there is some truth to when employeers have a minimum wage increase they cut hours and or believe it or not hire more people (instead of getting rid of employees which happens as well)to get the work done faster in some cases depending on work.(my example janitorial work)

say a person works 8 hours in their day at a 1.75 increase thats $14 dollars more than they would of had which means if the company cut 1 hour back and worked them 7 leaving $6.75 cents(for another cut back hour)
it's like not having an increase in wage if they cut more than 2.

how does the increase in wage hurt the company?this isnt a bad point

I remember here when Min wage was 4.25 you could rent a pretty nice house here for around 250-300 a month. when min wage was raised to 5.15 the same house then rented for 500'ish. Now with it at 7.25 the same nice house in a nice area can set you back 800 or more a month. And nice areas are getting to be less and less which is also driving up the rent cost. A jump to 9 a hour will bring the rent price to at least 1k a month.

Just the jump from 7.25 to 9 can turn you from paycheck to paycheck living to. opps guess what you ether pay for rent and go without food or be fed and live on the streets. or forced to move to a bad area and well have fun with the drug dealers, crackheads stealing your stuff, and maybe getting killed for 50 cents.

From today's LA Times:

Corporate profits have climbed from $14,594 in 2004 to $19,496 in 2012. Worker quotas are up 50%. Temporary positions have increased from 17% in '09 to 25% in '12. Employee benefits and perks such as retirement funding, professional developement, and company picnics have dropped by 8% between '08 and '12.

Meanwhile, The average worker hasn't had an effective raise in 30 years. In 2011, 93% of all new wealth went to the top 1%. Imagine odering a pizza with 9 of your friends, and the first guy up takes 9 slices. You'd pummel him. But if he's a CEO taking the fruit of your labor, well by god that's his right! Corporations are sitting on mountains of cash refusing to share it with anyone, be it humanity or government. It's not envy or class warfare. It's the economic strangulation of a very sick world that's one foot in the grave and the other one givin' out. As Rick implied, it's just another plot line of the enemy to bring humanity to his biggest crises ever.

Of the enemy...

Is it a sin to know the plan of the enemy and to not act to thwart it? Is it sin to support his plan? Is it sin to think that this kind of thing and this kind of world are appropriate under the rule of your god? Who do you applaud when you applaud these things?

The time has come to think critically about where we stand and what we support. When we consider such things, we should consider the puppeteer behind them above all.

Is it a sin to steal?

Is it a sin to covet?

Socialist governments traditionally do make a financial mess. They always run out of other people's money. It's quite a characteristic of them. - Margaret Thatcher

Why should I be envious of their wickedness? Why should I steal it from them? The Pharisees wouldn't even accept blood money, why should we?

It is not something to take envy of, it is something to take warning from.

I for one would love to see minimum wage raised to anything more at this point. The prices of everything keeps going up but a persons pay check. I don't know how they expect anyone to live or survive. A cost of living raise has been due for a long time.

I agree with some here that sadly if the minimum wage goes up, then landlords will raise their rent even more. Which most in my area are 600 or more with nothing included and are pretty much dumps. When the gas people came in, the landlords evicted a lot of people just so they could raise the rent to 1,000 or more a month and rent to those on the gas line. All it is, is greed.

Right now, I would just be happy with a job. The past year has been rough for me and this year has been the worst with being unemployed. I have a bad back, so I am limited on what job I can get, and I have no insurance, so I cannot go to doctors and try for any kind of disability coverage. I have been unemployed long enough now where I cannot collect benefits and I am 2 1/2 months behind in my rent. I am even trying to babysit at home in order to earn more money than I would if I worked for someone else, and the door keeps closing on that as well. It won't be long before I find myself out on the street.

I wish something could be done in America to help the people instead of stripping us of everything and leaving us with nothing. I feel bad for the elderly, I don't know how they live on what they get. Again the choice is between their medications, or food.

Something has got to be done! I am seriously thinking about leaving this country. We the people are the ones that are suppose to be in charge of our government leaders, and if we don't like the job their doing, we should be able to fire any one of them and replace them with someone else. But now it is them ruling us and stealing our hard earned money that some of us work hard for and have to put up with a lot, just to get the little that we do earn. I could right a book on my Day Care experiences and things that I have been through and have seen.

Praying for this nation, praying for this economy, and praying for it's people.

You complain about the cost of everything going up. you do realize some of that cost is due to the min wage going up from 5.15 to 7.25. But sure lets up it to 20 a hour. and we can all watch people complain when gas is 20 a gallon. and milk costs 10 a gallon. rent is 5k a month.

Sorry to disagree with you on this, I am sure that is some of it...but the cost of food keeps going up because the cost of gas is going up, and the cost of gas going up has nothing to do with minimum wage.

Minimum wage hasn't changed in how many years, so if what you say is 100% correct, then why is cost of everything still going up?

Is a person not suppose to be concerned or want better for themselves and their families, are we just suppose to curl up in a ball and allow whatever to happen in life and let others dictate how we should live?

You may call it complaining, I am calling it concerned and discussing it. Regardless of whether minimum wage goes up or not, the price and cost of living will continue to rise whether we like it or not.

So we can happily agree to disagree.

God bless :)

I agree, I get 30 or more hours a week now and if the minimum wage increased I'd get a lot less work. I can understand needing a higher wage in some places since it cost so much more to live there, but in Oklahoma you can buy a decent house on $9 an hour 30 or more hours a week.

Really?!?!? I was earning $10.50/hour and had trouble making it through the month. The rent for my very small apartment is $605 and yes I have other bills I'm trying to pay off due to some stupid decisions of days gone by. But if a house can be bought on $9/hr salary I also wonder if that is considered really good pay in OK or can everyone afford a house there? Sounds great.

Per todays LA Times / Barbara Garson / The Financial times

Between 1971 and 2007 US hourly wages rose 4%, adjusted for inflation. That's 4% over 36 years. During that same time period productivity increased 99%, and the average worker's productivity rose 25% faster than their pay. Corporate profits were up 25 - 30%, while wages as a share of national income fell to 58%, the lowest point ever since recording began after WWII. If wages were at their post war average of 63%, it would pump an additional $740 billion into the economy, or about $5,000 per worker.

Before the great recession the average age of a McDonald's worker was 18. Now it is 29.
