I'm planning my first trip to the Philippines, sort of business mixed with vacation, and I have a lot of questions.

I've heard a lot about Manilla being horrid, and polluted, and even having high crime.
Is it really so bad?
I'd love to get some first hand info from people who actually live in the Philippines.

Thanks.
no that is not true..

Not that bad. It is true that it is polluted. There are also crimes. I think it is common to a place. But i asure you Manila is pleasant. There are many landmarks you can see. It is better if you have a company to guide you. Philippines is a beautiful country.. You can go anywhere here..many beautiful places that other countries do not have. Enjoy God's creation. God bless!

Well, Manila is a huge city, one of the biggest in the world, so it's bound to have it's share of problems, like any big city. I'm sure it's big enough to have lots of nice areas also.

Uh, you just described any city in Mexico, the Middle East, Russia and more. Any 3rd world country is dangerous. Anytime you step off a vacation spot compound, you take your life into your own hands. Why would Manilla be any different? So sad...

In my experience, cities in less economically developed nations are just fine unless you act like an idiot, or wander off into dangerous areas. And you can do THAT in any city, even right here in the U.S. (There are EXTREMELY dangerous places ravaged by war, or in the middle of a revolution, but those aren't the norm, and you shouldn't BE in those places.)

Very often when Americans travel, their problems are self inflicted. They'll travel without doing any research, and then they wander into dangerous areas that even most locals don't venture into.

There are certain areas is Manila that are KNOWN for having pick pockets. But hey, there also certain areas like that in Paris. All it takes is a bit of prudence. Wherever we travel we should respect the culture and do our research.

Hello kumusta na kayo? :eek:I'll be in Manila next month for at least 3 weeks, who wants to meet up? But seriously, anybody knows a cheap, good, safe place to stay somewhere in ermita or malate? I can't afford to stay in a hotel for 3 weeks hehe butas bulsa natin dyan, so I'm looking for a boarding house or maybe a dorm. Here in Davao u can find for 4k, a fully furnished bhauz with AC, ur own toilet, a stove...only u have ur own meter for electricity consumption which is ok, wala ako makita online eh, hopefully matulungan nyo ako.

Dear maxwell,

I think it depends on the place that your going. Like any other countries- Philippines has it down side. I suggest to do more research- google away! Word of advice- be more specific on the places that you would like to visit, and make sure you check on going to one places to another so that you won't get lost. google map and grab-a-taxi app is a must on your mobile. Enjoy your vacay bud!

Manila is not that bad. Only since its first time to any place, we should be wise enough to use our network of friends when we reach our destination. :)

Manila deserves the same high standard of respect as Washington, London, Paris, Oslo, Kiev and other places.

Well...Davao is my place, if you love nature you can visit Eden Nature Park and Malagos Garden.
If you love white sand beaches you can go to Samal Island, just a 45 minute ride on a ferryboat, you can go island hopping or you can visit the famous Pearl Farm Beach Resort. Most resorts have private boats to transport guests from Davao City, you can just contact them for details.

I haven't been to Cebu, and would love to know also what it has to offer, but will be flying there in a few months I already bought a ticket. Yay! :D (thanks to the promo seat sale of Cebu Pacific, it would really save you lots of money) :D I'm going to its nearby island Bohol, but I'm planning to tour the City on the last day before going back to Davao.
Haha I had the same idea of going to Cebu. I met several people pinoy/pinay both online and here in NZ and some were from Cebu and they all said you must go there.

So I think of going to Philippines for a holiday later this year and I thought of going to Cebu. Not sure when but I found a round trip online (flights only) for about 1000 USD not too bad
