no. THE LAW was given to Mose's at Mt Sinai. Abraham had no law except to follow God.
Everything in the book of Leviticus and Deuteronomy were written to OLD TESTAMENT ISRAEL FROM GOD. We are not in old testament Israel.
Are we apart of old testament Israel? no. Is anyone? No. Old testament Israel came to pass.
Read the book of Leviticus, and then look who it's written to and then look at all the dozens of laws that have no implication to us today.

I was naming other laws in Leviticus when you named the tattoo one just to show you that we no longer are BOUND by those law. I never said I had a problem with them, all I said was those Laws do not apply to us. If you think I'm lying then go read the book of Leviticus for yourself.

There are several texts in the Bible that forbid the cutting or marking of our bodies. You can look these up and study them for yourself: Leviticus 19:28; Leviticus 21:5; and Deuteronomy 14:1. I believe these would apply to tattoos and body piercing. The pagans who did not believe they were created by God consequently had no respect for the human body. Satan wishes to erase God's image in man in every way that he can. Virtually every pagan religion of the world has some form of self-mutilation. The prophets of Baal speared themselves with lances on Mt. Carmel in order to please their god. The demoniac deliberately gouged and lacerated his flesh with stones.

As Christians we have an entirely different perspective. "What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's" (1 Corinthians 6:19, 20).

Amen Brother!

Times may have changed, but God hasn't. He never does. I won't burden everyone with a list of Bible verses to support this point; suffice to say that it is a recurring thread throughout the entire Bible. That means that if God didn't like tattoos in the Old Testament, He doesn't like them today.

The point of the New Testament is not that God changed His mind about anything, but that He provided us with a way to be reconciled to him even though we are sinners. When we are saved, according to the apostle, Paul, we are filled with the desire to be more Christlike, even though we will never attain it. In my opinion, that means that Christians should not even want to get tattoos.

However, if we succumb to temptation, as we all do, God recognizes our human frailties and is willing to forgive us if we repent and ask His forgiveness. This is also a recurring theme in Scripture. Therefore, I believe that the first tattoo, while regrettable, is tolerable, but a second tattoo is really pushing the envelope.

If this sounds like a lecture, I do not mean it to be. It is just what I, one person believe.
God bless you.
I agree, God does uses mans disobedience for His Glory. Thank God! lol i can only speak for myself but i am proud of having Galations 2:20 on my arms. i love seeing all the time and the conversations that come up because of them. this is only because God is merciful and has allowed my mistake to be used for good. Praise Him.

Have you ever thought that Jesus IS the Sabbath? For HE is our rest. and the sabbath is the day of rest. not everyone can get off sunday/saturday from work and cant go to church etc...so What can we say to that? it is his commandment to keep the sabbath, correct. however i am still studying to find the many things that CHRIST has taken for us. including many of the old requirements from the old testamant. we no longer do sacrifices from the old testament so why do we pick and choose which to continue and which not to? we have to look in the NT to figure these out.

In Christ,
Jim

the thing is we are not bound by old testament Israelite laws. The laws God gave Israel are completely different then how were suppose to live now. We would not be able to work on the sabbath. Have to give sin sacrifices, ect ect but we us as believers after Christ's death are not bound by those rules.
There are over 500+ commandments from God in the old testament but Jesus summed it up

Matthew 22:37-40
Jesus said to him, “ ‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’[a] 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’[b] 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”

If we really love God we will be careful. Because of our love for God will be the way we live our life. I don't believe certain things are wrong but because of my testimony I will stay away from there so I don't shame God's name. The thing is with stuff like this "grey areas" there is not a one answer fits all. Depending on where you live and what your trying to accomplish answers the question. I used to think of what I could or could not get away with but now instead I think of if something is beneficial or not. there's a lot of things that are not classified sins but they will shame Gods name. If we loved God with all of our heart we would avoid these things instead of just saying. "well its not a sin so im fine"
This all comes down to judgment. for things that are not specifically noted in the bible I try not to tell anyone what to do because I really can't answer them for someone whose not myself. For grey areas such as this you need to look at the long term and Godly aspects. Will it help or take away for what I stand for? Ask that and you will have your answer.
Hope it helps God bless.
I've wondered about piercings in the same light as tattoos, any advice?

