drives ya crazy doesnt it....How dare such a powerful God allow a mere man to exercise
his will. Thing is i find it plain stupid to think in this man "saves" himself. Its such an old and boring
slam. and i mean "boring"
Obviously man doesn't save himself. But obviously, man has to accept what's offered. It's like a hand reaching for a drowning man. Without the hand reaching out, there would be no chance of rescue, but it the drowning man doesn't accept the hand, he drowns.

So are you free to choose? how does Paul put it in Romans 7?
Will seems to be present according to Romans 7, but incapable of manifesting itself into an action because a contrary action (within the same human being) is preventing it.

18 For I know that in me (that is in my flesh) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.

Any mere human being knows that a toddler is not responsible for their actions if they reach up and touch the hot stove. We hold accountable the person who didn't move to prevent the child from burning that hand. When does the child become responsible? When he knows better. The claim that people have no ability to choose between right or wrong renders them innocent of doing wrong if they choose wrongly; hence, why would God punish them? Now, don't anyone give me the "you just don't understand the things of God" argument. God gave us our minds. We were made in His image. He gave us our reasoning powers, which again, tell us that the toddler is not responsible for doing damage he didn't realize his actions would do damage. This is why the belief that people have no free will to choose God is so bogus. If we didn't, why should we gain or lose any reward by our actions?

I don't see the connection between a toddler learning what is dangerous and what is not to humans having ''free'' will.

honestly there is no such thing as free will, the only one that truly has free will is God.
Really? Can God destroy Himself? Can God lie? Can God break a promise? Can do anything contrary to His Holy Nature?

If a slave knows he's a slave, won't he want to be free? The slave in this case, doesn't know he is a slave, until the Word of comes and he hears it. Then what happens?

Your nature is the flesh. The new nature is the spirit. They war inside.

You still have your old nature. I don't WANT to sin, But I still do.

Yes, I am free to chose. if I was not. I could not be held accountable for when I screw up. Or blessed when I do not..

But what is the slave free from, and does that make his will free?

Phil36, I struggled with this issue for awhile, I understand where you are coming from. I just want to know are you searching for the truth here, or just trying to tell us what you think you know and prove your point? Just curious?

so what about the assyrians as described in Isaiah... I am sure they went against Israel '''freely'' and yet it was God who willed it? Now this is instrumental to what you are saying..

Yes they went to war against Israel with their own will..yet God willed it.. and they are still accountable!

Let me ask you another question to highlight the problem with your statement above.

Who killed Jesus? who willed it? and what does scripture say about it?

Hi Josh, I listened up but still the verse you give has nothing to do with what people call 'free will' it might point to us having wills, this I agree, but that's not what I am asking... what is it that makes your will 'free' and where in the bible does it say this?
ok sin is a law to the free and the law is to be lawless 19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
[h=3]Galatians 5:19-21 an so when we accept god we become free from the law of sin.. which is the flesh we then become spirit when we accept god and he opens up our blindness to the truth. And, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness.Romans 6:18 i hope you understand bro 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. Romans 8:2 see?[/h]

Hi Josh,

I understand what you are saying we are free from the bondage of sin... but it doesn't address how we think we have 'free'will

But what is the slave free from, and does that make his will free?
Free from the bondage and condemnation of sin. And no, I think I answered that previously, a true Christian is not totally free in our will, we are to submit our wills to God. This doesn't mean I can't choose a hamburger over a pizza, but the Holy Spirit and Christ in me transforms my mind to God's perfect will, which to be a reflection of Christ. Do I still sin, yes, do I sin less and less, I surely hope so. Our desires become His desires, thus I guess we become molded together, a mingled spirit. 1 cor. 6:17, 17 "But whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit."

Yeah it is.

1. Did God force them against their will to go after Israel
2. Did God use them, and there will, to go after Israel. (did not stop them)

Huge difference.

Yes they went to war against Israel with their own will..yet God willed it.. and they are still accountable!
Yes they are. Because they did not do somethign they did not want to do. They wanted to do it, and God allowed it (did not prevent it from happening) because it was his will. If it was not his will, he would have stopped them from doing it somehow.. Or he would have protec ted Israel and made sure the assyrians were defeated.

either way, It was still a free will choice.

Let me ask you another question to highlight the problem with your statement above.

Who killed Jesus? who willed it? and what does scripture say about it?
Who killed him? People who wanted to. Why? because they did not know what they were doing. Read the text. they laughted at him and mocked him, they enjoyed it. They did exactly what they WILLED to do.

Now. They did not know what they were doing, Like all people who sin.. As peter says in his first epistle. We sin in ignorance.

well honestly my brother i will tell you what's going on with me right now.. and actually you don't have free will since god saved me i can't get enough of him i despise seeing people under the influence of sin and i love god so much that i'm afraid to even try certain stuff or have " fun " that will displease him i also try my best to tell people about jesus and what he did for me so honestly i wouldn't say anyone has free will when they are save become servants of righteousness, the scripture says so too

I haven't denied we have a will, of course we have one.. and praise God for it. I am just curious how those who say they have a free will come to that biblically.. bearing in mind that your will is tied to who you are! so are you really free to choose outside of who you really are?
Well, ok. . .I was a sinner but then by my will. . .out side of who I WAS . . . I made the choice to believe in God's only begotten Son . . . now I am washed, now I am born again.

Is that what you mean? I am having trouble really understanding what "outside" of who I really am. . . .

Matt 23v37 states: ' "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing!

Free will in operation!
