Hi Mzungu, yes, the sabbath day is a saturday.

Please keep in mind that if we serve the old law, we cannot break one commandment. If we do, we will be judged by the Law. This is a different judgement. A harsh one. ..... We are under grace now. The old law was for the Israelites only. We keep everyday holy now. Jesus freed us from the law when he died at the cross. I hope this helps.

Romans 7:6 But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.
True. I feel God has shown me this concerning His sabbath:

Its something precious to Him - it must be because of the seven days of creation He set a day in place of rest. So there is obviously something massive in that.

The sabbath was introduced to Israel, and so were laws - through Moses - and we can learn more about this concept of sabbath from the law, because it is expressed in more detail(in relation to Israel), and in relation to other things in a way that we can see it defined, and it begins to take shape. But the sabbath preceeds the law of Moses, and it speaks of the very essence and nature of God.

Then God speaks of a rest, or sabbath in Christ(it points to Christ). He died for us, so we live for Him. We cease from our own works, and live a life of faith in God, we die to our own desires and live in a way that His desires are realised through us.

So then there still remains a rest... as Paul explains. and I believe that this is explaining a time that is still yet to come, but dawns apon us, where we really start to enter into that rest, here on earth, and see His effort begin to manifest, where we are dead to self, and His life really starts to break forth.

And this will culminate in the restoration of all things, and all things being subjected to Him. And the end will come, and we will truly enter in to that rest, in a way that we cannot comprehend.

But yes, Saturday was the sabbath day, defined through Israel, and im sure it would coincide with full earth days since that first day of rest - day 7, because God is a God of order, and patterns. That day was altered (officially) by the Catholic church, to Sunday, for whatever reason... but in recent review of what I believe and why, i have decided to step away from the worship of God or "day to get together and unite as a body to glorify God" on Sunday, and revert to the Saturday, because I dont believe that the Catholic church has acted in honesty or in proper judgement and i cant see the justification for a change from saturday to sunday, in fact i see it as quite pompous.. I believe the rest of God is in Christ and is fullfilled in Him, and so specific days are not important, but I choose to make a stand in this to make a point. No one will rule me but Jesus Christ. And he lives, and interacts with His Church.

So at present, I choose Saturday - the correct day, and the ordained day, and refuse mans way. Because men desire earthly things, and seek glory and power. I seek God's glory, and God's power, in my life, and He deserves all honour. And i look forward to His rest fully being realised.

I think it is funny how some people change words around and change a few things in history to there own beliefe in order to feel ok with breaking a commandment. Gods commandments are direct. I know it is difficult to follow each commandment God has set out for us, but i strongly believe he is worth the time and the try. The sabbath is the sabbath, adultry is adultry, murder is murder, jealousy is jealousy, nothing has changed. God knew the future of the world and set his commandments for those days and for the days to come. Gods law has not changed.

[/QUOTE]If one chooses to keep the sabbath day holy go ahead, your choice. But remember, dont break it to suit yourself. You cant work on the sabbath or do anything for that fact. You also cannot make anyone work for you. This was an abomination. Just keep in the mind the electricity company, the Water Corp, and the telephone companies that bring a service to you. Dont use them.

If it were depending on our salvation, Jesus would of instructed us to honour the sabbath, but instead he told us that we were free from the law. Is man trying to be more holy than Jesus? We were warned again in the new testament to stay away from adultery, murder, envy, etc, even BLOOD. But never once did Jesus command us to honour the sabbath? If I have missed it, could you show me please? Thank you.

It is definetely a commandment to honor the sabbath. And yes, if you want to work words around it to get away from it, then yes that is your choice. I, honestly do not honor the sabbath, but even with that, i know the commandments God left for me and i know that the sabbath should be kept holy.