hello brother, i have tattoos and piercings and honestly the holy spirit has finally opened my eyes to show me that we are made in gods image. therefore we are not to add to it. so personally for me no more tattoos. and as for piercings i would tell you pray alot about it. ask the spirit to awaken inside you and show you the way. noone on earth can tell you what is right or wrong. i hope that helps

very true this is personal conviction. Tattoos though are a bigger subject because they are permanent but piercings not to so much. But it's still nothing to be ignored.
What purpose are you trying to accomplish for God? And will these piercings make it easier or harder to fulfill that purpose. The Spirit does come into play with a lot of convicting but when it's not specifically convicting us we need to use logic from Gods word. For some people it doesn't take away. But for others it will. You need to make a decision if the piercings are going to help or hinder your testimony.
Only you are the judge of that one.
Your culture and your society plays a big role. There is no definite yes or no.

I plan to get my wings tattooed on my back when I can afford it, but right now bills kinda take priority. My sister just get inked a few days ago... my parents are against tattoos. Glad I don't live at home anymore, I can only imagine the yelling that will ensue when they see it.

be careful with what you say, and there are no "model" Christians in the world today.

Thats not true!! there are saints that live this life like us, they are close to God. There are modern saints. be careful with what you say.

Tattoos are ALWAYS a form of egotism... i have many tattoos... I know that they are cherished protions of your life that they can represent... but we dont need to take our ego with us on our skin... how can you die to the ego if it is tattooed in flesh?? It doesnt matter what the tattoo is of. A cross... a demon.. a naked lady who cares?? Ultimately it is not God. God is not an idea or an ideal... God is the Lord of the Universe. God cannot be written in skin... God is written in our hearts. There is no gray area about tattoos. tattoos are idolotry, paying homage to a concept or ideal or a function or anything it doesnt matter.. God is written in every corner of the universe.

i know you feel strongly about this subject and I have the same concept as you do.
but just because you feel strongly about something doesn't mean its scripture.

Citing indivuidual scripture is folly. the Bible means nothing at all taken out of context. The books as a whole are illuminated by Jesus Christ, not just sayings. Chirst is not the bearer of truth, the conveyor of truth... Christ is truth. Christ is the scripture. Everything in the bible is about Jesus Christ. its not a textbook or a recipe book or a science book... the trouble comes when we transmute the wisdom of Holy Scripture to be "fact"
fact is not truth. scientific proof is not love. and maybe i would go so far as to say that proof text from the Bible is not justification.

Don't bring up the verse in the old testament forbidding it because that law was for Israel not mentioned in the new testament.
What about this verses from Mathew 5?

17 Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. 19 Therefore anyone who sets aside one of the least of these commands and teaches others accordingly will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. (Math 5:17-19)

Hey do you also keep the sabbath and sacrifice animals for peace offerings? Do you not do any work on the sabbath?
THOSE LAWS ARE FOR ISRAEL. If your brother died would you marry his wife and help raise his children?
THOSE LAWS ARE FOR ISRAEL so don't say they apply now. Give me a new testament reference forbidding it.
this is the classic example of using scripture OUT OF CONTEXT.
I personally don't agree with tattoos but nothing in the new testament forbids it.
As for the sabbath and the animal sacrifices isn't the sacrifice of Christ the reason why christians stopped doing them?

29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, "Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!"

As for the rest... yeah, why does not a brother marry the wife of his dead brother and help raise his children? There must be a reason for christians not following all the rules of the old testament but I don't think that "those laws are for Israel" is it.

My english is not so good when it comes to religious conversations so I'm sorry if something is unclear. I'll be happy to try and rephrase it.

Romans
14 I am convinced, being fully persuaded in the Lord Jesus, that nothing is unclean in itself. But if anyone regards something as unclean, then for that person it is unclean.

22 So whatever you believe about these things keep between yourself and God. Blessed is the one who does not condemn himself by what he approves.

This is what I think--straight from Paul.
