I was wondering because I do not want to join a church who would keep tithing records on members. I was wondering if any of you know of any church who keeps tithing records on members. I was reading online that someone said that in one church (according to them it was a United Pentecostal Church) that a person had to undergo heart surgery or some sort of surgery and the pastor checked his or her records and it showed that he or she was behind on his or her tithes because he or she can no longer afford it due to the expense of the surgery so the pastor kicked him or her out of the church and banned him or her from coming back.

I just want to be sure so I know what churches to avoid. I do not like churches who keep records on each members tithing.

it depends on the church, not the denomination. Assembly of God churches have a governance, and they do keep record when record is GIVEN. but that is simply a choice to do. my church mails a statement to you for your records, and sends a church income record to the governance, but they would NOT refrain from helping someone in need because they're behind on tithes. that is against scripture. AG's mission statement is based on missions and helping those in need... not keeping check on people's finances. the pastor who did that is either worried about his church's income or greedy about the income and was not trusting God to make the difference.

Some keep records for tax purposes. One should stay clear of a church who is going to kick you out because you didn't tithe and you were having surgery.
