A weird thing, in the UK when talking about how cold it is, everyone including TV refers to centigrade i.e -5c etc.
But when they want to talk about how hot it is, they refer to fahranheit ie 30f.
No wonder we are all confused!
Oh and if you bought loose veg you would buy 1 lb potatoes etc.
But then about 15 years ago, maybe longer, the government tried to get everyone to use kilos.
The smaller shops and markets refused as it meant they all had to buy new scales and also their customers did not want to
ask for 2.2 kilos or potatoes - it just did not have the same ring to it!
So in the end the government backed down and allowed market stalls to keep on selling in pounds, but over the years more and more have started to use kilos.
But it means that in the UK we now have to learn both measurements. Trust me its far easier now just to ask for a bag of
spuds!
