn't an illogical argument then I really don't know what is. Also I really don't pay much attention to it when they say that cause they're there for one of two reasons. 1) They are curious about God, but are keeping up their "atheist barriers" or 2) They are just there to troll. Honestly when you go to YouTube it doesn't automatically send you to a video. You have to search for one.
