I have noticed many discussing this in the chats and have not seen any thread regarding it so I wanted to put one. I agree in the thought that we should have an option to put up an afk status if you're on the chatroom and not 'physically' there. I have noticed many times (speaking for myself and perhaps others) have missed PMs or other messages where people will presume i am 'mad at them' or angry about something for not responding. While most people know I am not an angry person I think this will save alot of misconceptions and misunderstandings and will make things for convenient let me know if others agree.

Thanks

God Bless

I kind of agree. It can be annoying, when People are signed in to chat, yet they not there to chat. so then you start to wonder if that person is being ignorant, I know some people can be ignorant some are not. But An AFK button would be good to have, if the person you are talking to, has to: let's say, answer a phone, or make a drink, or answer the door, or do something.

But I have seen people typing in Chats, AFk ( away from Keyboard ) and carried on chatting in main room, lol I mean fair enough saying afk, if you genuine going away from keyboard to do something, but then go chat in main room as if you are not there. That's ignorant! lol Another thing I have seen. When people sign in CC, then just signing in on chat, then they go chatting on facebook or other chat, and leave themselves signed in CC chat. Of course some may get irrate and frustrated that fact that you are trying to talk to them, or get there attention to chat with them, But they are elsewere doing something else.

I Just cant see the point logging in a chat if you not going to be there to chat? So yes I agree it can annoy and make people misunderstand and possibly get mad or angry. The another annoying thing is when people don't bother to log out. they leave it running. Fair enough the excuse is, that they like to be kept signed in, because of there connection and LAH LAH excuses. But When I see people online,, im assuming that they are there to chat with, and when they don't answer again! then your mind starts to wonder if they are ignoring, or cant be bothered talking to you no more.
Maybe a timer should be implemented in the chat. What I mean by that. If you have said your goodbyes or good nights, but don't bother to sign out. a timer will do it automatic LOL

Hahaha as i was reading this i actually got some messages of people asking why i didnt react anymore.. so i guess you've got a point there ;). But you know, things like that are normall in a chatroom, so is it really that bad? If people assume so easily that you are ignoring them or that youre angry at them, then there is something that aint right..

just a question, but why sign into the chat room if you really won't even be there???

Maybe ignorance is the new norm thing I guess. But if it was switched around, would those who do the ignoring like it if it happens to them? lol

Guess people want to be there, but when they sign in they arent interested in the subject that the people in the chatroom are talking about at the moment, or dont see anyone they'd like to send a private message so they stay on but decide to do something else as well and check whats the subject in the chatroom and who the people are in the chatroom untill they like the subject again or see someone they know. Thats kind of logic i think.

First off, be nice :)! Secondly, I sometimes go on will go to the bathroom or get something to eat quick and let it be known that I am there and knowing that say if I was AFK they would possibly wait for my return haha. I think it would be a convenience. The Chat is not always the top window on my computer at all times it's just a thought.

If you have to go to the bathroom, leave the keyboard to get something to eat. If your spouse/room mate/parent/whoever calls you away. Doorbell rings. Being AFK might just mean you had to go take care of something else, not that you've gone to work or something extended. *poke

heres a thought......if I PM someone in chat and they dont respond I presume either they are away from keyboard, busy chatting to someone else or maybe their PC isnt "pinging" or showing up if a PM has been given. I prefer to think the best of people rather than the worst. If they are just being ignorant I wouldnt know and therefore wouldnt get offended. Offence is something we TAKE. We dont GIVE offence.

I think 50 percent of people on here are afraid to be pmd so thats probably a big factor why people wouldnt respond but I wouldnt mind an AFK button since I do go AFK a lot.

Alot of people are getting misconceptions here so let me clear the air...I am not claiming I PM random strangers, and am not getting a response and therefore think they're jerks or ignorant or whatever. I am saying that I am speaking for myself I have gone AFK for say 10-20 minutes (go to the store, get something to eat, do laundry, etc etc etc) and have remained on chat so that friends would know I'm there. I have come back a few times from doing so and saw I received pm's and was not around to answer them. I get the "well if you not using chat why are you leaving it on" argument, however sometimes I mute the volume for various reasons or am working on other things at the same time and still leave chat on...I am not offended or feel insulted if I do not get a response back from a friend or any other individual I pm my thought was that it would make sense to do so (that is be able to have an indicator you are AFK). I am sure everyone that is on chat always closes it out when they go to the bathroom or go do any sort of activity that takes anywhere from 5 - 15 minutes right?:rolleyes::rolleyes: yep I'm sure you all do lol

I completely understand where you're coming from. Something like this could relieve a lot of tension/conflict between chatters. It's helpful and practical and I think it's a good idea. :)

Isn’t that what the “Private Chat Notice” is for, which can be found under “General Settings”? That is to put a notice on your private chat window. So say you're going to be away for 5 minutes just update your status as “I'll be back in 5 minutes” or “Away from Keyboard”, then delete it when you return.:)

I have suggested a possible thirty minute kick after inactivity to roboop. With the current app it's not really possible.
I do believe after talking with robo the other night he is in the works of making a new applet that should have the features we want. It's just a matter of one guy doing it all himself.

Hmm, for me, and i am probably the only one who thinks this, and that's OK. But i don't really care if anyone ignores me or not and why should i?

For the Word says i am to ALWAYS think the best of another brother or sister in all situations first? So then, if i ASSUME Which is a terrible thing to do, i am showing my ignorance an doing the opposite of what scripture says for i am not trusting in the Word. I am thinking negatively of something wrongly about my brother or sister when in fact i KNOW NOTHING about the situation.

So has it happened to me? YES many times. Should the person be curious and say something? YES. But none of us are perfect are we? I know i am not! In fact, i probably have been one of those who have done this to another, as i have seizures and when this happens, i am no good for anything, as i cant even see, or focus. It has happened while on the computer many times. But I cant help or control them. Do i mean for this to happen? Of course not! But what i am saying is, we always need to give the benefit of the doubt to our brothers and sisters for we too might be one of the ones who are as guilty as the next guy some day.

Member what Jesus said about pointing the finger...;0

Its no fun having 3 more fingers pointing back in return!

Just saying... :)

I like the idea of an afk status button in chat. I would use it. What I don't like are peoples assumptions as to what a person who's afk is doing, and especially calling people ignorant for being afk and in chat. It's simply not nice, and may not be your business. However, I'll still share this example...I enjoy listening in as I do housework, or cook etc. That's right folks, chat isn't my life, but if you think I'm being rude for not answering a pm, (which you should ask the person in the main anyways as a common courtesy), that's your issue, not mine. Chances are I wasn't being rude. I tend to think the best of people, not the worst.
