lol.....i am totally convinced by now,,,there are two distinct groups,,,,there is the group of Catholics the christian body perceives as being a weak and helpless in thought,,,,,and there is the other group that at any opportunity will slay with words those whom they consider "weak and helpless in thought",,,,what a fine group of followers we are,,,,,,,,,

No the pictures do not speak for "itself." You're simply projecting your made up false interpretation of what's occurring in the form of a false assertion onto them as if it were true. In other words, knowingly or unknowingly, you are lying.

The statement was made based on experienced and a continuation of applying the logic of previous discussion that Catholics worship what the statue represents, in this case the statue of Mary. the present of the word "if" shows that the statement is conditional...It maybe an interpretation but it is not lying (knowingly or unknowingly)

I have a picture of a family member here. If I bow my head in front of the picture and pray to God asking Him to protect and bless my family member does that equate to me worshipping my family member as an idol in the place of God? Of course not.

as said before you can have any photos, pictures in your house as long as it is not a subject of worship or adoration.
Your example as having a family pictures in front of you....
the your family pictures does not represent the God you are praying to and the picture is the exact picture of your family.
comparing this to the calf:
The Israelites made a calf and as they worship God, They believe it represent God. totally different.

The pictures with the statue of a woman however, bear a similarity with the Israelites and the calf.

It is clear that they performing a religious rites and there is no doubt that what in the hearts of those who kneel before the statue that it represents mary...and as special devotion was given to mary by the catechism. The assumption is they were praying to Mary...

Though Catholics devote a great deal of their religious life to the worship of God through prayer, Catholics are not instructed to worship Mary or the Saints. They are instructed to worship God and Him alone. Despite Mary holding an exalted but not deified position in Catholic theology (e.g. she is able to approach the Son with requests and petitions), Catholic theology is perfectly clear that she is not to be worshipped and furthermore that only the triune God can be worshipped.

The Israelites are instructed to Worship God alone too. and yet they committed idolatry.

the catechism quoted by 7seven7 through para 969 shows that the Church have given mary the title that only belong to Christ...and thereby (silently) sharing the glory that belong to our Lord Jesus.

and to add, Nowhere in the bible you can find mary resurrection, but in this catechism it is clear that mary was already resurrected...

974 The Most Blessed Virgin Mary, when the course of her earthly life was completed, was taken up body and soul into the glory of heaven, where she already shares in the glory of her Son's Resurrection, anticipating the resurrection of all members of his Body. 975 "We believe that the Holy Mother of God, the new Eve, Mother of the Church, continues in heaven to exercise her maternal role on behalf of the members of Christ" (Paul VI, CPG § 15).

Since that is explicit Catholic doctrine, not to be confused with your own misunderstanding and false assertions to the contrary, please provide empirical evidence from Catholic doctrine that Catholics are instructed to worship Mary.

A direct worship to Mary cannot be found in the catechism...as you cannot find the word trinity in the bible...

As you have stated..a SPECIAL DEVOTION WAS GIVEN TO MARY...

The liturgical feasts dedicated to the Mother of God and Marian prayer, such as the rosary, an "epitome of the whole Gospel," express this devotion to the Virgin Mary.

As previously said...a woman statue is good but a calf is too obvious...

29 For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren; 30 and these whom He predestined, He alsocalled; and these whom He called, He also justified; and these whom He justified, He also glorified. -Romans 8:29-30
It is an irrevocable fact in the Bible that God is the one who justifies, sanctifies, and glorifies regardless of a person's culture, earthly identity, or religion. HOWEVER, one cannot deny that a sanctified Christian should leave off doctrines that the Bible deems false. There are certain beliefs in the Catholic church that are not found in the Bible. It is up to God to esteem a person His own... and we all know certain believers might be found in the seats of the Orthodox/Roman Catholic Church. Incidentally, catholic simply means ''universal''. With this understanding one can claim that ALL true believers, saved by grace, are part of the holy catholic church of Saints.

