I came up with this template for Jezebel based on what the Holy Spirit revealed to John in Rev 2.
1. Claims to be hearing from, and speaking for God, under the office of prophetess. Verse 20
2. Teaches and deceives people to commit sexual immorality. Verse Verse 20
3. Teaches and deceives people into eating meat sacrificed to idols. Verse 20
4. Commits adultery. Verse 22
5. Knows the deep things of Satan. Verse24

The name Jezebel is in the OT only 19 times.
I'm going to come up with an OT template for Jezebel based on those verses.

1. Married to someone who worshipped a false God. 1 Kings 16:31
2. Slaughtered/murdered the Lord's prophets. 1 Kings 18:4
3. Eats, fellowships with false prophets 1 Kings 18:19
4. In the name of false gods, seeks to torment prophets of God. 1 Kings 19:2
5. Steals property in the name of nobility/leadership. 1 Kings 21:7-16
6. Incited people to evil. 1 Kings 21:25

Stilledwater, The 'Jezebel' in Revelation 2 referenced is not the same Jezebel who chased Elijah in 1 Kings 19. The message from John, of God revelaed, is to Thyatira church and there is a 'Jezebel' in that church referred, but she has nothing to do with that Jezebel of 1 Kings in OT. That 'Jezebel' named woman in that Thyatira church who committed attrocities makes no sense even to connect with the OT Jezebel, in my opinion. Nice to make that connection, and, good 'throw-in' by you there, but it's a disconnect of relationship of the OT Jez and the NT Jez . No relation.

There is a link.
He didn't use that highly flammable name for no reason.
Even stephen's book draws the link between the two.
It is important to note what God
expects us to do about such things when we come across a Jezebel spirit operating, and what He
will do about them.
Revelation 2:20-24 might seem at first glance to owe more to the language of the Old Testament
than the new, but this is our loving Lord who is speaking and He is concerned when admixture in
the Church leads to His beloved people being controlled and manipulated. Jackson points out that
the Lord insists that the believers in Thyatira decontaminate themselves from the power of this
spirit and promises them special rewards for doing so: authority over the nations, and the
‘morning star.’ (2:25-29)
There is an implied warning, however, that this will be an intense battle. Resisting this spirit will
involve suffering but this is ultimately less costly than succumbing to this spirit and following its
ways (v22). Ignoring the problem or capitulating in the face of it effectively makes a church or
individual leader as complicated as Ahab himself.

This is right from Stephen's link.
The writer links the OT to the NT one.
Not separate.

Jackson’s scriptural basis centres around an analysis of the historical Queen Jezebel and herrelationship with King Ahab. He also mentions the passage in Revelation 2, in which the Spirit ofthe Lord convicts the otherwise excellent church at Thyatira of the need to take urgent actionagainst a certain prophetess (Jezebel) who was leading people astray.
It seems incredible that a church that was doing so well should have fallen for such things, but itdid just as countless churches and organisations are doing today. Jackson exposes how hiddenmotives combine with a strong desire in certain people to find ways to achieve influence andexercise control. The results of this are as serious as witchcraft itself.

I don't see the connection of the two Jezebels mentioned in both 1 Kings 19 and Revelation 2 , that is all I am saying. This Jezebel prophetess in Revelation 2 leading people astray would be a perfect one to rebuke like it says in 1 John 4 we are to do when spirits come to us for some reason and become voices in our heads, etc. Test them by asking if they believe Jesus Christ came in the flesh. But, yeah, nothing against anything said by Stephenspeaks, just my take is that the two Jezebels are not related. So, I don't know why the writer, Jackson, would be saying that they are the same person from Old Testament times to New Testament times.

And, yes, there is such a thing as a prophetess, that I agree with and they are around today, the Spirit will guide us and lead us and reveal all truth to us and what a prophetess or prophet says will come true and will be in line with Scripture or it ain't good and it's being prophesied incorrectly. The heart. The heart. The heart. It's quite obvious, by the word 'astray' that this Jezebel woman in church of Thyatira was with a heart that was cold as Pharoah's .

Most folks seem to draw that connection.
Jezebel appears to be a highly flammable name given to a certain person in order to show how dangerous they were. I don't think their name was literally Jezebel. Revelation is full of that kind of thing.

