That would make sense to me if they were speaking in an actual language they didn't study but needed to spread the gospel. That to me lines up biblically. I read a study by University of Penn that claimed that the frontal lobe (the vocal center of the brain) was not active when a person spoke in tongues. However I did some research and saw the MRI scan which were identical the first was the person praying in English and the next was them speaking in tongues. I did more research the authors of the study are devoted Christians who have both been on record as saying speaking in tongues is a great gift. We're they really going to disprove their own belief? So much for objective...
That is quite interesting if we are willing to step beyond the scriptures for our edification and so expose ourselves to greater chance to be misled.

2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

You can only be misled if you do step away from scripture and do not compare evrything to it.

The question then becomes....what do you believe or accept in scripture?

Are you washed in His Blood? Do you confess with your lips and your life that Jesus Christ is Lord? Can you? I do, amen.

It is, to the best of my knowlege, my life's devotion to live Yeshua, Jesus, to the best of my ability. What you say is an accusation that my love is not adequate. Thank you for your opinion, now I still confess the Blood of the Lamb as my salvation. Jesus Christ is my Lord, and my knees bow regulary when I actually pray this.

I do not doubt that. I am only telling you that our devotion must include growing in understanding, and that especially of love as God taught through Paul, else we think we are zealous by emotion, and in the end will be found incomplete and naked.

The Bible.

It is shear ignorance to compare brain scans to it. Such are only speculations made of man.

No I am simply asking. If the Holy Spirit gives us utterance..and MANY MANY people people and religions claim to have this utterance...then HOW do we know the truth of what they speak? And since MANY MANY people and religions claim to know the truth of scripture HOW then do we KNOW they are correct or not?

I am not being condescending but asking in discussion.

And that is another butchery. The fact is that under the Old Law anyone who so misrepresented the word of God was to be put to death as a false prophet.

That yet remains true but we do so in a spiritual way by putting them out from among us.[/QUOT

We are not under the Old Law, now we all hear God.

If you truly accept 2 Timothy 3:16 then what is it that we can say or do differently than any other religious belief?

I bleive the TRUTH excludes ALL other beliefs and opinions.

And if the truth EXCLUDES all other things..then whatever is TRUE must be the answer.

If CHRIST is the way the TRUTH and the life...then must we seek HIM and HIS Word and not the religious aspects of it?

It is not your concern. The Spirit is talking to God not you, question your own intentions not others. The Spirit Himself teaches us.

it doesn't matter how nicely you ask, you'll just be shut down (with the exception of Ken, who answers all questions).

Yes zone..AMEN. As when any discussion when religious beliefs are involved. To question someones beliefs as opposed to what scripture says about it )whether you believe them or not) always ends up with this response.

This is why we must be STAUNCH supoorters of 2 Timothey 3:16 and 17. OR else we will be tossed around by every wind of doctrine..

In the end the religious response is....''I am not God, We do not understand everything about Him so why question it?''

I believe we are called to be Bereans. If not then we are just adrift in the sea of religious beliefs and opinions...rather than being on a boat that is sailing somewhere.

The Holy Spirit is that wind and the boat is our Christian walk. I will be LED by the Holy Spirit and I will STUDY and ask and seek the truth JUST as Jesus said.

Religion is either the beginning point or the ending point of your WALK with Christ.

it's really simple.
the gifts ceased, just as Paul said they would.

that's how you know the true from fake.

somebody says they are a prophet, you know they ain't.
somebody says they are an Apostle, well..ditto.
raising from the dead - where's the proof?
tongues...well....you get the idea.

all shallow, ineffective things that have ZERO to do with the GLORY of Pentecost.

I think it's about free will, like everything else - what you want to accept and what you don't but I don't think it affects your salvation as long as your heart is in the right place. True believers will only be united in the Millennial Kingdom of Christ. Only He can settle these disputes.

I guess I would have to ask where in scripture does it say they would cease and when exaclty is that supposed to be according to Paul.

As far as someone claiming to be a prophet...someone who delivers the message of the scriptures to someone is a prophet. Again people using religion and opinions without study to claim such things.

The Holy Spirit should guide our understanding of what we hear as well.

John 16:13

"Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come."

That was a pretty easy answer but I suggest you ask Keniseyes point of view anytime you have a question you can't find an answer to, he's probably the wisest one around.

You were dead before you came to Christ, so what do you suppose you would be if Christ turned you away for refusal to listen to him though claiming to do so?

Matthew 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

The Spirit of Truth is CHRIST and He is the WORD.

This is about LISTENING.

Not interpreting or deciding.

It is about following.

And it is that Spirit delivering the MESSAGE of God.

And we have that message of truth already.
