This is a serious problem. Suicide is the #11 biggest killer in the US. It is not to be taken lightly.

Cutting is usually a sign of experiencing emotional deadness. The cutting though inducing pain, is a
feeling and those that cut usually try to replace emotional feelings with physical feelings like pain
in an attempt to feel something.

I would suggest you go to your local police and ask their advice. Your friend needs counseling but
it won't help if he takes his life first. The first step may be to secure his safety even if it is against
his will which the police can assist you in doing. Once his safety is secure, counselors will be able
to help him.

These steps sound extreme but once a person starts cutting, suicide is usually the next step. If
extreme measures are not taken, suicide will most likely happen unless something else intervenes
in his life. I would suggest you talk to the police and they usually know those that can help.

Ask any counselor, once cutting starts, the time clock is ticking. Cutting is a serious indicator.

Pray that God will intervene, that He will put the fear of God in him.
Have you tried telling him that if he does that, his suffering will be even worse?
Does he know there is a God, who can help him?
Prayer, loads of prayer.

It's so sad when you hear that someone takes their own life because of their pain/suffering here on earth, if only they knew what that would lead to, they wouldn't do it. Even more suffering, but for eternity.

i went through this to.... my best friend wanted to take her life...
i was praying one night and God showed me... he took me to her room and she had a bottle of pills laying next to her....
so i got up and i called her...
and she said that she was going to sleep
i didnt know what i was suppose to do... i thought maby that was just me being negative and that she wasnt thinking about killing herself...
so long story short
so the next day we got to school and she started crying and told me what was going on...i called my pastor and they talked later that night...
she was still feeling the same way untill we went to the friday night service and the ministers prayed for her and sat down and got to the root of the problem....

so my sugestion is first and formost pray!!! and believe God...
and seek spiritual assitance...
you have to get to the root for the problem...

this can't be easy for you, but i kno God can help you with the situation. keep praying, as others have said, but also make sure you really show this guy how much of a friend you are, i doubt he feels loved at the moment, so he's gonna need some extra love for a while. i think what concernedguy was saying is good advice too, the police could help alot. i'll pray for your friend too ^^