The church was not built on Peter.it was built on the REVELATION OF WHO JESUS CHRIST IS.GOD VEILED IN THE FLESH RECONCILING HIMSELF TO THE WORLD.Thats why Jesus was so excited that this was revealed to peter by the father.shortly after this peter gets a sharp rebuke from Jesus for trying to prevent him from going to jerusalem to die for the sins of the world.Peter also denies Christ three times. There is only one ROCK worthy for us to build on and that is JESUS CHRIST not Peter.Peter had to wait until the day of pentecost to be filled with the holy ghost before he could be brave enough to carry out the great commission and although he was one of the greatest apostles he himslef knew that Jesus was God veiled in the flesh and that this was the ROCK Jesus was refferring to.praise God and to God be the glory

22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,
23 Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all. (Eph 1:22-23)

18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.(Col 1:18)

23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. (Eph 5:23)

If we keep the rock argument aside for a while, we all would agree that there is no doubt that Jesus is THE Head of the Church.
There is no evidence that the apostles and the first century Christians gave Peter the position of the "Head" of the Church,
neither did Jesus.
Peter was one of the overseers in Jerusalem who was active in the running of the early church. However he wasn't the head. Jesus is the head, the founder and the cornerstone.
Therefore Jesus (and the apostles) makes the regulations. We need no creed or dogma to uphold the teachings of Jesus or the apostles. The Bible is sufficient.
A creed or dogma is nothing but human effort in interpreting the Bible. It would be good for church leader or pastor or deacon or overseer to point out to the Bible and the Bible only. Any effort in writing a creed would make people faithful to the creed and sideline the Word of God. It would also cause misunderstandings and misinterpretations regarding the faith, which are so prevalent among churches today

Don't blame me. I'm not participating in that behavior. In fact, I'm defending them from false assertions, false accusations, and inappropriate condemnation.

But I do agree with you that when it gets to the point that Protestants have to defend Catholics from other Protestants engaging in those three behaviors, there is a problem occurring.

I suppose the only saving grace in all of this is that it's moved from the battlefields of Europe to Internet forums.

Would you share what is your basis of TRUTH for you to arrive and conclude a statement is "false assertions, false accusations, and inappropriate condemnation"?

Tell me is this false accusation?
Is it false to say that catholics wrongly believed that mary was already resurrected?

Then I must be the one person lost what does confession equate does the priest pardon the sins and whats the hail mary about?

No one pardons sins anymore, the forgiveness by God and frolm God through Son is done at the cross where he did this below
Colossians 1:22 in the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight:

For all that will believe God, will see and recive the new life in the Spirit of God, this is a done deal from God to the entire world, just waiting fro all to come to terms in belief or unbelief consciously. Then at Judgment day there will no excuse for all will have made their conscious choice in whether they believed God or not.

No I have not seen it, if it differs it would not surprise me. I know religious traditions are hard for most people to walk away from. I can only hope people will start reading from the Bible and not blindly following some pastor, priest or some such, no matter the "religion" just because he has a nice suit on.

Quite the contrary, just an example to prove that goats can act and sound a lot like sheep.

What is a good example of the sheep?

People who spend much time on internet websites discussing 'theology' believing(in humility) they have the all important 'doctrine'

Or
Those who don't hAve the time to spend on such websites, as they are too busy doing the Lord's work

Your question is interesting. What then is a Christian?

I will give you a simple answer. A Christian is one who has:

1. confessed his sins to God and agreed to turn from them, (Romans 3:23; 1 John 1:8-9).
2. confessed with his mouth his belief in Jesus as Savior and that God has raised Him from the dead (Romans 10:9).
3. asked Jesus into his life and agreed to die to self and live under the will of Christ (Phillipians 2:13; 3:9; Romans 12:1-2).

Lets take a look at number 3. What is the will of Christ? Jesus said that "if you love me you will obey me", (John 14:15). In John 8:42, Jesus says that His words are the Father's words, and if God were your father, you would love me. Therefore to do the will of Jesus, is to do the will of the Father.

What then is the will of the Father? How do we do the will of the Father? Doctrine is, by definition, the will of the Father. In order to do the Father's will, we must know doctrine. Your disdain, and disrespect, as seen in your sarcasm, for doctrine, shows a disrespect and disdain for the Father's will.

Now, what do you mean by "doing the Lord's work"?

If you mean serving others in their worldly needs, then to do so, while neglecting to acquaint them with the knowledge of the gospel (doctrine), means that you are just making them more comfortable on the way to hell, and you will be held accountable for this. On the other hand, if you are spreading the gospel, then you must be sure that you have a correct discernment of God's will (doctrine) before teaching it to others.

The Mormons do much good work and service to others. But they are leading people to hell with their false doctrine. And so you see, that "all important doctrine", is all important.

