Interesting about the refining of silver. I was a silversmith for 7 years, and I can assure you that it needs to be refined over and over. Then it continues to need care and cleaning, because it reacts with sulfur, which tarnishes it. I always wondered whether the Biblical references to sulfur are a bit metaphorical. God wants silver to be pure, and sends sulfur to punish Sodom and Gomorrah, as well, as it being used in Revelation as a sign of hell.

In Hebrew class this year, one of the things we did with every verse translated in the Old Testament was compare it to modern (and I include KJV) and see what the differences were. ESV was consistently the closest to the Hebrew both in meaning and word order.

In the end, we have to go back to the fact that all our English Bibles (or any other language besides the originals) are translations and you cannot totally convey the whole meaning, denotations and connotations perfectly.

Rachel the translators who translated the Authorized Version were great men, but they are not the Final Authority. It is God's Book that is the Final Authority. And God sovereignly guided the King James Translators through the translation process. And I believe that is how they were able to select the correct readings.

No Rachel, you say that someone can get an idea of what the original Greek says by getting a concordance and some Greek lexicons. Well hey you want to use those tools, then go ahead. Now Rachel there is still a problem though with your statement. Which one of the 27 Greek texts do we study to try to get an idea of what the original autographs said?

No one is doubting that the King James is on the whole a good Bible. What many of us are against are the King James Only Cult who claim that there should only be one Bible, that all other texts and Bibles should be destroyed as the King James is Gods final perfect version, when clearly its not.

That verse you give, maybe a good translation, but the King James also has its not so good translations, which created problems for the Cult of King James Only. One example is "Nose Ring",

See the King James translated it as Earring and Face, but Nose Ring is the more accurate translation, but of course that is lost on the intellectually challenged cult leaders and MUST be the work of Satan.

Here are the Strongs entry, you can cearly see that the original words used have duel meanings. When you look into context of what happened and tradition of time, it is clear that the correct use should be Nose and nosering. This also is evidence that the translators were not being divinly inspired to create the final perfect version of the Bible. It simpy shows that the person translating that passage was not aware of the customs that a woman betrothed to be married had a ring placed in her nose. This still continues in India.

This is another translation which differs, obviously using the word Satraps in later versions is the work of Satan himself, why would Satan want this word changed to its correct use?


Ezra 8:36: The KJV reads, "And they delivered the king's commissions unto the king's lieutenants. . ." The "much clearer" NKJV reads, "And they delivered the king's orders to the king's satraps. . ." Who in the world thinks "satraps" is "much clearer" than lieutenants? The NIV, NASV, NRSV, RSV - they do! They put in the same "much clearer" word!


this one shows again how the King James is not the final authority, the King James translator decides to use Lieutenant instead of the correct word.

How is this a perfect translation? It is not. Infact the King James confuses the passage, what is a lieutenant ? Today most people will say "A junor commissioned officer rank", the King James should have used the correct word as used by NIV etc, that is Sartraps , or simply given its definition instead, Govenor of Persian province.

So what is more important a lieutenant or Govenor, when we see its the Govenors the letters were sent to, it makes more sense and shows how important it is. Lieutenant does not convey this.

There is not such thing as a "perfect Bible". Islam of course has its original Quaran which every copy is copied identically, but that is not how the Christian church rolled. The message of salvation and Jesus Christ son of God risen from dead that we can only get into heaven through him is what is important. It matters not if one copy of a Bible mentions, Easter or Passover, its the same thing, people are not going to suffer in spiritual life for reading NIV, RSVP Good News for example.
