Investigators were working to piece together the details of a vehicle and shooting attack on Bourbon Street in the early hours of New Year's Day that left 10 people dead and at least 35 injured. Here's what we know so far.

What happened?
At around 3:15 a.m., a man driving a white pickup truck plowed into crowds along three blocks of Bourbon between Canal and Conti Streets as revelers were gathered in the aftermath of New Year's Eve celebrations. The suspect also shot two police officers who approached the vehicle. Both officers were in stable condition.

The truck stopped after apparently crashing into a crane while driving downriver in the 300 block of Bourbon Street, based on photos. The suspect was shot and killed by authorities. The FBI says weapons and a potential IED were in the truck, while other potential IEDs were found in the French Quarter. Bomb technicians were examining them.
What was the motive?
Much remained unclear, but clues were emerging. The man was identified by the FBI as Shamsud-Din Jabbar, 42, and he was carrying an ISIS flag on the truck's trailer hitch. He is a U.S.-born citizen from Texas and an Army veteran. The truck appears to have been rented and the FBI believes the man had accomplices.

At this stage, there is little I can add to the horrible news coming out of New Orleans. It is confirmed that 10 people are dead and 35 injured, and the number of dead may rise. The attacker has been identified as Shamsud -Din Jabbar, 42, a US citizen, US Army veteran, born and residing in Texas. The FBI has reason to believe he did not act alone. They also confirmed that an ISIS flag was found in his vehicle, and this is being handled as a terrorist act. Even though some news sources are saying that the motive is unknown, I think we can safely assume that this was an act of jihad-Islamist terrorism.

The Suspect is a US Citizen, but he did have an ISIS Flag on the back of the Truck...
It is clear that he was Radicalized ...

Not just "in" his vehicle... he was driving down the street with the thing mounted on his trailer hitch. I know "freedom of speech"; but, come on people.

I'm pretty sure that only God can sort out the mess of grief being evoked right now. The story of Jabbar is particularly irritating. I can't imagine that this attack was the result of decades careful planning and lurking in a sleeper cell- but I don't understand how you serve in the Army for our entire post-9/11 middle eastern campaign and then suddenly decide that you were on the wrong side- and the best thing you can do with your life is do a terror attack, taking out a handful of party-goers and a couple cops..... makes no sense whatsoever.

I was just watching The Last Samurai and I can honestly relate to the "Nathan Algren" character in a lot of ways. (pseudo-history; but excellent cinema). I can understand why he fought with the Samurai. But I could never understand why somebody would throw their life away for Islam. There's no honor or virtue in it at all. It's just gross. Even if you have financial problems or whatever- it's still not something worth dying for. There has to be something else. I'd bet he was a jihadi for a long time; but running unconventional warfare ops. And either they failed at whatever their real mission was; or he needed to die to cover up whatever he was doing.

You know, I wasn’t a happy camper when He was elected during my younger years of active duty as an infantry officer, and this was way before I was aware of the DS…. But I had to concede that after Clinton’s presidency that he actually didn’t break DoD….
But, again, I was oblivious to the invisible beltway battles at that time…
My first tour in the pentagon was during the Obama HRC administration when I finally woke up to their DS shenanigans..

EVERY Democrat deserves an honorable mention, with the exception of JFK, but Clinton was not even in the same league as Obama, Biden, and Carter.

Most probably because Clinton was restrained by Gingrich. He STILL contributed to the moral decay and wickedness of the Democrats, but ultimately the country was in RELATIVELY good shape during his years.

Yes, but he took the exit on the highway that led to us losing our manufacturing. He also signed the bill that effectively repealed the Glass Steagall act, paving the way for the mortgage meltdown in 2008. People are such fools, because the economy was "good" they think he was a good president, but he put everything in place for the total destruction of the US economy.

It is like the kid who sells all the trees on the land for lumber, sure the money comes rolling in while he is there, but once he is gone the land is destroyed.

Also what about George W Bush? President during 911 and the Mortgage Meltdown and signed the biggest bailout in US history of the corrupt banks. Clinton passed him the ball, he dunked it.