Yes, which no one really is(dead to self)... but there is a rest, that we are to enter into, and thats what the sabbath is all about - it points to that rest(describes, illustrates, illuminates, gives meaning to), where we cease from our own works, and enter into His. His yoke is easy and His burdun is light. We should daily die, to our own desires, and lusts, and learn to enter into His, but it is a process, and thank God! for His grace, that allows us to taste the powers of the age to come, and then go through trial and tests of the flesh, where He purges us and teaches us to live a holy life. We will enter in - as a church - but just like israel, there is a process, there is a wilderness, there is a crossing over, and a defeating of the enemies in the land, but the promise remains, of a rest, and we WILL enter in. But there are also times and seasons in God, and His prophetic timetable - which is fulfilled at His discretion ;) We are in some exciting times!!!
Amen! and yes, and the times are just about to get more exciting-er! (hahah i know thats not a word...but it is now)

Mark 2: 27 Jesus said to them, "The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath. 28 "So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath."

Jesus makes it clear that He has the power to change the Law, or abolish the Law, in totality or in part, after the Law has been fulfilled.

Matthew 5: 17 "Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets ; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill.18 "For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished.

He also makes it clear that the fulfillment of the Law has not occurred yet. That is why He followed the Sabbath during His lifetime, though not as the Pharisees required. He also states that His purpose is to fulfill the Law. The Law was fulfilled at the cross. Fulfilled means that it is no longer in effect.

Romans 10: 4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.

Paul here affirms that Christ has fulfilled the Law, therefore it is accomplished, meeting the requirements set forth in Matthew 5: 18. Just as if you fulfill the requirements of a debt, by paying it off, the debt is no longer a debt, but is accomplished. It is the same with the Law.

Galatians 3: 13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us-for it is written, "CURSED IS EVERYONE WHO HANGS ON A TREE "- 14 in order that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we would receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

We are longer under the Law. Christ has set us free! Thank God!

Galatians 5: 1 It was for freedom that Christ set us free ; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery. 2 Behold I, Paul, say to you that if you receive circumcision, Christ will be of no benefit to you. 3 And I testify again to every man who receives circumcision, that he is under obligation to keep the whole Law. 4 You have been severed from Christ, you who are seeking to be justified by law ; you have fallen from grace.

It has been made abundantly clear throughout the O.T. that if you fail in one part of the Law, you fail in all things. Therefore, if you insist on obeying the Sabbath Laws, which were meant only for the nation of Israel in the first place, as was circumcision, then you must obey ALL of the Law. Good luck with that.
great answer SuperDave.

setting aside any (or all) day to meditate on the Word, to rest, to pray, to assemble is great! but to do it on Saturday (and call it the Biblical Sabbath of the Decalogue) and to do it believing one is pleasing God by Keeping The Law is a very dangerous thing indeed.

especially important to consider, if one is a gentile, since those Laws were never given to you anyways:)

which means a gentile derives no special blessing from God by attempting to please Him by keeping a Biblical Sabbath (in fact, the Law is called the ministry of DEATH).

so even though the Law was Fulfilled COMPLETELY in the Person and Work of Jesus Christ (who gives us rest and peace, not like the world gives), and Who is the object of our devotion and worship, even a jew who claims Jesus yet is trying to live by Moses should read what is actually involved in the SHADOW sabbath:

The Law Of The Sabbath

EXO 16:29 See, for that the LORD hath given you the sabbath,

(1) therefore he giveth you on the sixth day the bread of two days;

(2) abide ye every man in his place,

(3) let no man go out of his place on the seventh day.

EXO 20:8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

EXO 20:9

(4) Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:

EXO 35:2 Six days shall work be done, but on the seventh day there shall be to you an holy day, a sabbath of rest to the LORD: whosoever doeth work therein shall be put to death.

EXO 35:3

(5) Ye shall kindle no fire throughout your habitations upon the sabbath day.

(1) All food eaten on the Sabbath must be prepared the day before.
(2) Everyone must abide or stay in their houses.
(3) No one can go out of their house on the Sabbath day.
(4) No work of any type or kind on the Sabbath day.
(5) No fires in the house or out of the house to be burning on the Sabbath day.
(6) All who break the Sabbath must be put to death.

To observe the Sabbath as a day and not the whole Law of the Sabbath, is breaking the Sabbath. If the Law of the Sabbath is still in full force and effect today, then all six of the above elements MUST BE OBSERVED, not just setting aside the day. If the penalty of death is not enforced in the breaking of the Sabbath then the Law of the Sabbath is broken by allowing a person to break the Sabbath Law.

