Okay so i don't know much about it, i heard it's a gift that anyone can receive if they ask for it. Which would be great because for some reason i feel i need to start speaking in tongues in my prayers and my praises. It seems to me to be a powerful weapon of sort, Every testimony i hear of it they talk about how it somehow empowered them. So what exactly does one do to receive this gift? And what exactly does it do?I guess to me it seems to be a booster drink of sorts, like it not just empowers us but greatly pleases the lord as well.
Mark 15:34And at three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?”(which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”).

Matthew 27:47
When some of those standing there heard this, they said, “He’s calling Elijah.”

Matthew 27:49
The rest said, “Now leave him alone. Let’s see if Elijah comes to save him.”

Luke 2:47
Everyone who heard him was amazed at his understanding and his answers.

The Jews didn't know how to speak Hebrew ( but very little ), they only had spoken Greek. Since Jesus was the king of the Jews, He had to know how to speak the language that Abraham had spoken during the agreement. Jesus was able to read the ancient texts also; His bloodline were only from Abraham, and for Him being the son of a carpenter (handyman), it would be impossible for Him to be able to keep the old traditions and ways. only the scribes and pharisees had knew a few words of hebrew.

Acts 2:4
All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.

The people had the ability to speaks in all languages of the world and they were able to speak all the languges of the future also; and which that signifies that God welcome all those whom hunger and thirst for righteousness; it just not only for the Jews, but all.

Romans 1:14
I am obligated both to Greeks and non-Greeks, both to the wise and the foolish.

Speaking in tongues is the Holy Spirit talking with your mouth which happens when you are baptised in Him. You become the Holy Spirit's vessel for communication. The benefits of this are as vast as the holy words the Spirit can speak in your behalf.
how do you know, or how does anyone else know what is being said?
you don't.

so how do you know the Holy Spirit is involved?

so how do you know the Holy Spirit is involved?
Luke 11v9-13 with Matt 7v11 states; "So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. If a son asks for bread from any father among you, will he give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent instead of a fish? Or if he asks for an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!"...If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!

I asked my Heavenly Father for the Baptism in the Holy Spirit (and the evidence that I had received it was that I started speaking with other tongues (ie exercising the gift of Tongues, Acts 2v4, Mark 16v17, 1Cor 12v7-11) as the Holy Spirit gave me utterance), and the Baptism in the Holy Spirit is exactly what I got. My Heavenly Father only gives good gifts to me (and the rest of His children who ask for them), is it not the case zone, that you simply cannot believe your Heavenly Father to give you the Baptism in the Holy Spirit, but you simply despise and treat with contempt God's lovely and good gifts? Acts 2v38,39.

i don't despise His gifts at all.
i despise the Charismatic Movement (and it's antecedents).

did you miraculously speak a known human language you didn't learn and it was a testimony to an unbelieving jew?

if not....you got something else going on.

they are one of the gifts the Holy Spirit gives us when we are baptized with him. Yeshua called him our comforter.

You're the one in unbelief, the simple truth is that you cannot trust your Heavenly Father to give you His Promise, the Baptism in the Holy Spirit! Luke 24v29, Acts 1v5,8...however, my experience is firmly based on Scripture! Acts 2v4... :p

Why don't you stop cherry picking Scriptures in a fruitless attempt to rubbish the wonderful experience of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit and simply believe His word to receive it!

Praying in the Spirit, new languages, speaking to God, language of angels...

Just because God did a miracle that allowed everyone to hear their own language, and not some hodge podge of 120 different languages all being spoken at the same time, doesn't mean tongues, praying in the spirit etc are for humans only.

No the Bible says do not forbid it, Paul said he did it more than anyone and how dare you tell other people they are not following God, when you yourself haven't experienced it.

I say to the poster, ask and you will receive, and on receiving build yourself up in the most holy faith not speaking to men, but God, but in all things let love which is the perfect guide your gifts.

Has anyone read any scripture on what speaking in tongues is?

Every mention of it means a persons ''tounge'' of their country.

Not some Angelic language or heavenly language?

I mean truly, what language does God speak?

I would say he knows all ''tongues'' equally.

The miracle of speaking in tongues is explained so evidently it shows howmuch religion plays in this or any other discussion about it.

It will be this way until people study the scriptures and accept what it says instead of their reigious beliefs defining what it isn't.

AND why do you WANT to speak in tongues?

Why ask for this gift?

What purpose would it serve?

