I have so many vices and try to strike sin out of my heart daily but there are so many road blocks in my head and so many distractions from god. All I can do is work like a robot slave and pay the bills. I'm very tired. Does anyone know a way out of satan's system? I've though about joining the Amish.

We are supposed to work... In fact considering the curse in Genesis 3, I say we have it very easy!

Prepare to churn butter!, ride horse buggies, use cattle to till the fields, and grow a beard. JK, the amish's way of life is very interesting and very natural. They don't use modern conveniences (at least the strict ones don't such as cars, cellphones, internet etc.)

You may want to be a bit more specific about your "distractions from God?" Some people on here may be able to help you better. If it's sin in your life, try to write out why you do it? Such as an escape mechanism, if drinking to get drunk and forget life? or some hidden hurt from years ago you haven't dealt with? Then take it to God in prayer. That's all I got as far as advice.

My limited knowledge about the Amish puts me in mind of those who join historic societies and spend weekends re fighting
WW2 or whatever complete with period dress and Glen Miller recordings. That may be fun for some but being stuck in the
19th Century for good would be a nightmare for most including myself. Anyway perhaps we may receive a progress report via that new fangled telegraph system if Raleightree goes for it lol

I dunno tanakh, the more saturated in tech and transhumanism we get, the more appealing "tending the land" sounds to me...

I think this is what you are looking for.

Romans 12:1-2 NLT
[1] And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies
to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy
sacrifice-the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship
him. [2] Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God
transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then
you will learn to know God's will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

Romans 12:1-2 NKJV
[1] I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you
present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is
your reasonable service. [2] And do not be conformed to this world, but
be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what
is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

I think I know how you feel mate. A couple of years ago, I woke up in the morning getting ready for work and I found myself praying, telling God I feel like I'm still a slave, I'm going to work because I have to, not because I want to, there has to be another way but I don't know it. Over time, I believe He has been showing me some stuff, just briefly..
1. Find what you love to do and make it your job
2. Simply your life so you don't rely on money as much and don't require a large income stream.
3. Work out ways to generate multiple income streams, not just one where majority of middle classers are stuck in, that rat race and mind set of having a paying job (one income stream) wealthy people develop ways to have less liabilities in life and more assets ( owning things that generate income, assets is not owning things ) a good book on this to open your eyes is Rich Dad, Poor Dad.

Which above path you choose to take or a mixture of all, all I believe are solutions to getting out of the 'system'.
And I would say there as many other solutions, ask God for wisdom, but I tell you, it takes time, effort and a lot of new ways of thinking.

Joining the Amish may look like a good answer, and there is serenity and hard work, and community there. But I don't think you will find what you are looking for there. I have seen this community closely and interacted with it.

What is missing is deep inner peace and the power of Christ transforming the soul.

And it seems to me the above is probably what you are after.

How to find it? in Jesus Christ, of course, but you know that already, so how? Not easy to give a simple answer because I don't know enough of your story or where you are really at. But what I can say is that when you really find Jesus, you will never be disappointed!

A struggle near to my heart. The Holy Spirit gave me two words this week. "Patient Endurance". Got me through. Reference is in Rev chapter 1-3 i think...

Life and money is a prison. The whole system is a prison. You have to work to generate money. That buys food, utilities and shelter. If you stop so does those things. So you are stuck generating money. Though work. Its a prison foe your mind.

We are all hamsters in a hamster wheel.....it's how the systems are designed. Running hard but getting nowhere.

The Amish are probably the hardest working people in the western world. You would experience real tiredness if you joined them ..

I know plenty of people that work hard that aren't Amish.

Have you considered part time work?I agree with Breno on some points - things like simplifying your life so you don' rely on money as much to meet your needs and also recharging your batteries by feeding on the Word alot :

Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.
2 Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which satisfieth not? hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.
3 Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David.
4 Behold, I have given him for a witness to the people, a leader and commander to the people.
5 Behold, thou shalt call a nation that thou knowest not, and nations that knew not thee shall run unto thee because of the Lord thy God, and for the Holy One of Israel; for he hath glorified thee.
6 Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:
7 Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.
8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.
9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
10 For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater:
11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
12 For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.
13 Instead of the thorn shall come up the fir tree, and instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle tree: and it shall be to the Lord for a name, for an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.

(Isaiah 55)

The monetary system is a form of Slavery here on earth. To have food, shelter and electricity or something that makes life easier. You have to give up your time., mind or body to pay for the self trappings of life. People think its normal because we are born into it. Their is little truth in or society and the Movie "The Matrix" A Prison for your mind, A system for your mind.

I have worked labor and desk job. I prefer to labor. Its a man's natural state to Labor.

Wow thanks for all your insights. Yeah I've worked with a few Amish and admired everyone I met, good ppl. I love work, I was approved for disability because depression and was told to apply but instead I applied for a job and am way better off. Its just when I have basically nobody in my life, things seem very mundane. Then I'll smoke cigs or drink beers which take up my health and money, I get stuck. Sometimes I find willpower, usually when I keep god and Christ fresh in my mind.