Those who claim they keep the Sabbath Law are proven to not only not keep it, they break it by not enforcing the death penalty.

Some claim they would stone others to death in their groups if the present laws of society permitted them to do it. But since they are forbidden by government law to kill those who break the sabbath they honor man's law above God's law. These are the same who say they will willing die for the sabbath law. Is that not a falsehood, since if stoning a person who breaks the sabbath is KEEPING THE SABBATH LAW, they would be willing to be put to death for killing a person who broke the sabbath. And if they are not, then the claim of dying for the sabbath is simply a falsehood.

You get no second chance to keep the sabbath law. There is no pardon under the law. If you break the sabbath you deserve instant death. There is no reprieve. You cannot hire a lawyer. The man caught picking up sticks to build a fire had broken two parts of the sabbath law. 1.) He went out of his house; and 2.) he worked to gather sticks. All Israel stoned him to death (Numbers 15:32-36).

You are guilty of breaking the sabbath. You cannot get a pardon under the law. You deserve to die. Who will kill you and dispatch you on to an eternal hell lost? He that is without sin can cast the first stone! Now we come to the great and notable Lord Jesus Messiah. He who took our place on Calvary and died in out place. He took upon himself all of our sins and the punishment of them. He took the death penalty of those who broke the sabbath and those guilty of all other sins under the law. To the Gentiles without the law, he died for our ungodliness and our abominations that although identified in the law, were not identified by law for the obedience of the Gentiles. He took upon him our damnation and our judgment of being lost and without hope of a Savior since the Messianic Hope and salvation was to the Jews. He included the Gentiles into his loving arms and died for the whole world.

Anyone who goes back under the law of the sabbath and takes their sins and the punishment of death down from the nail-scared hands of Jesus, has denied him and counted the blood of his cross an unholy thing and have crucified to themselves the Son of God afresh (Heb 6). They place themselves among the group of Jews that day who said: "away with him" and would not have his blood to atone for their sins of death, choosing rather to claim some security in Moses and keeping the law.

In a technical sense, the Law does not concern Gentiles. It was not given to the Gentiles. The Gentiles were not judged by the law. Those Gentiles who lived in Israel enjoyed protections under the law but there was no sacrificial system available for the Gentiles to take sacrifices to the temple. There was no atonement made for Gentiles on the day of atonement. A Gentile could convert to Judaism as did Ruth through marriage. A Gentile could convert to Judaism and go through the requirements of conversion and afterward were not considered Gentiles any longer.

These as "Jews by Choice" had access to the temple, to sacrificial atonement, and to the national inheritance. But Gentiles in general were not included in the provisions of the law. This means that the law became a judge for sin among the Israelites only. Gentiles were condemned not by the law but by the sins recognized as sin apart from the law although many were listed in the law:

"For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves" (Romans 2:14).

"For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God" (Hebrews 7:19).

"Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God" (Romans 3:19).

~

"And also I gave them my sabbaths to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am the Lord who sanctifies them" (Ezekiel 20:12).

New Testament (no longer the shadows or schoolmaster which point to Jesus) sanctification is not tied to the law or the sabbath but to Jesus. Those who deny this sanctification alone in Jesus are not the people of God. The sanctification Jesus gives has no connection to the law or the sabbath.

I agree with most on this thread we should worship God everyday of the week. But if you are asking about the Sabbath, I think in the New Testament, Jesus is revealed as our Sabbath.
Matthew 11:28-30
28) Come unto Me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you REST.
29) Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find REST unto your souls.
30) For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.
Than Jesus goes on in the next 8 verses (Matthew 12:1-8) to correct the Pharisees wrong view of the sabbath, Stating that the Priests profane it, but are blameless (Matthew 12:5). And that He was the Lord of the Sabbath (Matthew 12:8).

Hebrews 4:9-10
9) There remaineth therefore a REST to the people of God.
10) For he that is entered in to His REST, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from His.
We as believers in Christ have our rest in Christ Jesus. If we rely on the finished work of Jesus (John 19:30; Hebrews 10:12-19), we are taking His yoke upon us.

