Kyle Petty on Danica Patrick...

“She's not a race car driver,” Petty said on Speed TV, where he's an analyst. “There's a difference. The King [Richard] always had that stupid saying, but it's true, ‘Lots of drivers can drive fast, but very few drivers can race.'
“Danica has been the perfect example of somebody who can qualify better than what she runs. She can go fast, but she can't race. I think she's come a long way, but she's still not a race car driver. And I don't think she's ever going to be a race car driver.”

in all honesty he has a good point. she does fine going around the track alone but her actual race results have been less than enthusiastic.
 
down in the south, we love nascar, we invented nascar, we get nascar. one of the few sports where a Prayer is said on t.v. before the event begins.
 
I think part of the animosity towards Danica is that she is a women in a man's sport. (It is only a man's sport because there have been very few, if any women racers in it's history.) When a woman breaks into the man's world, people will be critical of the interloper. What better place for her to learn how to race better than in the sport. Also, I bet there are men in the sport who "race" as well as Danica does. Are these not so good male racers criticized in the same way Danica is? :cool:
 
because she came with pomp and circumstance and no one likes that. Everyone makes a big deal she is a women, whoopee? how but have them make a big deal because you are an amazing driver who happens to be a woman and not because you are a woman who happens to be a mediocre driver.

Erin Crocker was a decent driver, and I heard zero complaints about her being in a "man's" sport. I think the main difference is that Ms. Crocker wasn't into shameless self-promotion.

I don't know anything about Danica Patrick, or NASCAR, but anytime you're in a business where YOU are the product, you MUST be doing SHAMELESS SELF PROMOTION.

That's just business.

On all other NASCAR issues... I know less than nothing, lol.

Its easy to drive around in a circle quickly, but it is true you need something special to be a true racer, lets face it Nascar is not exactly the most testing of motor sports. F1 is the pinnacle of motor racing, you need to be a natural racer to just get considered for a team, let alone drive in one.

Its no good just being able to drive a F1 car fast, you have to have the feel and right mindset, the ability to instantly see an oppertunety to overtake and make it happen and all that going around complex corners knowing how to defend the next corner and so on. Then you watch NASCAR and see someone overtake because they are going a few MPH faster... YAWN.
