SURGERY performed with the help of a robot has been billed as the next revolution in healthcare:
such procedures can be carried out through an incision the width of a finger, causing less scarring
and often allowing people to return to their homes more quickly.
The width of a finger? Or the length? An incision the width of a finger seems excessively large/wide.

Many years ago, my oldest brother's wife had gall bladder surgery, and to hear him tell it,
she was cut open from her collar bone to her pubis. Yikes. I doubt he is exaggerating much

if at all. Things have really improved since then. If robotics can do a job better and speed
up
wait times, I am sure a lot of people will be grateful, and less people will die waiting.

key hole surgery it's called at present the incision is made about the width of a finger and then that tiny hole is stretched to a big hole open space but doesn't tare,

Who is going to decide what AI can and cannot do?

Pandora's box is opened. No one on earth has the power to put the brakes on. China's manufacturing is getting crushed because robots, AI and 3d printers can do most if not all of what they do and can do it faster, cheaper, and better.

Self driving vehicles may not replace 100% of drivers, but they can easily replace 50% right now and do it faster, safer and cheaper.

Self checkout cashiers are faster, better and cheaper.

Already we are seeing tens of thousands of white collar jobs being replaced by AI. They say they are taking the "repetitive" jobs, but the truth is as AI gets trained it will replace more and more jobs. I suspect it will be a brutal year for college graduates in 2024. I suspect that 95% of them will not appear to be better than AI.

I have come to the realization that the illogical response to the pandemic was not illogical at all. The powers that be saw the impact that AI, 3d printers, robots and drones were going to have on the work force and worked frantically to reduce world population. How do you explain Americans savings dropping from over $6 trillion in 2020 to $869 billion today. Does that make any sense? Obviously they have been lying about how many have died out of the work force and they have lied about inflation. How do Americans deplete 86% of their savings in 3 years? It took 20-40 years to build that savings up and it is gone in 3 years?

In case people haven't noticed the war in Ukraine and in Gaza is being fought with a large contingent of drones and AI masterminds. Robots go into the tunnels. Zelensky recently said he was going to deploy 1 million micro drones.

This discussion about reigning in AI is about 25 years too late.
I agree

Elon says he can do better than that.
He has robots that can insert circuits into your brain. ... microsurgery. He wants them to be in malls and anywhere people are.

The "benefits of AI".

16And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: 17And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. 18Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.

Wow! Alpha Code2 performs better than 90% of competitive coders solving complex abstract problems.

Based on that I would assume there is no point in hiring coders out of college anymore. Which would you rather have, someone who scored slightly better than this but will work 40 hours a week instead of 160 and need benefits, medical and all the rest. Not only so but the Alpha Code2 is going to be improving exponentially, so your top notch coder who is slightly better this year will not be better next year.

Gemini ultra outperforms 90% of adults on massive multitask language understanding.

I think what they have proved is if you can have a narrowly defined job like computer coding, chess master, Go master, or Jeopardy that AI can already replace humans. Not only can but will, in fact this is already happening.

I suspect they can do the same with tax preparers software, medical diagnostics, and para legals. If you have 20 years experience and are established in your field you probably have nothing to worry as long as you plan on retiring in the next five years.

On the other hand if you don't have 3 years experience you will probably be forced out in the next two years. If you fall between the 3 and 20 years you probably need to be in the top 5% of your field or else you will feel the squeeze in about 3-4 years.

I suspect all Fortune 500 companies have a plan to reduce white collar staff by 50% over the next 3 years. Probably Hiring freeze, early retirement, and layoffs. I also expect in three years there will be very few individuals who will be able to out compete AI. So unless you are an owner or significant stock holder, your ability to hold your job will be tenuous at best.

Should artificial intelligence be allowed to evolve
Good luck trying to stop it from evolving!

Countries such as china russia, and other related players will absolutely continue to develop AI to the hilt.

When the anti-chrsit comes to power, this is how he will easily control the masses ability to buy and sell among other nefarious activities that can be accomplished thru AI

The cat's already out of the bag and it's not going to be controlled.

yo Stanley I agree but should it be allowed to. Like because of the amount of Jobs that could be lost.

Maybe of course you could get wages for robots, and you buy a robot to go to work for you 😊

All around the world many senior citizens are living longer.

With hospitals being stretched to there limits.

The idea is advance cyber bots could revolutionise hospital treatment.

The idea is something the national health service is looking at the idea.

The NHS have recently adapted a virtual ward since COVID.

Where by you get given an android tablet for video calls at home and a 24 hour monitor that attaches to the arm, plus a phone call once a day from a doctor,

Should the monitor detect issues tho you may get a call sooner.

With so many issues with this system there now looking into the idea of robots,

With technology moving so fast, and so fast we don't know, but so fast that this could become a reality soon.

It's also thought if such an idea is adapted the robots would be produced in there millions.

Where by such capitalism could advance the way robots are made to perform major surgery.

Is there any good reason this shouldn't be allowed
Since when has a human endeavour/invention/philosophy/political system/social system/ been 100% beneficial? Do you really want a robot making life or death decisions for you? How do you stop a medical robot from being programmed to kill you if it decides that keeping you alive is not worthwhile? You think that can't happen? Robots are programmed by fallible human beings. How do you get a second opinion from a robot with a scalpel?
