Can we agree with this consensus:

  • JS can claim a prophetic office & exercise the false prophet's position
  • JS does teach false doctrine
  • JS leads the church astray into spiritual whoredom
  • JS has to have a "Ahab" to have authority and dominion, which means someone in a leadership role.

What should we add to that?
I think if all the points go together as one organism of sorts, then yes I agree.
But if you're going to try to make one of the points operate independently of the other points, then I can't agree.

Good point
It's Jesus himself making the distinct observation that the Jezebel type claimed the office of prophetess.
Even MORE reason to pay attention to the distinct words used and not try to blur lines between offices.
There's no blurring when Jesus says she is claiming one & operating in another. It can be an and/or situation here. Either way, the JS is leading the Church astray with false doctrine.

Whoredom...do you mean like creepy charismatic bad spirit stuff? And crazy "words from god stuff?"

Actually upon further review I don't agree.

I think John's/Jesus/Holy Spirit/God/ie whoever ya wanna give cred to.

I think since they link Jezebel to someone claiming prophetic office....I think that acts as a determinative clarifier of how these types WILL work in the church as a whole....Meaning the JS types WILL claim the distinct office of prophet/prophetess. We can't ignore this NT clarifier.

I don't see the connection of the two Jezebels mentioned in both 1 Kings 19 and Revelation 2 , that is all I am saying. This Jezebel prophetess in Revelation 2 leading people astray would be a perfect one to rebuke like it says in 1 John 4 we are to do when spirits come to us for some reason and become voices in our heads, etc. Test them by asking if they believe Jesus Christ came in the flesh. But, yeah, nothing against anything said by Stephenspeaks, just my take is that the two Jezebels are not related. So, I don't know why the writer, Jackson, would be saying that they are the same person from Old Testament times to New Testament times.

And, yes, there is such a thing as a prophetess, that I agree with and they are around today, the Spirit will guide us and lead us and reveal all truth to us and what a prophetess or prophet says will come true and will be in line with Scripture or it ain't good and it's being prophesied incorrectly. The heart. The heart. The heart. It's quite obvious, by the word 'astray' that this Jezebel woman in church of Thyatira was with a heart that was cold as Pharoah's .
well maybe they are related, they are of the flesh that wars against God?

Dont you see by your interpretation...you can say anyone who teaches
what you dont agree with is a Jezebel? Yup pretty slick, but its not new
to your denomination.

Revelation 2:20 (KJV)
20 Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.

I wouldn't add anything. But I would change it to does call herself a prophetess.

Also, the ONLY inspired revelation of how a Jezebel type will operate within the church is found in Revelation 2.
There are NO OTHER inspired revelations of how the Jezebel type will act within the church.
So since the ONLY inspired revelation shows the Jezebel type as claiming the office of prophetess/prophet, I think it's only right to expect Jezebel types in the church to also claim the office of prophetess/prophet.

We simply have no other inspired examples to go off of of how it operates within the context of the church

I'm sorry, perhaps you didn't read the op.

I do believe you're the first to come in here and use a nasty remark. Everyone else has been very nice so far. I suggest you follow their example.

So far, we almost have a consensus. How's this one, Stilly?

JS claims a prophetic office & exercises the false prophet's position. This office of prophet is determined by what we previously read in the Bible dictionaries.
JS does teach false doctrine
JS leads the church astray into spiritual whoredom
JS has to have an "Ahab" to have authority and dominion, which means someone in a leadership role to use them.

I also think my interpretation takes on extra validity for those who interpet the seven revelation churches as mirrors for the current/future church.

If those churches are mirrors of present realities, then the precise reflection demands that Jezebel types be those who claim the office of prophet/prophetess.

Still to wiggly roomie for me.
One could claim that the office of teacher/pastor/proclaimer is a prophetic office.

OK, Stilly, what would you suggest for number one? The other three are obvious

Again you're trying to blur lines.
no sir, not at all, truth is truth, it states this also that the true tabernacle is in Heaven, not here on earth, Hebrews 8:1-4
Jesus prior to going to the cross stopped Peter, his flesh to stop the person from taking Jesus away. And restored the mans' ear, telling Peter clearly, that his Kingdom is not of this earth. And here we are with earthly Kingdoms, not the one that is in Heaven. This one claiming they are right and the other claiming they are wrong, yet both are preaching Christ, having divisions. Do you or anyone really think God is elated over this, when we all are baptized into one God,. by one Spirit and are having divisions.
No flesh in God's sight pleases God, do you agree? So was and is a J.S. of Flesh the spirit if error or not?
Sorry you are splitting hairs straining out a gnat, please be careful that we do not swallow a camel as the Pharisees did in Christ's day
Thanks all in God's love to you
And God does not speak to us by Prophet's anymore as did in the\ first Testament already posted Hebrews 1

I'm sorry that people who claim to be prophets could be on the suspect list for having a Jezebel spirit.
But that's clearly what John shows us.
Please don't let your religious tradition stop you from seeing what John shows us.

This Jezebel person claimed to be a prophetess, thus it follows that modern day Jezebels may also claim to be prophets too.

Again, I apologize that that type of person is now on the potential perp list, but its in scripture plain as day.

20 Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess,
Hebrews 1:2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds;

Continuing while we wait..........

Just to make things more complicated, the original insights or “words of wisdom” that such people parade usually contain more than an element of truth. At some point, however, vital boundaries are overstepped, and both hearing and actions become mixed with the soul and therefore corrupted. Believing themselves to be spiritually superior to others, they are reluctant to admit to the possibility of being in sin and deception. Demanding blind obedience from others, such people have a great aversion to being reasoned with or questioned. Eventually, these individuals become unteachable and unyielding.’ ‘Jezebel spirits’ seduce others to their cause by flattering promises of how greatly the Lord will use them. Once these people express the required level of loyalty, however, Jezebel does an about face. Like Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, Jezebel starts by telling people about the remarkable spiritual gift that they alone can develop. But then they scold them in a carefully controlled ploy that is designed to keep followers dependent on them and trapped in a low self-esteem from which only they can rescue them. (2 Peter 2:1-3, cf John 5:44) This toxic cycle eats away a person’s self worth and leaves naive young believers prone to fear, and doubting that God speaks to anyone. Once these people achieve the recognition and position that they crave, they initially respond with false humility. This misleading meekness is short-lived. That false humility is actually a mask for deeply rooted pride and presumption. Jezebel feels particularly threatened by gifted prophetic people, seeing them as a threat to their zone of control.

You wrote...

Hebrews 1:2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds;
Are you trying to say that since we're in the last days we rely only on what Jesus has revealed to us in his word, and since we're in the last days and God communcated through Jesus, there is no longer a need for modern day prophets in "these last days"?

what about worship with their lips, but their hearts are far from knowing God. Still goes on today, fakers to gain something here and now, self in the way or as Paul put it the "I" in the way, or one's "eye" in the way

Well, a prophet speaks of the future.
The original Jezebel led Ahab and the Northern Kingdom into destruction.
So....it isn't fair to say ALL prophets are false.
No more prophets, no more teaching, no more gifts of anything else.
Seems funny to me.....seeing as Satan has his prophets of doom.
I would think the church would be fairly easily dispatched with, back when people killed christians for the state.
- With Satan being able to move his armies against a church devoid of all gifts.
- - Kind of like shooting a caged chicken,.......or fish in a barrel.
The Comforter was given to alert and keep safe the church.
