Okay now I'm curious, so we get often people who can "operate" in prophecy. Even though we get a lot of false prophets, or false teachers, shouldn't we be able to discern them in a gathering?

It's a touchy subject I understand since some can lead other astray, but it is also a gift to bring encouragement and uplifting.

Ugly what u got on this?

I am not so sure it's a good idea, we would get more fiery arguments and hateful words than in the bible discussion forum.

As long as we get to kill the ones who are wrong.

Deu 18:20 But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die.

No worry if he ain't part of the vine, he is already dead.

The real problem is that there will also be many anti-prophecy people arguing that all prophets are wrong (since prophecy ended in 200AD or so), and these need to be discerned one at a time also. This was the outcome of every time it was tried in public last fall and spring. That's why we started the closed visions/prophecy/dreams chat group.

I see, but what about the gift of prophecy that encourages people. Not like Jeremiah kind of prophets but those who use God's word to speak into their lives?

Well I don't know about the gift of prophesy that encourages people because while it is true the few true prophets do this from time to time they cannot be ear ticklers and be called prophets.

Often times true prophesy is what people do not want to hear, so they label them as false prophets because that is not the message they want to hear. And just the fact many people look down upon anyone who believes in prophesy in many churches just shows the world is not capable of handling a prophetic forum. I was called a false prophet many times because i posted things that were supposed to happen and some are not yet happening, however I knew I would be disregarded if I tried to post prophetic encouragement so i stopped seeing how people get very upset over it.
I do not claim to be a prophet but if that is what God wants me to be then that is what i will be, however I am going to be a prophet of love if i am to be a prophet at all.

We do have a chat room for edification. Although every time I've been there, no one seems to be edifying. If it were not for the reception of prophecy threads I saw over fall-spring, I'd say great. But I think you'd have more discouragment posted of the form of "what makes you think you can prophecy."

Well, this is a tricky question for me. I don't believe in modern prophets. So i would not support this idea.
But even IF i did, the number of people who are obviously NOT prophets, and are called out for not living up to the biblical standards is overwhelming. Yet, despite failing to pass biblical scrutiny and having this pointed out, people will still believe in any person calling themselves a prophet. Its quite amazing how giving YOURSELF a spiritual sounding title is all that's needed to lead sheep astray.

And also the false prophet(esse)s in the chatrooms, while we're at it...

The bible plainly states that the wheat is mixed with tares, right? You will always have people that are "false" but you will also have those who are anointed and discerning, this makes all the difference in the world, literally & spiritually

No, it really doesn't state real plainly, what's it talking about?

May I share about this touchy topic. I do believe in Prophets, past and present. King David was a prophet and do you know what he did? He saw a married woman bathing (window peeking) and wanted her(lusted). Called her up to the King's room and knew her. By this act she was with child, in order to hide his sin David murdered an innocent man (the husband). So David failed. A Prophet might fail in human ways. A false prophet is one who teaches falsely not one who fails.

I do not speak with authority on this subject just sharing my lollypop(revelation) given to me by the Man of God over me.

Isaiah 8:20, "To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them."

for the true prophets this would be a great idea. just let it be understood to take everything with a grain of salt and listen to their words. God speaks though us in prophecy so if what they say is of god, than you will know what they say is true. I discernment not part of being a prophet? :)

having false prophecies posted for the public eye would be a bad thing though so maby having one in private would be better with only the discerned truth being exposed to the public eye.

Good points! What about Elijah? Remember when the people blasphemed against the Lord with their idols, and Elijah challenged them and their idols to see who will set fire from heaven the altar? The Lord devoured it up and the water around it, while the idols did nothing. Then what happened? Jezebel wanted him dead, and what did he do? Ran away hiding in a distant land, wanting to die out of fear, right after he saw God work miraculously before him and the people! Prophets are only human, but they should be careful, they are the mouth of God when they prophesy. :)

I am so careful with the prophetic, when the holy spirit first manifested the prophetic in my life, I ran from it. I met an elderly brother who moved in the prophetic and he gave me wisdom that helped. He said, we are in the church age and the prophets must move in the character and nature of Christ. unless you can preach the prophecy from the scripture in context it did not come from G-d. so, since then I have endeavored to yield to the holy spirit and speak the prophetic word with the love of jesus.
I literally prophecy scripture. This pleases the Father that we do not forbid to prophecy and that we respectfully test the words.

Umm, YOU prophesy scripture? I thought GOD did that. God doesn't give us modern-day prophets, especially people such as you and I. So you can predict scripture? Anyone can predict scripture, if they read their bible, where it's all written down..lol..