Overcoming Hindrances to Speaking in Tongues
PropheticNOW

Published on Mar 12, 2012
Speaking in Tongues brings an open heaven above you and breaks up the fountains of the deep under your feet. Speaking in tongues causes you to speak the languages that the second heaven is configured to respond and produce for. If you have sought the gift of tongues or the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and had problems, this teaching will solve all your difficulties.

juts need to go 1:50 into it....

is this the tongues other people mean?

Anita Speaking & Praying in Tongues by the Holy Spirit

Uploaded on Dec 9, 2010
The baptism of the Holy Spirit is an extraordinary gift given to us from the Father through His Son Jesus Christ. The evidence of being fully submerged, baptized in fire is the evidence of this gift called tongues. It is a heavenly language given to us by the Holy Spirit in our born again spirit and is available to all who ask. There is a "gift" of tongues as being one of the 9 gifts of the Holy Spirit that can be interpreted with the gift of interpretation as also one of the 9 gifts of the Spirit. Then there is a heavenly language/tongue that is given upon Baptism in Fire that you don't understand...it is the spirit praying through you. This is what this video describes. Be blessed.

.....

is this the gift of tongues people are saying is the Biblical gift?

anyone?

is this real? - HOW DO YOU KNOW?

speaking in tongues is real , it is not gibberish, it is a gift for the ones who believe and ask for it. You ask and you receive it with faith. Do not judge anything if you are not sure of what you speak. If God is please with it then He is please with it and if He is not then He will deal with the people who actually receive this beautiful gift. Sometimes one judge something just because one has not experience anything does not mean that it does not exist. One cannot say an orange is sweet or sour until one have had the privilege of trying it.

God bless! :)

could you look at the last video posted and tell me if that is speaking in tongues?
if it is the same thing you practice; are you able to know if the woman in the video is practicing the same gift as you - or could she be simply making odd noises?

my question is: how do you know?

- the languages in scripture are known human languages.
spoken by the jews who were gathered from the nations in which they lived (they spoke the local languages) at Jerusalem....on Pentecost.

that only leaves this "angelic language" option.

is the woman in the video speaking mysteries to God in angelic language?

how do you know?

tongues with interpretation

Uploaded on Jul 18, 2011

.....

okay....so the fellow speaks about africa for 1:57, then starts to cry.

someone stands up and speaks in tongues for a long time.

then a minute of quiet.

then someone else stands up, and apparently interprets what was said in tongues.

the interpreter speaks in First Person verbatim as God ("I have come to you, etc" < God speaking)

my question: is this genuine?

second question: how can anyone know?

is anyone in this movement; who says they practice this, willing to say for certain the activity in this video is of God?

thanks for addressing these videos anyone.

Jesus is a greek name for which means savior, and Yeshua is a hebrew name which means savior, and Joshua is how german's translation way of pronouncing Yeshua; and which Martin Luther was german, and he was the one whom first translated the scriptures from it original state. All the Jews in the new testament era had greek names which proves that the jews common language was greek because they were in captivity under Rome. Jesus had given Simon a nick name which was Peter which means some affliated with rock which is a Aramaic word. So the Hebrews which means Nomad or wanderers and or Habiru (egyptian name); which means the common language that they had spoken in the time of Abraham was Aramaic. Jesus knew how to speak Aramaic and that is why he had to translated at times for the Jews for they didn't understand Aramaic. But there's a tongue which the spirits speaks but the way they communicated is by feelings, and which it is an inner feeling which it is how they way they communicates; it's like having the six sense.

This is to inform you and any who are in agreement with your quote, either Paul is quite mad or there is such tongues as the languages of man and of angels. The following is but one reference to the utterances of them:

1Co 13:1
Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.

1Co 13:2
And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.

We stand together, cleansed by the Blood of Yeshua. We either believe Him or we do not. If not, it is moot attending this forum, and your contributions are worthless to the faithful. Read the Word, believe the Word and worship Yahweh in His Only Begotten Son, amen.

At the end of the day, you are the one who loses out by having such an unbeliving attitude (I feel sorry for you), just because you see some bad examples of the use of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit and the gift of tongues, you automatically throw out the experience (basically, you throw out the baby with the bath water), however, as I have clearly shown Our Heavenly Father's Promise is available to every believer, right through the whole of age of grace, right up until the Second Coming of Christ...Luke 24v49, Acts 2v4,16-21,38,39

Yahweh Shalom...