I'd suggest those who believe the following, would have to be removed from the suspect list of who is a Jezebel.

1. Someone who doesn't believe God is still speaking through the office or prophet/prophetess today.
2 Someone who doesn't believe God is directly communicating with them.
i am not sure...since the scriptures are written by the apostles and prophets...a person who twists scripture is basically saying 'God says this' which is what a prophet does...even if they don't actually claim to be a prophet...

so i would think maybe a person who doesn't claim to be a prophet but twists the prophetic scriptures could still be a 'modern day jezebel'

overall it seems that the main characteristic of the jezebel in revelation was claiming that God encourages licentious sinful behavior...maybe jezebel could be identified with the antinomians...

Here are some resources that link the Jezebel of the OT to the one in the NT aka Rev 2.

So infamous was Jezebel’s sexual immorality and idol worship that the Lord Jesus Himself refers to her in a warning to the church at Thyatira (
Revelation 2:18-29
). Most likely referring to a woman in the church who influenced it the same way Jezebel influenced Israel into idolatry and sexual immorality,

This one links the Jezebel spirit concept to the Rev 2 verses.

Jezebel’s hold cannot be tolerated over any ministry, and it must be broken. Jesus had some incredibly stern and intense words for the church of Thyatira. Nevertheless, I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel . . . —Revelation 2:20, NIV.Jesus understood the power and influence of the spirit of Jezebel and wanted this spirit broken off the church in Thyatira. He plainly said that these people tolerated Jezebel. The definition for
the English word tolerate gives insight into why Jesus made such a statement against this church.

This site also links the Jezebel spirit concept to the Jezebel of Revelation.

[h=3]God gives Jezebel space to repent. Let’s take a look.[/h]
“And I gave her space to repent of her fornication and she repented not. Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds.” (Revelation 2:21-22)

Yet another site linking Jezebel spirit to the Revelation 2 explanation...

Jesus had warned the Church at Thyatira about this diabolical spirit called Jezebel. Jezebel's aim is to silence God's prophets because in doing so, it destroys the testimony of Jesus, which is the spirit of prophecy (Rev.19:10).

Some guidance regarding the spirit of truth against the spirit of error.

1 John 4

Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.2Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: 3And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. 4Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. 5They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them. 6We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error

Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. 8He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. 9In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. 10Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. 12No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us. 13Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit. 14And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.15Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God. 16And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. 17Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world. 18There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. 19We love him, because he first loved us. 20If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? 21And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.
Ephesians 6

10Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 11Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. 13Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; 15And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 17And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
i'm not derailing just sharing the Good stuff regarding the matter being conversed.

Something concerns me as I read more about the Jezebel spirit concept.

It's treated as if it's a hard to trace, hard to find, mysterious thing, that can only be discovered by probing the hidden motives of people with a fine tooth investigative comb. As if the Jezebel spirit is so cloaked, it is almost impossible to notice.

Then due to it being portrayed as this cloaked, hard to notice thing, it can lead people into going into a figurative witch hunt of sorts, where everyone is a suspect, and every micro-action, and micro-motive gets held under the magnifying glass for intense inspection.

The whole thing gets wrapped up in psychological speak, with thousands of nuances of motive that must be weighed. Creating an even murkier fog around the whole thing.

Yet if you look at scripture, and separate it from all of the psychological, examination of cloaked hidden motives, the Jezebel concept becomes very clear to notice and call out.

I know I'm sounding like a broken record, but John spells it out so simply in Revelation 2.
It's really clear, simple, and easy. There is no need for a witch hunt, or of holding every micro-action, and micro-motive under a magnifying glass.

The Jezebel spirit will be someone claiming to be a prophet, who hears directly from God like a prophet. They will then claim to be speaking that direct revelation from God. They will lead people into sexual immoralities, and eating of foods sacrificed to idols.

It's just so simple. Why do we have to take this simple thing and package it in all of this complexity where micro-actions, and micro-motives are held under a magnifying glass for intense inspection, as everyone becomes a suspect in the witch hunt?

