A school in Encinitas, California teaches the New Age religious practice of Ashtanga Yoga as part of their health and wellness curriculum. A judge just ruled that it's ok to indoctrinate children into this religious belief in the public schools.

Ashtanga yoga literally means "eight-limbed yoga," as outlined by the sage Patanjali in the Yoga Sutras. According to Patanjali, the path of internal purification for revealing the Universal Self consists of the following eight spiritual practices:

Yama [moral codes]
Niyama [self-purification and study]
Asana [posture]
Pranayama [breath control]
Pratyahara [sense control]
Dharana [concentration]
Dhyana [meditation]
Samadhi [absorption into the Universal] (Scott 14-17)


The first four limbs—yama, niyama, asana, pranayama—are considered external cleansing practices. According to Pattabhi Jois, defects in the external practices are correctable. However, defects in the internal cleansing practices—pratyahara, dharana, dhyana—are not correctable and can be dangerous to the mind unless the correct Ashtanga yoga method is followed (Stern and Summerbell 35). For this reason, Pattabhi Jois emphasizes that the "Ashtanga Yoga method is Patanjali Yoga" (Flynn).

Where's the drove of atheists protesting this? Oh yeah, they only hate on anything related to Christianity.
 
I'm not really outraged by this ruling. The Bible says this kind of thing will happen. If it didn't, it would make the Bible false.

Jesus says "Everyone will hate you because of me"

and it talks about in the last days people having a form of holiness but denying its power.
 
It's not 'New Age' Religion. The religious ideas are Hindu in origin.
New Age is different and Western.
 
heh heh heh ... fascinating. reading the Bible and prayer gets outlawed in public schools, yet this is a-okay. i'm amazed people are this desperate to find another way into heaven.

Lol for two decades, every time someone said "New Age"...The contrarian chirping class, chirped in with "there is nothing new about new age"...So if there is nothing new about new age, and the new age is just a rehash of the old stuff..then new age can = the old stuff.

Of course now that others are correlating the old stuff with new age, the contrarian chirping class will declare the new age as new.

Oh please, when ever there is even a hint of connection to Christianity, the atheists whine like lil ninnies.
When a cross is used on public land for some type of generic memorial, the atheists whine.
Yoga has just as much an association to religion as a generic cross meant for memorial purposes
 
except that many many people practice yoga on a daily basis for the health benefits and never give a single care about any religious underpinnings, because thats not what they are there for. Meanwhile a cross as inconspicuous as we think it is screams christianity to atheists, yoga simply mumbles "there might be a religion here if you ever cared enough to look for it, but you probably dont so enjoy your downward facing dog followed by a fruit smoothie"

That's debatable. Full on Yoga actually is a spiritual practice and esoteric belief system. In the west though, you find varying degrees of it. Some places teach purely the physical aspects of it but others teach the full on new age like philosophy and belief system along with it.
