I've really been wanting to ask other people about this, but what do you feel about Harry Potter? I am a big Christian, yet I'm in love with Harry Potter. I've grown up with it and It was my childhood, even as a teenager, I read almost a chapter of one of the books every day.

I don't believe the message J.K. Rowling is trying to send to kids is witchcraft is good and cool, but that friendship and love is the most important thing we have in life. And that it doesn't matter your background or who your parents are, it's the choices you make that are truly the things that define who you are.

What a coincidence! My parents were discussing this earlier after watching Avatar.
I firmly agree with your opinion that the main message conveyed within Harry Potter as a medium is the value of friendship, and I think, heck, when are we ever gonna be able to do this sort of thing in real life? And it's fun to be able to dream beyond our realities...

...but if those fantasies include a world without God? No thanks, I'll stay over here, in reality. I would prefer to talk about God to someone any day over staying in my room and reading HP.

the way i see it is that today we see in movies or people etc talk about love, friendship, loyalty but they never mention the source of it all that's Jesus .so in the end it's like mankind is the source of it and don't need Him. It's nice you can discern there's this message of withcraft and that it's not good but many other people can't do that and are encouraged to find out more about it by reading occultism books and so on(this happened to someone i know).

We are told to be in the world not of the world. Harry Potter is a perfect snapshot of relative truth. Magic and sorcery being mixed with ideals of sacrifice and friendship and love. There is opportunity for us to enter into the world with our convictions in God and reaching into the popular culture with the overlap of Christ's sacrifice, friendship and love.

Happy Potter is the same as playing a video game or watching some TV show. It is harmless in itself but if you let it get a grip of you in the wrong way it can harm you. my friends brother started dabbling in REAL witchcraft because of it but is that harry potters fault? Not really. It's like a child jumping into the ocean to find spongebob. It is not real and it is entertainment. But if we make it more then that then yes it is a sin.
When I watched harry potter I didn't feel need to do anything with witchcraft and it didn't give me bad intentions or anything so for me harry potter is harmless. But if it has the wrong grip on you then you should avoid it. Everyones different and everything effects everyone differently.
THIS DOES NOT MEAN AVOID EVERYTHING. It means to be disciplined and know what you can and can not watch. this I believe is a personal conviction not a all around one.