[SUP]18 [/SUP]And unto the angel of the church in Thyatira write; These things saith the Son of God, who hath his eyes like unto a flame of fire, and his feet are like fine brass;[SUP]19 [/SUP]I know thy works, and charity, and service, and faith, and thy patience, and thy works; and the last to be more than the first.
[SUP]20 [/SUP]Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.
[SUP]21 [/SUP]And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not.
[SUP]22 [/SUP]Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds.
[SUP]23 [/SUP]And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.
[SUP]24 [/SUP]But unto you I say, and unto the rest in Thyatira, as many as have not this doctrine, and which have not known the depths of Satan, as they speak; I will put upon you none other burden.
[SUP]25 [/SUP]But that which ye have already hold fast till I come.
[SUP]26 [/SUP]And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations:
[SUP]27 [/SUP]And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father.
[SUP]28 [/SUP]And I will give him the morning star.
[SUP]29 [/SUP]He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches

So the Jezebel spirit will ALWAYS lead into direct sexual concourse? - As if, thus sayeth the Lord - "ye shall have unmaritial sex"
- - And also, "ye shall eat meat that was strangled" - (with the life still in it).

C'mon Still, that's O.T. types and shadows.
If the truth of the Spirit was that easy, the priests wouldn't have missed Jesus when He showed up the first time.

Revelation 2 doesn't say anything about a 'Jezebel spirit.'

How does someone claiming to be a prophet turn into a spirit? Do they have to bedisembodied first?

He was pointing out a passage in the New Testament.

Let's keep in mind, the Bible says nothing about a 'Jezebel spirit'. If all humans have spirits, then Jezebel had a spirit just like all other humans.

That reference, (as all are in Revelation), is SYMBOLIC.
But you need not go to the N.T. to find symbolism.
See Ezekiel chapters 16 and 23. Now tell me, was it a nation or a person committing those whoredoms?
- Now,....who is the nation of God in the N.T.?
- -And how would they commit whoredoms?
- - - (Also it is mentioned TO A NATION in Judges 19:2).
- - - - Now, who IS the Body of Christ?
- - - - - Who are the 'Laos'-(greek term for body of people), in the new testament? - Hazard a guess?

Jezebel cannot even appear on the radar if there is not an Ahab to bring her in. Ahab as king was even more apostate than the kings before him. Check that against the pastors, teachers, and elders in the church. Jezebel was a Sidonian not of Israel. She was a worshipper of Baal. So we have an unregenerate, Jezebel, and an apostate, Ahab. What could possibly be wrong?
They will no longer endure sound doctrine but heap to themselves teachers having itching ears. 2 Tim 4:3

Since the prophetic office is involved here and covered many times, we need to understand that we cannot interpret Scripture correctly by only using a traditional view of a prophet. This idea leads to much misinterpretation because not everyone knows what a prophet really is. To say a prophet is a person who gives prophecies is a definition that's next to worthless.

This is the word used in Revelation:

Prophetess - feminine of <G4396> (prophetes); a female foreteller or an inspired woman :- prophetess.

Prophetes - from a compound of <G4253> (pro) and <G5346> (phemi); a foreteller (“prophet”); by analogy an inspired speaker; by extension a poet :- prophet.
.
From Easton's Illustrated Dictionary:
(Heb. nabi, from a root meaning "to bubble forth, as from a fountain," hence "to utter", comp. (Ps 45:1)). This Hebrew word is the first and the most generally used for a prophet. In the time of Samuel another word, ro'eh, "seer", began to be used (1Sa 9:9). It occurs seven times in reference to Samuel. Afterwards another word, hozeh, "seer" (2Sa 24:11), was employed. In 1Ch 29:29 all these three words are used: "Samuel the seer (ro'eh), Nathan the prophet (nabi'), Gad the seer" (hozeh). In Jos 13:22 Balaam is called (Heb.) a kosem "diviner," a word used only of a false prophet.

