Demographics don't support this. Most state populations are too politically diverse; and the colors typically divide along municipal (Urban/rural) borders; and not interstate borders.

Moreover, people can be persuaded- even some of the Nutty Progrssives, but even if you can't persuade them, most people are not as extreme.
