Ancestral or generational curses are real godly curses (meaning God placed them on a family) that can have an effect on some people due to a unresolved sin issue of an ancestor
GOD does not PUT curses on anyone. The devil does. GOD gives us the authority to BREAK OFF the curses.
While going thru deliverance I was encouraged to study non-christian religious practices of my ancestors. I didn't spend a great deal of time on my research and made a list and prayed over each item asking God to forgive my ancestors for these specific sins and to remove any godly curses.
Scripture tells us it is futile to pray for the deceased as their choice has been made while living. We are to Confess the sins of our ancestors, but we repent only for our own sins. God simply wants us to acknowledge the sins of our ancestor as did Daniel in Chapter 9 or 10.
Here is an article about Generational curses:
Generational Curses
God gave me a vision of an older man crushing the head of a wheat in his hands. He stared at the kernels of wheat intently. Then I saw him hang a dead goat in a tree. In my recent research I discovered how people in the area of europe where my family is from, would hang a sacrificed animal in a sacred grove for favor of the deities. I knew at once what to do. I prayed that his sin would be forgiven and any curse on my family line would be removed from it.

My ancestor directly went against God by serving a pagan god. This is one sure way to not please God. It is a violation of Deut. 28:15-68[/QUOTE
Yes, it is and he will pay the consequences for his adultery. There is absolutely nothing you can do about it. However, that is not do say that he did not repent before he die and you simply don't know about it.
