I had this problem for a long time. You may start by:

Ridding yourself of worldly things that would not approve of (for me this was mostly music and movies. I can't tell you how many slipknot songs I deleted haha)
Picture Jesus doing what you may find as "maybe acceptable" and reassess if it is ok or not.

Read your Bible. Not from front to back, but in chronological order. Heres the list
Chronological order of the books of the Bible

I have done/am doing these things and my relationship with Yahweh is stronger everyday. I no longer care about worldly possessions, fame, status, etc... These things mean nothing for we all die in the end (spoiler alert :p ) For once in my life I feel like I have purpose in my life and free.

Hi, Keira :) It sounds like you're in a tough spot, but don't despair, because growth in Christ is a process. Don't expect to become perfect overnight, or anything (in fact, don't ever expect to become perfect, it's just something to strive for, with Jesus' help :)). For most new Christians, God sort of slowly brings you along, and has you give up things that are getting in the way of a relationship with Him. If there are things in your life that you know you need to stop doing, then by all means, turn them over to Jesus, and ask Him to help you. I'm sure it's hard, especially at first, but I know that every time I have "surrendered" to Jesus something that I thought was important (like, wanting a husband, or a certain career), giving it up has brought me a lot of peace in the end. If you feel like you're doing some things that you shouldn't be doing, then give them up to Him! Cast all your care upon Him, for He careth for you........:)

Snackersmom is completely right
our relationships with god our a gradual process
but we always take a big step when we become dependent on Him
you just have to allow Him
so ask for his help and believe and know that he will help you

hey, this my first time on this site its truly a blessing. but everything that they are saying is true find yourself around positive christian people. focus on god find yourself reading the bible, fasting and praying. you have to give up the thingss thats hindering your growth in the lord. god said that u can do all things thru christ which strengthen you. you can do it with the help of the lord. god said always acknowledge him and he will direct thy path.

Regards to your question, I regularly ask my three daughters over lunch/dinner, 'Is God good in your life?' :)

My point is, unless you surrender your life to Jesus, you will not see his blessings. So, if my daughters desire a sound mind, healthy body, strong in academic results and a strong spirit, they know the first thing is to lay their life down for Jesus.

Take the first step, 'Surrender your life to Him & He will make a difference in your life!'
Press on!
:)

Kiera, the bible says all things work together for good to those who love the Lord. Sometimes the other way might seem brighter, but always remember God never fails you and He will always be faithful, hold on to His promises.

As bushido8000 said I find what you hear has a lot to do with what you think and feel. Praise and worship music cleans the attmosphere. If you listen to slipknot while your driving do you not feel energized and find yourself driving faster, if you listen to slow music do you feel relaxed and drive slower. I know if I watch war movies it affects my mood and god don't cross my mind. If I watch christian movies I think of god a lot more. Play more christian movies and music. Even when you sleep your spirit will absorb that music even when your mind don't percieve. As soon as you are saved you receive the holy spirit but its like a glass of water. You can have just a little water in it with out it being full. So is our portion of the holy spirit sometimes. The closer you get with god and pray to be filled and ovetflowing with the holy spirit. It will be easier to live by the spirit and not flesh. We can't serve god they way he wants on our own power, it has to come from him. The ears and eyes are windows to your spirit. If you let light in so shall your spirit give light. If darkness is all that enters how then can your spirit be lit. When you read bible, read outloud to yourself. Fill your eyes and ears.

My mom highly recommended this book to me a while back. I never got around to reading it but I've heard it's good.
