Is it really a sin for women to wear pants, men to wear a dress?

Well the way I read it, its to stop people from passing themselves off as opposite sex, if you think people wanting sex changes is a modern thing, then think again, its not. Trousers or pants as you Americans call them, in UK we use the word pants for underwear, were not really worn in those days or culture anyway, Trousers are accepted as unisex today, certainly for a few quite a few centuries in Europe and Americas, it was the culture that men wore trousers and women wore skirts and dresses, therefore to make such an issue out of women wearing trousers based on Levitical law is ludicrous

IF .......... you actually BELIEVE the bible, then read DEUT chapter 22 verse 5. Again thats only IF....... you believe the Bible and in JESUS that HES not a liar. O.K.... here we go.... The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a womans garment, for all that do so are an Abomination unto the Lord thy God. Whos right, The Lord thy God ( Jesus Christ ) who cannot lie, or .........
All that really means is that a woman should not dress manly and a man should not dress girly....... sheesh :rolleyes:

Probably no one on this whole site will agree with me but, here goes... In the beginning, God created us Male and Female... Distinct separate roles. Men that try to act feminine and wear feminine clothing is against God's law as are women who try to act masculine and where men's clothes. By men's clothes I mean actually wearing clothing that was designed for men with the purpose of acting like a man. Reversing of roles is against God's law pure and simple. Churches that "force" their women to wear dresses are doing it for the sake of modesty. I find it confusing that people would assume that what is not mentioned in the New Testament is Ok to do when it is expressly forbidden in the Old. We do not have two Bibles, we have one. God does not change, if he did, we should be in serious fear for our salvation. Who knows when God might change his mind on the way in which we might be saved? Everything in the Old Covenant was a foreshadowing of the New Covenant.

Im a bit confused by why Deuteronomy is used out of context to say that women cannot wear pants or jeans or a t shirt and essentially the same clothes men wear. I mean really? Would God send a woman to hell for that? Are not we the ones who decides whats a female or male garment anyways? What about men who wear what would be considered a dress? Are they going to hell for wearing these clothes? Someone help me make sense of this please.
Yes , it is an abomination for a man wear the garment of a woman or a woman to wear the garment of a man.
I think that pants are man garments.If your heart is right, then you'll wear the garment that God told you to wear to please Him.

The only thing I have a problem with is women who wear slogans across their breasts and buttucks, and wearing clothing that is too revealing. Why, Yes, I'm prone to look.

Even in our society women's pants are different from men's. Then you have kilts. haha I'm going to guess here and say that the point is for us not to wear clothes that would be construed as blending the genders and making men seem effeminate/homosexual and vice versa for women. You go on a secular dating site and you're bound to see some gender-bending, so much so that it's sometimes difficult to tell who's male and who's female. But eventually you can differentiate the two. I just think that if heterosexual, sexually moral relationships are to be upheld this certainly reinforces them and there becomes much less confusion.

Again, just a guess.

Every thing outside you is unimportant.

Sure I think tattoos or piercings (including for earrings) are a bit pagan
But do I think a person

My church is wierd about clothes even if they are male clothes worn by men - when it comes to church time each week.
My church has no central authority so individual meetings do things their own way to a large extent.
Some would frown on a man turning up in jeans and a t-shirt as they expect a suit and tie.
I was advised to try one that was not like that and in the same 'church' I gave readings and even Bible classes wearing just that.

You ask a man today to wear what Abraham or Jacob or even Solomon wore and he would consider it closer to female dress.
Clothing is 'off the age' and like much that Paul said it was for the people he wrote to in that age.
Paul did not know about Scottish men or the vanity of women with varicose veins that they wish to cover up.
The difference between women's attire in Biblical times was not the same as it is now.

tbh this is ridiculous and was WELL ridiculed in The Life of Brian at the stoning of the blasphemer where all the women pretend to be men.

Stick to this nonsense and you bring ridicule upon yourself and, sadly, the church of God as a whole.

well men wore dresses back then, or what would amount to a dress today. So its not talking about clothing . Its a figure of speech , and I don't think I'm mistaken.

It is talking about a women, should not take the place of a man, and a man should not talk the place of a women, in a sexual act.

Deuteronomy 22:5

King James Version (KJV)

5 The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the Lord thy God.


Don't take my word for it, study it, maybe you'll come to the same conclusion after looking into it farther .

Do you think Jesus wore trousers? Or a long cloth like a skirt? ...

Did the Roman Soldiers and others wear trousers? Or little skirts?

I wouldn't be caught dead in that stuff. Never have. Never will.
I prefer to wear things that aren't clingy or draw attention to certain parts of my body. My shirts usually hang below the buttocks, and my tops are loose enough you cannot see the outline of the upper part of my body. Not in a slouchy way. Just modest.

Actually, when you look at the current dress fashions it is probably more modest for a woman to wear pants than some of the dresses these days.
Im 5'11, and I have a very hard time just trying to find a dress that goes to my knees.

So its still cool if i wear my pink polo right? I mean it's in the wash so I'm wearing my purple one..but colors are just colors

That would not be a norm in society/culture of whatever group.. But its not what is being addressed with the figure there.

I've never really felt the urge to wear a dress.

Am I doing something wrong?

I guess so. They make jeans for women and I wear them. Will I be struck by lighting?

No, I just the biblical intent was that men should dress as men and woman dress as woman and not for one gender to pass themselves off as another. Usually you can tell a woman is a woman even if they wear jeans. I just hope your jeans are as if they were painted on exposing every nook and cranny of your feminine curves, because some guys really struggle with this.

I for one wear pants most of the time, only wear a dress or skirt on a special occasion. Granted I've always been considered a tomboy, trust me I've been told by people I should dress more girly. Even as a little girl I loved to wear pants, shorts but only wore a dress on a special occasion such as Resurrection Sunday etc. Besides during the winter pants are a lot more comfortable then hose or tights, like I said before I'm a tomboy to the point of where I don't even wear makeup except for lip gloss, eye shadow.