But if you want to go by the Old Testament Sabbath, it is not Saturday as we celebrate it. But as the Jews would celebrate it. It starts on sunset Friday night and ends at sunset on Saturday night. Paul tells the Galatians that he was afraid of them because they were the heirs of God, yet wanted to be in bondage to the beggarly elements of days, months, times, and years (Galatians 4:7-10). I think it is a good thing for Christians to understand these matters (Sabbath, Feasts, and Sabbathical Year, and Year of Jubilee) from the Old Testament and I try to follow them, but Christ is my TRUE SABBATH, and no Christian is bound to keep the Old Testament Sabbath. As I believe Journey41 has stated so clearly.

We must always be conscious of being living stones of the assembly of the Most High God, therefore we never "go" to church, we are the church, rendering our worship full-time.

There is no law against observing the Day of Rest on the day designated by our Father, Yeshua, (Jesus.) There is self abuse in teaching against the Seventh Day since it is not just the wonderful gift from the Father to give us solidarity in His rest, it also represents that eternal time and rest with Him, to come.

Which ever calendar or day rating is used, there are seven days to a week, beginning with the first and ending with the seventh. If anyone wishes to have the Sabbath on the first day, that is a matter of choice and conscience in the sight of Yahweh, God.

There is no commandment to remember the first day and to keep it separate, only for the seventh day.

No one may condemn or even criticize others who love Yeshua when they observe either the first or the seventh day, therefore any debating on the subject can only stem from stubborness and arrogance.

We worship our Maker as best we are able, and in the manner He has personally given us in Yeshua. No one can exact more from the brethren, nor may they condemn.

It is my personal belief that when we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior and look to His work on the cross, we have kept the Sabbath. Jesus and Him crucified is my Sabbath, I rest in Him. Now I go to church to worship God and to learn with my fellow believers. I do not look at my attendance as a means of holiness. With out the cross, I have no hope. Therefore, I must place my faith solely in the cross and nothing that I did or do. The only thing I can do, is accept Him and say thank you.

Your post seems to be the sentiments of most people that claim Jesus. But,, you haven't seriously looked at this situation. If you did, you would know that Jesus isn't a created day. You would also come to realize that Jesus isn't the 4th Commandment. But,, most people will not listen to Truth. They prefer THEIR way. And you have done exactly that, when you make claims that "Jesus and Him crucified is my Sabbath"...

The issue of the Sabbath will not go away. It will only get louder and louder.

We have 10 commandments,, we sure don't have any problem fouling it up the other 9. Few have little trouble understanding the other 9 commands. But when we get to the Sabbath Commandment,,, all sorts of confusion enters in.

"Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all thy work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger that is with-in your gates. For in 6 days the lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it."

Now, after reading the 4th commandment,, Please explain how Jesus became either a created day or somehow turned into the 4th Commandment? Why didn't Jesus turn into the 5 commandment,, or the 8th?

"Remember the Sabbath day. To keep it holy" < This is the Catholic rendition of Gods 4th Commandment. Only they refer to it as the 3rd Commandment. (Because they tore out the 2nd Commandment, Idolatry)..

It's possible that because the church of Rome shortened the Gods Sabbath from 98 words to 8 words..... And when they did it,,, Men FORGOT Gods Sabbath Commandment in it's entirety! Because it was shortened by Rome, men no longer read the 4th Commandment. They disreguarded it! And they still do even to this day.

Satan is the one that is responsible for making up reasons that you can violate Gods Commandment. Such as:

Jesus is my Sabbath. The Sabbath is void. The Sabbath is now Sunday. Those who keep the 7th day are under the law. The Sabbath ended at the cross. We are under grace. And on and on and on.

One thing I'm sure of.... Sunday will be enforced. The religious will run Sunday the 1st day of the week right down the throats the American people, and then the Rest of the world.

It's strong talk,, but all need to know. And all will know. but most will disreguard Gods warning about violating His law and accepting the Mark of the Beast. Nope,,, they shall do Sunday the 1st day of the week over Gods Holy Commandment to honor the 7th day.

I'm just watching it all play out.
