I know that many many people like to stay away from the topic of anime and manga. In my opinion, most people just don't understand it or the people who like and watch it. I make it a thing when I meet someone and think we could be good friends to ask them a few questions here and there. I absolutely can not stand it when I am with a friend and then suddenly realize that they are a hater of something I find great joy in.
If you do not feel comfortable answering this question then please do not do so. I am just very curious on what all of you think. I have seen and talking to many people to like, watch, and converse with one another about anime and/or manga. But then, I also meet other people who end up bashing on it and call it and the people who watch it freaks, ungodly, sinners, and I have witnessed some of those people yelling at others telling them "Go to Hell!" and to "Get off the planet God made, you are not welcome!". I just find this wrong.
All of your opinions mean a lot to me, please do comment back. I you want to chat with me then go right on ahead and message me! Have a great day!

I'm halfway through Anohana right now. I don't watch a lot of it, but if a friend recommends something to me I don't have a problem at least giving it a try.

Anime and manga are just story-telling mediums. Some are very wrong (porn etc.) and others are very enjoyable and appropriate. I enjoy both anime nad manga. My favourite manga are Monster and 20th Century Boys and Fullmetal Alchemist. My favourite anime movies are those by Studio Ghibli but I also Metropolis and a few others. My favourite anime series include: Last Exile, Noir, Ergo Proxy and Rahxephon.

Honestly I don't think anime/manga is much different than any other live action programming or animated TV programming. Manga and anime can focus on different things and be about different things just like cartoons, live action shows and movies, books, etc can. I too enjoy anime/manga and draw in that style a lot.

Manga = Silly Japanese cartoons! Nothing more, nothing less. I cannot understand why some people who are 25+ years old still watch it. If you want to watch cartoons once in a while, try the classic Looney Tunes or the old Disney stuff, just to reminisce the innocence of the good old days.

Anime and manga are merely story-telling mediums. You obviously know nothing about them. The stories are generally more complex and involved than your Saturday morning cartoons and some are much deeper than your average live-action adult drama. Why must people perpetuate the rubbish that cartoons are just for kids? You seem to be the type of kill-joy that believe adults should only watch live-action. And even if an adult does enjoy some cartoons, that just makes them a big kid-at-heart, not immature. Humbug! Grumpy Cat suits you well.

I don't mind if you don't enjoy anime and manga but please don't insult those who do.

Some of it is silly/ childish (Pokemon style drawings / storylines), but I enjoy the more "complicated" ones.
My favorite so far is Grave of the fireflies. Wonderful story.

in this age where most animated "art" for public consumption is CGI, i appreciate that much anime is hand drawn.

i've seen everything from studio Ghibli multiple times and enjoyed them all very much -- in my opinion for the medium of "cartoons" some of the finest artwork in our world today, completely hand drawn. entirely "family friendly" too. Miyazaki should have a place in art history books, is my opinion.

i appreciate the long-form of manga stories; they have quite a bit more substance than typical cartoons. in the end though they are all diversion, entertainment, things that will pass away. while that means it is a thing we shouldn't set our hearts after, i don't think it is something to abhor. i love art; to me, this style is cool, but i don't have time in my life to devote to watching shows with 100+ episodes of story, especially as for the most part they don't teach anything. i only say that to warn against being caught up in worldly things, not to condemn watching a show altogether. all the same, the pop culture of Japan is decidedly atheistic, and their cultural heritage is a mix of animism and buddhism - this is reflected in most manga & anime, something to keep in mind: do you want your mind on these things all the time? the way of thinking in these shows is not ours.

Paul was a tentmaker, i'm sure when he saw a spiffy tent he appreciated it, even went over to check out it's details, and that he wouldn't have considered it a sin to talk about tents over dinner. at the same time this was not the "one great passion" that defined his life, obviously.

it's sort of a shame that veggie tales is the only popular example of cartooning with a gospel message, outside of a few scattered examples of animated bible stories.

I think a lot of the people who speak badly of manga/anime have only seen the weird side of it- hentai etc...
I've fallen in love with Death Note and used to be a hardcore Narutard, but I haven're really gotten into any others. The culture is a little different, but I mean, people should live the way they want to. It doesn't keep me from going to conventions and enjoying myself even though I don't know half the cosplays.

Many, yes, but he seem to be the sort that has never even seen any anime or read any manga and is just going off the hearsay of others.

You say this, yet here you are posting about the topic and putting people down for liking it. Obviously YOU care.
And someone DID start the post asking the question, so that person obviously cares as well. And others are responding positively, so those people care. Sounds like you need to stop looking down at people and treating them like crap for having different interests than you. And stop being so hypocritical in your attitudes while you're at it.
And before you label me as a supporter of manga/anime. I'm not. I can't stand them.

Now who's putting down who? Sounds like you are the one looking down on me. You dig up and reply to a post I made 5 days ago which was a reply to another post that was aimed directly at me, and spew your pathetically weak 'moral' arguments in a piteous attempt to put yourself on a high moral pedestal. Now that is real hypocrisy! Maybe you might enjoy doing this, digging up vain arguments and creating pointless contention, but all it manages to do is demonstrate how conceited you really are. You don't like what I posted? Well deal with it!
I do not wish to engage with your gripes any further.

What really annoys me is people when people post rude or argumentive post an then when someone gets on an post tryin to to tell them there being rude an should try an be better then they turn on that person an say how there doing the wrong thing an being the immature one... why cant some people just admit to being wrong.
