Jesus' commandments are:


  • Believe in Christ

[The people] said to [Jesus], 'What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?' Jesus answered and said to them, 'This is the work of God, that you believe into him whom he has sent.' John 6:28-29

Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord [by faith], so walk in him [by faith]. Colossians 2:6

  • Love your neighbor as yourself

A new commandment I give to you: that you love one another. As I have loved you, also you love one another. John 13:34

This is [GOD's] commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment. And he that keeps his commandments dwells in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abides in us, by the Spirit which he has given us. 1 John 3:23-24

For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery, you shall not commit murder, you shall not steal, you shall not covet,” and if there is any other commandment, are summed up in this statement: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Love does not commit evil against a neighbor, therefore love is the fulfillment of the law. Romans 13:9-10

Therefore all things whatsoever you would that men should do to you, do you even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets. Matthew 7:12

That's how simple it really is.

I so like this. I have noticed that sometimes we have posters who are little more than children in years, yet they are grown spiritually. And I have seen posters who study and study and are children spiritually. Some get stuck in one aspect of God and see all of God from one or two scriptures so they never find the real God. Those people never are blinded by that Christ saves us, and love your neighbor as yourself. Rather it is in things like twisting "we are not under law" to mean to ignore much of what God tells us. A little learning is a dangerous thing, opening our minds to God to grow in the Lord is a growing thing.

What are the great commandments of Moses' law?


  • Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. Matthew 22:36-40

What does it mean to love GOD with all the heart, soul, and mind?


  • For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous. 1 John 5:3
  • If ye love me, keep my commandments. John 14:15
  • He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. John 14:21

And what are GOD's commandments?

This is [GOD's] commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment. 1 John 3:23

i'm gonna keep saying this over and over.. WE are not save by LAW we are save by GRACE 16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.[h=3]Galatians 2:16 what more do you need to hear people..[/h]

I hear ya good buddy. Not only are we justified by grace through faith but our whole walk is a walk of faith not by law.

For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God. I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
(Gal 2:19-20)

Faith comprehends and apprehends that love of Christ and in so doing can't help but love others.

I agree that faith saves, but without works, that faith cant be credited or seen. Essentially I think what it means, that real faith brings forth works, and if works do not follow belief, then that faith is prolly not real. I agree that works of the law don't save. Just put that verse above up for comparison and to add to what was said.

No one is arguing this. We are not saved by our works, but our works prove our faith.

James 2:18 But someone will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.

Yes our works 'proves' our faith but the question is are those works (I call fruit of the Spirit) done out of self effort or are they the result (outworking) of the inworking Holy Spirit as He increases our faith through the promises (His Word) and trials (purifying)?

IMO faith without works is merely mental belief, whereas true faith works out of both the heart and mind. True faith is being persuaded by GOD's words, placing confidence in what he says, and trusting him to do what he says he will do.

No man can produce the fruit of the spirit of his own efforts (keeping laws). Impossible. Fruit is brought forth of the spirit through faith.

Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. John 15:4-5

I'm starting to see shadows of the tithe in this. By law, only those who's crops or livestock produced increase (fruit) in a year were required to pay tithes on the increase; wage earners did not pay tithes on their wages (earned money). The significance of this is that the tithe glorified GOD for giving the increase (something man could not do). Abiding in the spirit produces fruit, and we are compelled by the spirit to share our increase with our brethren. Those who love GOD and his word know that this is just the way it works. In this, more growth and fruit occurs and GOD is glorified.

If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples. John 15:7-8

Well it's not just believe in Christ... Jesus' 2 commandments were to love the Lord thy God with all your heart, mind soul and strength, and love your neighbour as yourself.

Its not gonna happen. We are not saved by our Love for Him. We are saved by His Love for Us. Pretty important distinction.

Once we look into this Great Love that God has for us and experience it for ourselves, I think it is impossible not to love Him back. Once we find out about God's Great Love is it possible to keep it to ourselves and not share it?

In Ezekiel there is a prophecy that God says He will put His Spirit inside His People and cause them to walk in His Statutes. How are they caused to walk in His Statutes? Love. Love causes a person to walk in Gods Statutes. Not the other way around.

Those who get it have already gotten it and those who don't still need to... Matthew 11:28-30

Jesus was asked what works we should do (John 6:28).
Jesus answered that our works are to believe on him whom He hath sent, John 6:29.

Sadly believing on Jesus is hard for some to do as they also add works of the law for righteousness, thus showing by their works that they deny God, Tit 1:16.

We cannot mix grace with works of the law.
Rom 11:6
if by grace, then it is no longer of works; otherwise grace is no longer grace. But if it is of works, it is no longer grace; otherwise work is no longer work.

Extremely important distinction. Crucial IMO. I wonder how much idolatry is committed under the guise of loving GOD?

In this is love: not that we have loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 1 John 4:10
