I've noticed something about mainstream singers. Particularly the newer singers. The first year of their career, they're innocent. Then the next year they're wearing an outfit you'd N-E-V-E-R wear. "What were they thinking". But you decide it's just an outfit, right? Fast forward a year or two, they are cursing in songs. Jump to today. Wow, they're different. They're doing things you know are wrong. But you still like them. Why? "They support a good charity/cause"
Sometimes I feel like the music industry treats us like frogs. If you put a frog in a tall pot of water, it won't jump out. Turn up the heat a little. It'll stay. A little more, a little more, hotter, and hotter. I'm pretty sure the frog is uncomfortable but it doesn't move. This is how you kill a frog. When the frog realizes it should leave, it's probably half-way dead.
I was acting like listening to certain singers was necessary. I was listen to multiple artists, songs I don't really even like, when reality was, some celebrities aren't people. They're the music industry. The secular music industry is a mess! They sell you an image of a female in makeup, probably unsmiling, looking like she has a lot to say. Like you should listen to her. They sell you an image of a male with muscles, unsmiling or smirking, usually tall. We go for that stuff because they build these people up to make us believe that they're so awesome without them even saying a word! I'm pretty sure that some, maybe most, singers wouldn't even be here if they'd been presented as an average person.
Long story short if you only like singers/celebrities for who they used to be, don't. They aren't as big of a deal as the music industry pumps them up to be. And you're not missing out on much. God bless.
