I talked recently with my friend about my strange abilty to find certain type of people.
I mean people who have had really bad things happened in their lives. Rape, abuse, violence, depression and the list goes on.

My friend told me that he feels I have a gift to listen and that way help those people. To show them that there is still someone who cares.

But what should I think or feel when I see the life of these people collapsing. I heard today that the newest of these people I have gotten known have been sent to hospital for her depression and suicidal thoughts.

The question I had in mind. Wouldn't I been able to do something for her better?

This is a hard concept but I had to grasp it eventually.
you can't help everyone. I have given people great advice concerning things and they won't take it.

rule number one you can't help someone who refuses to be helped. not possible. I plain out ask people if they want help and some just plainly say no I don't want help and I don't want to stop. you can be there as a encouragement and such but no real helping happens unless they get to a point where they seek for it. (from my experience) praying is your biggest way to help trust me.
Also for people who say they want help a lot of times they will fail and you will feel its your fault but its not, its never your fault for someone elses actions and sometimes people make there self un helpable.
Jesus is the ultimate help and bringing someone to Jesus is how real healing happens. Always center everything on him. You can give normal advice tell them what to do ect ect. if you leave out God no ones really being helped.
hope this helped

Joe has a good point, as much as we all would love to help everyone in the world, we can't. However, God can, i'd say pray about it. Ask god to help the lifes of those personally, unlike us, he knows everyone's heart, everyone's life story, everyone's streghts and weaknesses. Most importantly he has the power to help everyone of those people. Untill then know this world won't last forever, and soon our pain will be over, no sin, no death, no pain. I love you but god loves you more so go to him, dont be shy, its ok because sometimes i am too ^^

You need to understand that the only people who are gonna get these people better is themselves and there's really nothing you can do much more than encourage them. I should know, I've been down that road. Don't be dismayed when things go awry, it's not your fault and it certainly didn't happen because you didn't do enough. It just means there's more they had to go through for themselves. Don't ever blame yourself when things like that happen.

Well put Kate. Do only what you can and leave the rest in God's hands.
