This is stunning drop in birth rate in China. For some reason they keep saying it based on the one child policy yet that policy was in effect in 2017, the comparison year. They talk about the high cost of childcare, really, has it changed so much from 2017 to 2021? Then they say it is due to the Covid epidemic. That seems strange, everyone was predicting a spike in births since people were staying home instead of going to work.
What is even more incredible is they admit the government has reversed the one baby policy and yet that is not being successful.
I think every reason they are putting forward are absurd, you could easily argue that either those factors should have no affect on comparison between these two years or that they might even have the opposite affect causing an increase in the birth rate.
Why don't they mention the sharp spike in miscarriages for those who are vaccinated as one possible cause?
