Well...that's a loaded question.

Honestly, modesty-wise, it is pretty much impossible to join any kind of cheer or dance team within the schools. Just saying. It isn't necessarily you, but it is how the men watching feel and where their minds go. Now, we are not their monitors, however, we are called to be pure and modest as Christ-followers.

Another thing is the moves. Are they seductive and suggestive? Most times they are.

For those two reasons alone, I'd say no about joining.

I don't think dancing in itself is sinful, however it can lead to sin.

Dancing isn't a sin however scripture speaks against lasciviousness, so it's wise to steer clear of ones with indecent moves as they promote lust.

Violet, I don't want to lay down the law on you. But I wouldn't want my sister to wear that outfit, and I'll leave it at that.

its just cheerleading people...geez. Let the girl cheer. I say go for it. You arent responsible for the dirtiness of the minds of people around you. Besides this doesnt hurt anyone anyways, well unless you fall, but you're good enough not to fall right?

I don't think dancing in itself is a sin - but especially in cheerleading - things tend to be provocative or gross.

Go to the tryouts :) It's not a sin - it's dancing! If you're passionate about it and are having fun with it, then go!
As for the "provocative" outfits: I honestly don't like this term since I believe you should be able to wear what you want without being judged - and it's not like your going around in your underwear throwing your legs around someone random person's neck while cheering. People should judge you for how you are inside rather than for what you wear. Personally, I think they look rather cute for cheer outfits :)
If you decide to go, I'll have my fingers crossed and hope you make it! If you don't, that's fine too - but please not because you consider it "immoral" or a "sin".

I'm in a University library. When I opened highkick, my eyes got huge in shock and I quickly closed it. Not making this up.

God demands obedience of us. That includes modesty. The outfits are ridiculously immodest for a Christian to be wearing. Though for a non-Christian, the first one at least was a step in the right direction as certain things were covered that typically aren't.

What is wrong with dressing like that though? Like yeah I'll be dressed a little immodest but do you think that would lead to something worse? Do you think that boys would see me inappropriately? Or that it would lead to sex? I have always wanted to be on this certain dance team and I really need help with not going. I know deep inside that it probably isn't the best thing for me but how can I let go of that yearning?

This is biblically inaccurate. We Are responsible, as Christian, to have reasonable level of responsibility for the affects we have on other people. A woman can't go around half naked and say it's all the mans fault if he lusts. That is simply a false logic, nor is it, as i said, biblical. Women have a foreknowledge of how men think, and if that woman chooses to go out in things that she knows will draw a mans attention and potentially cause lust, she takes some of that responsibility. As a Christian, the man should also be working at controlling his lust, but a Christian woman should not be doing things that would make it more difficult, either.
And in regards to non-Christian men, they aren't going to think twice about lusting. If a Christian woman dresses in a manner that will get the men to notice them, then she takes on the responsibility of causing lust. You can't put yourself in the role of causing sin or temptation and think there is no responsibility in your lap for it.

And this has nothing with judging a person for who they are. That is a totally irrelevant comment. This is a question of 'is this appearance appropriate for a Christian woman?'. And besides, the way a person dresses is a part of who they are, anyways. So you can't make a total conclusion about someone solely off their clothes, but it still is an indicator to be considered.

Lastly, you're looking at this from a female point of view. You don't see the sexuality because you're not a man looking at attractive women in tiny skirts. Most men will find this a temptation to stare at, dwell on, etc.. So your perspective isn't a very accurate one considering the context of the question.

At what point does 'a little immodest' become 'too immodest'? This sounds like someone trying to get to the very edge while 'technically' staying on the right side. Go as far as you can so you can say 'see, i'm technically still in the right'. But God looks at the heart, and He knows the difference between a heart that want's to do right and one that wants to push the envelope. A heart that want's to do right and please God would rather stay in the clear, fully, to ensure they are right. But people who are trying to have the best of both worlds always want to get away with as much as possible while proving they aren't wrong. But that isn't a desire to DO right, that's a desire to do what you want and get away with as much as possible. How close can i get to sin, without actually sinning?
Also, i see this on this site all the time. People come on here, they have a question on a decision. People answer, but the person doesn't hear what they want. Then rather than thinking 'ok, most people are in agreement so maybe that's right', they instead argue. Few people come here to get advice, but rather are seeking approval of the choice they've already made in their heart, but deep inside feel something telling them it's wrong. So they go out looking for people to support that choice, and when they don't get that support, they disregard the advice and/or push their point of view. Such as you're doing now.

Wow that makes a lot of sense. Thanks! Could you please tell me a way of how to get rid of these wants? I know I have certain wants (I'm pleasure seeking) because I want to join this team. So how could I get rid of that? I understand what everyone has told me and it makes so much sense! I agree those uniforms are immodest and I wouldn't want Jesus to see me wearing them. But please help me with trying let it go. I know it's wrong but a part of me still wants to tryout. Please don't hate me b/c I'm being honest. I am just asking for advice. Thanks!!!! :D

Honestly, ask God to give you a different outlet/passion for this creative expression. He will.

There was a time when God had me take a break from Bon Jovi. I was so obsessed with Jon Bon Jovi that I had dreams about him constantly and even tattooed his name on my ankle. Besides the fact that he is a married man, it was wrong for me to be so obsessed. So, God told me to not listen to his music at all until He told me I could again. :)

It was really hard for me. This was around the time when Bon Jovi's song You Want To Make A Memory came out and was being played CONSTANTLY. Argh!

I believe it was about six months before God let me listen again, and He did so in a weird way. My brother purchased tickets for me and a friend to go to a Bon Jovi concert. The obsession, however, was gone. Completely. I went, enjoyed the music and moved on. Now, I listen to Bon Jovi once in a blue moon, I don't dream about him and I surely am not attracted to him anymore. :)

Now, the outfits and dance moves aren't going to get any less provocative. In fact, they are going to get worse. But God can give you something else. Do you know what God gave me during the time when I wasn't listening to Jon Bon Jovi and God was killing my obsession? Israel and New Breed. I developed a richer worship and a deeper relationship with God through the process and, if given the choice, I'd rather go to an Israel and New Breed concert than a Bon Jovi one.

Wow I feel really sad for all these apparent men out there who have no control whatsoever over their eyes and thoughts to not be able to ignore women in skimpy clothes and instead must uncontrollably lust and objectify them. It's a cheerleading outfit, if you're not strong enough not to fall into lust over that, then I couldnt picture the blubbering mess you must be at the beach.

Violet, I just wanted to let you know that Nautilus has been a defender of pornography ever since he joined the site. He's trying to show a different side of himself, and act like he's against lust, to further his argument. I don't bother talking to him, he just gets some kind of perverse pleasure out of arguing.

Also, Is there maybe a dance troupe at your church or somewhere in the community you could join? Dance is very Biblical, and I'm sure there is some group that is a little more choosy in the wardrobe department.
