It seems to be that the tides are turning... for a couple of hundred years the west has ruled now its swing back round to the east. Been like that all through history.. its sad though.. I think china owns a good chunk of industry all over the world along with india. The main reason is labour is cheap.. and we in the west like to buy cheap its all most of us can afford.

The bankruptcy of Detroit is being widely cited in the media as a model for the use of unelected officials and bankruptcy courts to rip up agreements and impose sweeping cuts on the pensions and health benefits of public employees, not only in Detroit, but in cities across the United States.
The Obama administration has rejected any federal aid to ameliorate the financial crisis of Detroit and counter the effort of state and city officials, fronting for the banks and bondholders, to use bankruptcy to gut workers’ benefits. This makes it clear that the Detroit bankruptcy is part of a broader nationwide policy that is being coordinated by the White House.
The attack on public workers is increasingly accompanied by claims that the crisis of Detroit demonstrates the unviability of democratic procedures, including elections. The financial collapse of the former center of global auto production is not, according to multiple commentators, an expression of the decay of American capitalism, but rather of a “failure of governance,” which can be reversed only by more authoritarian forms of rule and more direct political control by the banks and corporations.
The ruling class is well aware that its economic policies will provoke mass social opposition. It is preparing to meet this threat by means of repression and violence.

Here you can clearly see a complete disconnect from reality. This Detroit city council woman thinks that what you do is vote in liberals so they can bail out your city over and over ad infinitum off deficit spending. Total disconnect from reality.
Obviously that did not happen number one. Number two eventually the deficit spending causes the entire nation to collapse economically once the national debt reaches the tipping point. Then it's a Greek tragedy. But she can't comprehend it. Obama has a money tree and it gives her money forever. That's the extent of her thinking.
As an MBA, I just shake my head at our elected leaders. I'm watching a train wreck in slow motion and they don't even realize they are in a train wreck driving the train. It's madness.

Detroit Government Shuts Down Power Because Residents Didn’t Conserve Electricity
The government initiated a “intentional shutdown” of the power grid, now representatives are blaming residents for failing to conserve energy.
A power outage that was confined to a small area became a city-wide problem when the local government made the decision to shut down a large portion of the power grid as a “precaution”, sending a “strong message” that people needed to turn off their air conditioners.
When asked about the short notice for the forced power outage, City of Detroit Chief Compliance Officer Gary Brown, said “We did start calling our customers prior to taking them down and asking them to turn off air conditioners, but they weren’t responding as fast as we would like them to so we had to send them a strong message by turning the power off.”

When it comes to public corruption, former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick is the worst of the worst.
That’s what federal prosecutors argued on Thursday in asking a judge to sentence Kilpatrick to at least 28 years in prison for his multitude of crimes — a request that raised eyebrows within the legal community as some experts said Kilpatrick could get the stiffest punishment for public corruption in U.S. history.
The government says he deserves it, noting Kilpatrick’s sentencing guidelines call for up to life in prison.
In pushing for a tough sentence, prosecutors argued that Kilpatrick abused the public’s trust for years, put his own needs before those of the impoverished city he was supposed to serve, and ran a racket out of his office so that he, his family and his longtime contractor friend, Bobby Ferguson, could get rich.
“And worst of all, he did it a city where poverty, crime and a lack of basic services made it one of the most vulnerable metropolitan areas in the nation,” prosecutors wrote. “The scale of his corruption was astonishing. The impact on the region was devastating