The "prophet" proclaimed the message given to him, as the "seer" beheld the vision of God. (See (Num 12:6, 8)) Thus a prophet was a spokesman for God; he spake in God's name and by his authority (Ex 7:1). He is the mouth by which God speaks to men (Jer 1:9; Isa 51:16), and hence what the prophet says is not of man but of God (2Pe 1:20, 21; Compare Heb 3:7; Acts 4:25; Acts 28:25). Prophets were the immediate organs of God for the communication of his mind and will to men (Deut 18:18, 19). The whole Word of God may in this general sense be spoken of as prophetic, inasmuch as it was written by men who received the revelation they communicated from God, no matter what its nature might be. The foretelling of future events was not a necessary but only an incidental part of the prophetic office. The great task assigned to the prophets whom God raised up among the people was "to correct moral and religious abuses, to proclaim the great moral and religious truths which are connected with the character of God, and which lie at the foundation of his government."

Any one being a spokesman for God to man might thus be called a prophet. Thus Enoch, Abraham, and the patriarchs, as bearers of God's message (Gen 20:7; Ex 7:1; Ps 105:15), as also Moses (Deut 18:15; Deut 34:10; Hos 12:13), are ranked among the prophets. The seventy elders of Israel (Num 11:16-29), "when the spirit rested upon them, prophesied;" Asaph and Jeduthun "prophesied with a harp" (1Ch 25:3). Miriam and Deborah were prophetesses (Ex 15:20; Jdg 4:4). The title thus has a general application to all who have messages from God to men.

But while the prophetic gift was thus exercised from the beginning, the prophetical order as such began with Samuel. Colleges, "schools of the prophets", were instituted for the training of prophets, who were constituted, a distinct order (1Sa 19:18-24; 2Ki 2:3, 15; 2Ki 4:38), which continued to the close of the Old Testament. Such "schools" were established at Ramah, Bethel, Gilgal, Gibeah, and Jericho. The "sons" or "disciples" of the prophets were young men (2Ki 5:22; 2Ki 9:1, 4) who lived together at these different "schools" (2Ki 4:38-41). These young men were taught not only the rudiments of secular knowledge, but they were brought up to exercise the office of prophet, "to preach pure morality and the heart-felt worship of Jehovah, and to act along and co-ordinately with the priesthood and monarchy in guiding the state aright and checking all attempts at illegality and tyranny."

In New Testament times the prophetical office was continued. Our Lord is frequently spoken of as a prophet (Luke 13:33; Luke 24:19). He was and is the great Prophet of the Church. There was also in the Church a distinct order of prophets (1Co 12:28; Eph 2:20; Eph 3:5), who made new revelations from God. They differed from the "teacher," whose office it was to impart truths already revealed.

Due to the fact that anyone that speaks for God, such as a minister, or someone who seems to be multitalented and multifaceted when it comes to the Bible whom people believed to be inspired, can be considered a prophet. This is not a far-reaching assumption. Anyone who continually declares God's word, exhorts, & rebukes with the air of authority can be considered a prophet. The original Jezebel of the Old Testament was not a prophet as we think of the prophetic office, but she constantly added to Scripture in teaching false doctrine to the people of Israel, causing them to sin. She did it as if she had the authority to do so. Therefore the Old Testament Jezebel is indeed an example of false prophet, according to the true definition of of what a prophet is.

Me thinks someone is trying to blur some lines.

So anyone who declares God's word= prophet?

The scripture draws distinctions between prophets, and teachers for a reason.

If a teacher or someone who declared the word as a teacher, was the same as a prophet, then all those functions would be tossed into the title of prophet.

Why is there a distinction between prophet and teacher/declarers of God's word?

Because there is a substantive difference.

Teachers/declarers of God's word involves an interpretive process.

Prophets on the other hand spoke verbatim word for word what came from God.

Inspired writers of scripture draw a distinction, because there is a distinction. If there weren't a distinction, and all this could simply fall under the title prophet, then there would only be the title prophet.

11 So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, 12 to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.
John referred to her as a prophetess for a reason.

That word means something in scripture. It's a distinct definible thing that can't be tossed into other definitions.

Teacher=teacher
Prophet=prophet

In my experience people use "the jezebel spirit" to turn people against those who disagree with them. I myself have seen "leaders" online who accuse anyone who disagree with their teaching of having the jezebel spirit. We should of course be very aware of spirits, as they are real, but it is also dangerous to use accusations to simply get rid of a "problematic" person.
