Can the guy who started this thread define "Christian" for us so the question can be answered?

I will try.
If you search Christian in the bible, there are 3 verses that relates to it.
1. [Act 11:26]] KJV And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.
Referring Christians - desciples (barnabas, saul or paul and others)
2. [Act 26:28]KJV Then Agrippa said unto Paul, Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian.
When Paul was giving his testimony (turning to God, and believing in Christ) before king agrippa, he understand that turning to God and believing Christ will make him a christian.
3. [1Pe 4:16] KJV Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.
Suffering of a Christian- in the next verse Peter was referring to those who are in the house of God.

A Christian is a desciples ( follower of Christ)
Who repent and turn to God (same God preached by Paul, who dwelleth not in the things made by hands), believed in Christ.
And part of the house of God.

then in that case, brother, we are Christians. We are, as Catholics, called to repent and turn to God every time we go to Mass, every time we reflect on our faith, and every time we sin. Going by your definition that is.

The cop out word "roughly" doesn't do it for you here? It gets harder and harder to be completely accurate, when the history itself is so fluid in its use of terms. Our only out here might be a 1000 page footnoted treatise?

well if ben asher really was a karaite...then associating the masoretic text with the talmudic tradition wouldn't even be 'roughly' correct...

the karaite tradition and the talmudic tradition were pretty much exact opposites...

There are many versions of catholics now, like couples for Christ, singles for Christ, but are they really Christians of the bible?

The fact that this question keeps coming up should pose cause for concern.

True Christians worship God as He has revealed Himself, and that is Triune.

Most Catholics that I have encountered are more interested in following man-made traditions, and attempt to bypass the true God by asking forgiveness of their sins through another human - rather than going directly to God, Himself.....and elevation of the virgin to near deity status.

Thus...if Catholics could stop their worship of humans long enough to see what they were doing, and direct that energy into direct worship to the Triune God, then they would be true Christians...

actually if you study church history you will find that your post was completely -wrong-

the roman catholic church's claim of being the original christian church is not supported by any legitimate historical arguments...they can't even prove a single one of their lines of 'apostolic succession'...

but most roman catholics don't know church history...if they did they would stop being roman catholic...

I know the church's history yes it was bad but who was the one doing all the bad things? Catholics nowadays are very multicultural they are not all europeans like your ancestors who did all those horrible things. Why blame catholics for things that happend in the past are you responsible for your ancestors killing and enslaving other people's? If you look at the history of a lot of major protestant denominations their past is no better just as violent.

Not to come off as rude, but God never told you to learn how to drive, operate a computer, how to read, brush your teeth or comb your hair for you to go to heaven either. Your argument sounds very silly when put this way, right? I don't appreciate they way you answered "rachelbiblestudent" and I hope you can show her and all other ladies the respect they deserve, next time and have a nice day.

You are coming off as rude youre just picking on him because hes not the same religion as you. lol

Protestant, or evangelical who goes to a mega church that can speak directly to god and if you cant you automatically go to hell, everything in your life is god's will if you fart god willed it we are not able to make our own fate even god decides are farting schedule. Also exaggerated exorcisms must always be recorded so everyone can see how faithful they are, and they must always be paid large sums of money for them too.

why do so many non catholics specifically non denomationals always worry about the end of the world if everything is faith based you go to heaven no matter what why worry why spend all day trying to figure out when its going to end?

oh i am not using history as an attack against the roman catholic church...one thing history tells us is that nobody is completely innocent...

but i am saying that a person who goes out of their way to claim that history is on the side of their church...like the person i was replying to...should actually know what they are talking about when it comes to history...rather than just repeating false statements about history...

speaking of history...you do realize that the picture of jesus holding a dinosaur was originally created by someone on the internet to -ridicule- christianity don't you?

as posted before, the God preached by paul does not dwell in things made by hands. (acts 17:16-32, acts 19:26)
Asked yourself do you really repent of worshipping false gods, and do you really turned to God who does not dwell in things made by hands, or do you still give reverence to things made by hands.

What about baptism?

What about baptism?

the definition given only relates where you can find the word Christian.

During those days, when someone repent and turn to God, believe in the Lord Jesus they were baptised the same day. (with the exception of john's followers (acts 19:2-5)

Today, some churches required many days of studying about baptism. (I do not know where they get that from)

after pentecost, baptism is a part of being a believer in Christ.

Having said that, there is no record that the apostles were baptised in water and yet they were called Christian.

Give reverence to things made by man? How do you mean? You are right, and I agree with you 100%. Anyone who worships false gods or things made by hands CANNOT BE CHRISTIANS!!

What is repentance?
Voluntary sorrow because it offends God, for having done something wrong, together with the resolve to amend one's conduct by taking the necessary means to avoid the occasions of sin. To repent is to be sorry for sin with self-condemnation. (Etym. Latin repoenitere, to be very sorry, regret intensely.)
What's you're answer?

What is repentance?

Repentance is to turn away from sin.

Ezek 18:30 “Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways, declares the Lord GOD. Repent and turn from all your transgressions, lest iniquity be your ruin.

How can anyone be called born again, if he still gives reverence ot the things made by hands.

Believe in God (the true God who does not dwell in things made by hands). WHich God do you believe?

Let me ask you directly homewardbound, do you give reverence to things made by hands?

As I re-read my response I do not see where you are saying that I do give any reverence to this world or the physical
For I am not of this world and am only in it?
So your ? is. Below is the post that I stated, not as what somehow has been made to appear as I stated different

Quote"When born again of God and from God, one does Love as God does in 1 cor 13:4-13, best description of the engrafted word God puts on those that he re-birth's in his Spirit, and this is only done through belief in Christ and the cross, where this gift from God was made possible
So by his death
Colossians 1:22

Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)

[SUP]22 [/SUP]in the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight:
Hmmm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! what does any human have to do with the above verse except to either believe God or not?

So now can you move onto the new life in the Spirit of God by the resurrected Christ from Father, " end Quote"

Can't argue against that.

BTW, is that you in the pic? Nice ear-to-ear smile!

Yes it is, and thanks, not always been that as I travel in this world here, yet learn from every scenario for I know:
[h=3]John 16:33[/h]Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)

[SUP]33 [/SUP]These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
As I am sure all here are learning this too from God to them prayerfully, counting all things as a joy, not easy to learn this when in tragedy or tragedies

Mmmmmmmmmmm hamburger!!! Brother I'm on a 10 day detox and you just reminded me of hamburgers hahahaha I only wish I could turn into a walking hamburger right now. Almost as much as I wish I could go to heaven by just saying "lord lord" lol brother, you gave me the first laugh of the day. I'm cracking up here in my truck at 6am hahahaaaa

Laughter is merriment for the soul, and a broken Spirit dries up the bones, continue to thank God and thus learn truth from God in all things, not easy at times yet is truth from God
