Balut I will never touch. Jeepneys are neat rides and very price friendly. ;)

LOL. maxwel , if ever you will visit here in the philippines and a filipino would offer you to eat balut you should [ok?]...

cause it's an insult to refuse and offer and filipinos are a little bit sensitive when turned down...ahahahhah

Ah, good, Gideon :)! I was afraid that my attempt to trick- er, I mean to convince Maxwel to eat balut was derailed when DLiz showed him a picture of it. But if it would be culturally insensitive to refuse..., well, I suppose I'll just have to make sure that he is offered a nice, half-incubated duck egg while he's there in the Philippines :).

I was hanging out at my classmate's house and her mom offered me to stay a bit and have dinner with them. Of course, i happily agreed because it's an insult to refuse. When me and her whole family was in the dining table already, the only viand was Kinilaw na isda(raw fish soaked with vinegar) and pork chop. She offered a lot unfortunately I don't eat anything that is raw. I was forced to eat it even though I don't want to because they might get insulted and say I'm too choosy. Hahaha. o_O

Gideon,
You seem like such a nice guy, but I'm starting to think maybe you work for a balut factory.
Maybe you're in charge of their marketing, lol.
:)

Jilly,
I would in fact never do anything I believed was culturally insensitive in another country.
It would not be the first time this was used against me.
Once in Africa I had to eat something they told me was, "monkey parts."
I took a deep breath, thanked them for the monkey parts, and gulped it down.
They instantly burst into laughter...
apparently it was just a joke, lol.
:)

Dliz,
It's always bad when you're offered something frightening, and the host has made a LOT.
ROFL.

Balut for me...won't happen. Better try instead pinoy curry chicken or lechon manok or chicken inasal (with sinigang soup).

I think it's pretty easy to make balut, Gideon. It's like cooking a boiled egg, i think. HAHAHA. am i correct? Gideon, please don't treat me any balut because I wont eat it not unless it's boiled egg. Gideon, I'm fine with chicharon and taho. I'll be waiting for your libre. hihi :p

the process of cooking hard boiled egg is the same as balot, actually there are two kinds of balot:

balot pinoy, which is still of duck but there's no 'duckling' just a mere yellow and white yolk..
balot, which already has an undeveloped 'duckling'....

yeah sure, some time in the near future i'll treat you [if ever we'll meet].

Oh, see, they were laughing because you assumed that they had really fed you a monkey delicacy, when they had actually tricked you into eating meerkat :).

Yes, teammates to get folks to try balut, Gideon; good phrasing :D! And Maxwell, you must try it because we have your best interests at heart, like Gideon said! Or at least our own interests of watching Americans eat bird embryos! Do it for the team; Gideon is even willing to buy the expensive treat for you :D!

Maybe this is just a rumor, but I've heard that street vendors mostly sell balut at night...
when the people eating it don't have to actually see it.

True. My cousin offered to treat me some balut and at that time I though balut was just like any ordinary boiled egg. I almost accidentally ate balut but when I opened saw that it was balut, I immediately gave it back to my cousin and requested for a boiled egg this time. LOL. demanding much?