Rather than reply to the whole post. I wonder how many people would find victory in their lives according to the 'doctrine' you have written, and how many could be a Christian according to your post.
I wonder how many people on this website have died to self
And I find it sad the Holy Spirit was not mentioned in your post on what it takes to be a Christian. The Holy Spirit gives living doctrine, He is the one who leads into truth

Hlo brothers and sisters. I want to tell you about an experience God allowed me to have a few years ago. I was working in a small west african country called Togo. Building a game reserve for the government in the jungle. In togo their were only the catholic church. Its a very poor couintry that survives on subsistance farming. One of the people working for me then was the priest of the local catholoic church. This man would work monday to saturday for a few dollars and on sundays he would preach 3 services for his congregation. I have never met more devoted christians anywhere in my life. You ask if catholics are christians? Yes my friends, those catholiocs in togo is part of the bride of Christ and I'm looking forward to meeting them in paradise with Jesus. God bless

I am sorry that I couldn't be all inclusive in my posting. It was not my intent.

I would think that most Christians, who are aware of doctrine, and can discern it through the teaching of the Holy Spirit, are also aware of the Holy Spirit's work in their lives. But, for those who don't, it is good for you to point it out to them.

Some seem to feel that they must be on probation and
prove to the Lord that they are reformed, before they
may claim His blessing. But these dear souls may claim
the blessing even now. They must have His grace, the
Spirit of Christ, to help their infirmities, or they cannot
form a Christian character.

Jesus loves to have us come to Him just as we are, sinful,
helpless, dependent, trusting wholly in the merits of the
blood that He shed for us upon Calvary's cross.

The Gospel message is that God will forgive, accept, and
sanctify every one that comes to Him trusting wholly in the
merits of the blood of a crucified and risen Saviour in order
that His love may be diffused through the whole being.

This love of God is a vitalizing power. Every vital part,
the brain, the heart, the nerves, it touches with healing.
If frees the soul from the guilt and sorrow, the anxiety and
care that crush the life forces. By it the highest energies of
the being are roused to activity. With it come serenity and
composure and it implants in the soul a joy that nothing
earthly can destroy, joy in the Holy Spirit, health-giving,
life-giving joy! (Rom.3:25; 5:5; Gal.5:6; 1 Peter 1:8; F.W.
38; M.H.115.

You know, I've just spent the past hour chatting to a 'catholic Christian.
He told me that no one can be good enough for God, God will always welcome repentant sinners, it's hypocrisy He can't stand.
He told me there was a time in his life he thought he could be good enough for God, but God stripped him, through an illness of believing he could ever be worthy for Heaven.
He told me he knew Christ died in our place, so sinners such as we could inherit eternal life. And we are made right with God through faith in his son. I'd say that's pretty good 'doctrine' He wasn't preaching, just chatting away normally.
That man gave up a lovely house, and a job with a great salary to live in a community of Christians, and he told me that he's not as comfortable in his own church as when he goes, along with others to witness to people in the local prison. He's seen lives change as prisoners, some with life sentances accept Christ as their Saviour, and to hear them sing praises to God is wonderful
Of course, to some people that man cannot be a Christian, because he wouldn't pass their rigid 'theological/doctrinal' tests.W
hen I was much younger I'd probably have agreed, but I hope I'm a bit older and wiser now(thanks to God)

God looks at his children with a blanket of love, he does not expect perfect theology, he wants the heart, that man I have been speaking of has the heart required, and he does the 'doing'.

Many(and I don't mean you Dave) think if they have what they perceive to be 'perfect theology' they'll be just fine, that's enough, it isn't and it never was
True theology is living the life required, there is no better testimony to it.

I hope nobody is saying that it is impossible to
be a Christian if you are catholic because any
catholic who is living according to the light that
he has is accepted of God. The danger is
to resist any further light.

God sends us light to correct our errors and to lead
us in safe paths. By the rejection of that light the
eyes are blinded and the heart hardened.

Often the process is gradual, and almost imperceptible.
Light comes to the soul through God's word, through
His servants, or by the direct Agency of the Holy
Spirit. When one ray of light is disregarded, there is a
partial benumbing of the spiritual perceptions and the
second revealing of light is less discerned. The darkness
increases until it is night in the soul. (See D.A.322)

The Catholic church is a fallen church, has been for
centuries. It rejected the reformation in the sixteenth
century and the reformers were persecuted and put
to death. There are many warnings in the Word of
God about this church.

Are you saying there is no legitimate ministry or fellowship that can occur here? Should we not call out the wolves among us?
