Well, that's a pretty dress. At least be grateful you HAVE clothes to wear. Some kids don't. I endured 6 years of having to wear dresses and skirts in school. If I could do it, you can do it. :) You may not like it, but for the next few years, you have to wear dresses or skirts. Once you're 18 and move out, you can wear whatever you want.
My sister is 19 and she had a dress too!

Can you mom make my daughter dresses?

She is 8 and keeps asking, but my sewing is only so-so.

If you are so inclined you could, see,if your mom will let you make your own or go with, her to pick, the fabric.

I think this is really common in today's culture.

Parent Style A: Parents make all the decisions for their adolescent teens. It yields their teens to grow up dependent on mommy and daddy to make life decisions and "grow up" living with mom until they are 35.

Parent Style B: Parents don't care what their adolescent teens do. Teens have no structure on how to make mature and wise decisions because they had the reigns over their lives from day 1.

Would mum let you pick out your own fabric? And do you know how to sew? If so, ask her if you can make your own dresses..

Parenting style C

Parents try to live godly lives and raise their children to love the Lord through their words and actions. The set firm boundaries and communicate them to their children at an early age and give age appropriate consequences for misbehavior before it builds to become a life altering bad choice. They also allow their children to make age appropriate choices concerning their own life. Always showing that they love them no matter what. Also giving them chores and responsibilities to help the household run smoother....washing dishes, taking out trash, laundry, cooking are all things kids need to learn to do on their own. Might as well let them practice when they are old enough. My kids Have helped with chores, since before they were actually helping.

Lol toddlers can "dry" plastic plates and cups for you.

That's the parenting style I hope most Christians use.

I do chores, I have extremely firm boundaries and what Mum thinks are age appropriate consequences, so I guess she is a C then

It makes me think of the von Trapp family, the Sound of Music, before Mariah arrived, with that whistle.
Well I basically wear a dress all the time, but that was for dinner, so we dressed up.

I suppose it's all relative to who the person grading the parents is. lol

I wish my mother was still alive to tell me what to do.

I feel sorry for your loss but does it mean I can't ever say anything about my mother?
No it doesn't, but what is happening to you now is small potatoes compared to the rest of your life.

Of course it is, but it's all she knows and likely the most dramatic thing that has happened her entire life. Anything beyond what someone has experienced is nearly impossible to comprehend even if it is known to exist.

Most of the posters here have problems that are "small potatoes" to survivors of Nazi Germany's concentration camps.
