Interest in Demonology

I am a devout Christian with great Faith. In the past it was not always so, I have encountered and experienced demonic activity directed towards me personally. Since my Faith has increased and I no longer fear such things, my interest into current demonic events and activity goin on in the world has not ceased, I find it fascinating. Though I realize Christ The Lord has power over such things, I wonder why I'm so interested in this stuff. Perhaps it's to be well grounded in my Faith in case I experience demonic forces in the future? Idk. I don't feel afflicted by diabolical forces, in fact I feel uplifted that God is almighty and even He controls what they can do. Something that I always am aware of. I am eternally grateful that He keeps me from delving into contact with such things. I know that His will is good and His plan is perfect, so I have Faith that these things won't taint me. Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for Thou art with me.

That said, I never had much of an interest in demonology parse. For two reasons.

1. Demonologists have a warped view about spirits in general. Many are under the impression that demons can be differentiated from things like ghosts, totem spirits, animal entities, etc, etc, etc. The Bible makes it pretty clear what all these spirits really are (ie demons in disguise).

2. I don't really know what more there is worth trying to understand than what we have in scripture or if it is even healthy to develop a strong interest in it.

One thing I have found out is that the closer we get to God, the less demonic activity is around a believer. When you faith decreases and sins increase they have more "wiggle room". However, an undue interest in demons is not good either. This is the classic "screwtape dilemma". First demons try to make a person disbelieve in the and if that does not work, they try to get the person overly interested in them. We are to first and foremost keep our eyes on Jesus, only.

I am glad you understand the reality of the demonic but never focus on the to your own detriment. Peter took his eyes off of Jesus and sank in the water. While he kept his eyes on Jesus he was ok. Take your orders from Jesus first and He will grant you the desires of your heart.

Yes, I agree. Demonology with out Christ is foolish and dangerous. I also agree that scripture is our guide. God still reigns supreme and always will. All we have to do is follow Him and everything else becomes of no consequence.

There are some people called to minister to those involved in the demonic realm. This can be a reason for the interest. It might also be simply because you need the understanding to mature past what you experienced, and there's a lot of wrong and incomplete information out there that you must get past to get proper answers.

It is often written about demons in the bible yet those whom experience or speak of demons can be perceived as mad if they do not articulate them self in a very calm collect and proper manner.

The vatican still perform exorcisms even where christian people who can not help them self and days or months of clearing and cleaning may be needed to drive them out by a professionals educated and equiped to do so.

Have heard of people saying they have a bad spirit being attached to their body and despite prayer they do not leave because they gain to much from being attached.
This one who attaches itself can come across as educated and manipulative and laughs a lot,specially laughs a lot when the person whom owns the body is in distress.
It amuses them to see suffering and often they do psychology (like pshycological thrillers but this is in another way) .
They can be there for years and years and it is incredibly awful and violating for the one experiencing it whom wants there integrity, body, life back.
Some times they pretend to be nice to do harm, get power, manipulate and play games.

That is strange, that it should take so long, as it seems that Jesus could do it immediately. (And that his followers would do greater things than He did).

I have been harassed and oppressed by Satan and his demons many times before. So have my family members.

Jesus will defeat them very easily though. I say this from experience.

There is nothing fascinating about demons. They are evil, with a purpose to steal, kill and destroy. The seven sons of sceva were fascinated with the power that the name of Jesus had over demons. We know what happened to them in Acts 19.

Dealing with demons means dealing with Satan himself. Satan is more powerful than humans, but he cannot come near those who are filled with the Holy Spirit. He is the defeated enemy, and therefore we need not fear him.

I wouldn't unnecessarily experiment with anything relating to demonology. I'm wondering what demonology is anyway...

Demons will sometimes get in by means of a psychological problem a person does not know they have. The exorcism prayer alone, without seeking God, or without the maturity to hear the answer, does not tell the root, and so the root is not cut out. The demon leaves after the prayer, as it must, but the person inadvertently asks the demon back. If you recall, there were demons the 12 could not handle, and Jesus said they needed prayer and fasting. Jesus talks about the root, when He speaks of a demon returning with seven spirits worse than the first.

I do not think this is so. Of course it depends who you talk to, but the standard Greek of the NT, makes them out be different things.

The second is not true. You just created a post, and you are not God.

You need to get more precise in terms for types of creation to separate what you are thinking.

Another question: Can a physical place be haunted? Is there any biblical evidence about this (this is from another thread)?

I once read a book written by Derek Prince about how to cast out demons. A lot of it made sense. However, I had trouble understanding him when he wrote that true Christians can be possessed and may not know it. Also I had trouble understanding how every affliction (or sickness, or ailment) can be the result of demonic activity.

1. No it is not. It is a specilaized and dangerous ministry, not to be undertaken lightly. Some people must study other writings, if they had parents who involved them as children, as they need to sort through the terminology they learned subconsciously.
2. That depends on the source. There are some early Christian writings, such as the Book of Enoch that can serve as foundational without too much harm. But for the most part, you learn just the particular forms of withcraft against which which you are called to minister.
3. Yes.
4. NOne is needed. Hauntings are not usually caused either by demons or fallen angels. The hauntings did not usually trouble the heroes of the Bible, as they did the primitive people they encountered, so there is little to mention.
5. There are three definitions of possession going around, and it depends which definition you use.
6. If a demon convinces you that you do not wish to get well, so you do not try to fight back, the illness is then caused by a demon. The demon makes you keep calling it back. Doctors used to see many hypochondriacs every day, back when Derek Prince wrote his book.
