same reason some people go through a lot of trouble to spread obviously false conspiracy theories -- no reason at all really, just to make the illuminati feel a sense of smugness & intellectual superiority.

To be honest, and I don't claim to be an expert or "know" anything about anything to be honest. I feel there are a lot of good unexplained questions and points about the flat earth, but I really don’t “know” either way. I’ve never been to space, if it’s even possible to get there. Posthuman has been awesome to talk to in regards to this and has quite a bit of education under his belt. I would like to just say thank you again to him for being cool about it and explaining things that most others wouldn’t take the time to because they think it’s just too stupid to deal with. I just wanted to start with that to make my position a little more clear and to demonstrate I’m not in any way dogmatic about that or my answer to your question.
First of all I don’t think for 1 second that a human or group of humans have the ability or intelligence to orchestrate such a conspiracy. If there is a deception in these areas it would have to come from a supernatural source, in this case Satan. I think it’s all part of the coming huge deception myself, or at least everything fits in my opinion so far. Think about how this and many other things in the modern world fit together with the bible and other books (like Enoch, Jasher , Jubilee’s, and I’m not putting these other book in the same league as the Bible, nor even saying they’re required reading at all, it’s just very interesting (to me) how well all of these things fit). With the round earth, the space travel, and evolution all being unquestionable facts for the vast majority of people today, it paves the way for an extraterrestrial “savior” to come on the scene to “save the human race”. A deception so big it could deceive the very elect. That is what I see the motivation could be for all this stuff, and how it all works to support that particular deception. Another crazy thing is all this stuff pops up right at the turn of the 20[SUP]th[/SUP] century. We go from horse and buggy after 5,000 years to shooting a man to the moon in less than 100, and all strangely right around the same timeframe that the fallen angels are supposedly released from their chains in Tartarus according to the Book of Enoch’s timeline.
Again I am not trying to convince anyone, try to make myself sound “right”, or smart, or even remotely suggest this is what anyone else should believe. I’m not even saying I believe it 100% myself at this point. Just that it is SUPER interesting, and quite frankly fits together very well in my opinion. I do however reserve the right to be completely wrong and hope anyone that looks into it themselves finds it as fascinating as I do.

Well firstly it is not secret the earth is not a sphere, and the spherical and heliocentric models are never actually confirmed, but then they are not denied either. Thus it is no conspiracy, for a conspiracy must be secret.
As for why all the effort, there is a long list of why they would do such. I suppose that in truth they actually gain nothing since they cannot actually change reality. Though what they have with this is the ability to manipulate people's minds. The foremost reason seems to me to be to try to deny the Bible and support paganism or heresies, which is at the root of the origin of the heliocentric and spherical earth heresies.
In more modern times this stuff has its origin in the Cold War, so as to create an illusion of technological, economic, and militaristic superiority. This is where the purpose of the illusions has shifted from an outright denial of the Bible to being used as a tool of mind manipulation. Basically, it is a propaganda campaign. Even at the very start of the so-called Space Race it was known and published to be a propaganda campaign, thus it is again not secret nor is it a conspiracy.

In the post-Cold War era the reasons would be to continue to maintain the illusion of American superiority and also to continue the propaganda machine turning. It's really very simple and standard propaganda all around. What we are seeing emerge in this time is space propaganda has come full circle, with the Cold War over and the need to make up elaborate hoaxes no longer needed, the space propaganda has once more returned to its pagan roots. In our time now it is being used to prop up false religions in the West (ie: naturalism, darwinism, ufo cults, aliens, etc.)
In summary, they have been lying so long it's easier in their minds to try to maintain such absurd lies rather than to risk embarassment of admitting the Bible is right and man's science falsely so-called is wrong. Ironically of course though it is not easier at all, but they have to keep piling on even more absurd lies and false wonders to try to prop up their lie, which only makes their lies even more easy to detect. If it were to be admitted to be a lie various governments and factions would lose a significant amount of secular power and mental control of people. It doesn't matter though, like all lies, it cannot last forever.

My theory is that all the people and ships that go missing have really fallen off the edge. 'They' don't want us to know that because there is nothing they can do about it so they invent stories to cover it up like Alien abductions. JFK was assassinated because he was going to spill the beans. If you take a round the world cruise you really go round the edge. You wont know this because the Illuminati wont let you find out.
