Did you guys see it? Did you like it? What would you say to some of the detractors who claim it is just a bloody gore fest for shock value and unnecessary? Did you think it was anti-semitic? How does it live up to other Jesus films? Better/worse..

I want to make films someday and thought we coud discuss the movie here. Sorry if similar topics have been made in the past.

If so, the mods can feel free to delete/combine with other similar subjects if need be!

Yes I saw it and I own it. Thought it was aswesome and the most accurate protrial of the suffering and crucifiction of Jesus ever made in film or any other media know to man short of the Bible. My favoritte part is towards the end after Jesus had fallen with the cross. After they got him up he took hold of that cross and embraced it. Someone in the crowd cried out; "Why do You embrace Your cross?" Wow! What a powerful testimony to the Love He has for us. It wasn't His cross He embraced, it was "my" cross and "your" cross He embraced! No other movie adds up to it in my opinion.

The irony in Mel Gibson's masterful and respectful handling of the sheer brutality of Jesus' Passion is that it left me as a viewer wanting more. No, not more blood and gore but more of the rather brilliant and moving flashbacks to moments with his mother or when he taught, which left me desiring a prequel if you will where Gibson would follow the life of Christ from birth until death, as in the more traditional pictures of our Savior from the 1960's and 70's. Nevermind the mostly negative reviews this film received upon release back in 2004. This film is very, very well put together and certainly the most blunt and raw portrayal of a human being beaten, tortured, and murdered in a motion picture. I'm no professional critic but I give it 4 stars easily.

I find funny the non-Christian girl who comes to a Christian site discussing secular shock rock bands, and bloody horror movies calls into question the 'unnecessary' 'bloody gore fest' of the reenactment of a historical act in history.

As far as anti-semitic, well, its again a reenactment of history, it has nothing to do with opinion.

Wow..why are you trying to incite an arguement? I never said anything positive nor negative about the movie... I only wanted to discuss it and see you guys's opinions on it...I actually left my views completely out of it. I never said I felt any of it was unnecessary or anti semitic......I was only stating that there are people out there who feel that way and was curious on some of your opinions.

I'm a bit offended and saddened by your attempt to attack me here. I did nothing hateful or wrong...I'm not argueing anything about the movie. I like the movie actually.

And I don't really care for bloody movies, simply for the sake of blood and shock. If it's necessary however, I am ok with it....I mean, I don't feel it's wrong or anything. I don't really care either way to be honest...But I'm more into a good story than just blood for the sake of blood. . I HATE shock rock bands. Shock rock to me is bands like GWAR or Slipknot...bands that dress in costumes and have crazy lyrics just for the sake of it...with no point or message

Bands like Marilyn Manson sadly get caught up in that dumb "shock rock" category because some of what he does is offensive, but there is always brilliance behind it...and it's always for a point. He's a story teller and speaks through characters...just like Alice Cooper...another one that gets caught up in that whole stupid shock rock thing...Alice Cooper makes christian music!!!

If anything was unnecessary, it was this comment of yours, Ugly.

I know this is a big christian film, but I thought it was boring because I already knew what was going to happen.

Michelle, I liked the film. I did see it, and I have a big list of bible films if you would like me to post, that I think are true to the gospel.

May Jesus bless you.

p.s. actually, I have the list as a pot on here from some time ago.

I thought it was shocking. I wasn't prepared for how brutal the pain inflicted on Christ would be. When people think of his crucifixion they usually think of him already wearing the crown of thorns and his back bleeding from the whip but they don't think about how painful those things were. I don't think there is any way it could NOT be anti-semitic because it was the jews that sent him to his death. The whole gospel is by default anti-semitic.

What I find ironic is that Evangelicals absolutely love The Passion and claim how closely it follows the Bible, when in reality it exactly mirrors the Stations of the Cross. Which includes such scenes from Catholic tradition like Veronica wiping the face of Jesus, and the number of times Jesus falls.

I don't think of the Gospel as being anti-semitic, at all. Jesus died to pay the price for EVERYONE'S sin, both Jew and Gentile. It's true that He was accused and delivered up by the religious rulers of the day, who happened to be Jewish (it was Jerusalem, after all), but my sin caused Jesus to die just as much as anyone else's sin, Pharisees included. We have ALL sinned, and come short of the glory of God. That's why Jesus came to buy us back, praise His name! :)
