If I wanted to take away guns, I would make the meaning of the gun void... By giving the blind gun you take away the ability to say it is a tool used for hunting and peace... And can mold it into what ever shape you want to become formed into your agenda... And no one can fight you because then you are discriminating...

I know it's not inspired, probably not even right. But definitely relevant, and possibly prophetic. I'd hate to be the son of a hunter in Iowa.

It actually sounds like these aren't hunting licences, they are carry permits.
Defensive carry for a blind person? Yeah, not a good idea. They have as much chance of hitting a bystander as they do an attacker. Not responsible at all.

As a person who owns guns (Not saying you don't) I have to see your point and disagree...
They would be better off with mace or a taser... Something life detouring but not life threatening do you agree?
I too own a gun.
The trouble is that if you go about saying this about responsible blind gun-owners, it won't be long before some magistrate comes around and says the same thing to you.
"Why not go non-lethal, my boy? You don't need to the power to kill someone in your back pocket."
To which you would angrily say back. "How do you know what I need?"
That's the real crux of the matter.
I guess I should have explained in depth I apologize... How does the blind man know a school doesn't lie in the direction where he is pointing the gun? Also with your argument about the 3 feet rule you are fine with mace, I would use mace if within 3 feet 10 out of 10 times... The reason I am getting a concealed carry permit in November is because in my area there are drive by's with deaths every week... They are not with in 3 feet... I also drive on very remote roads... When being robbed while broken down... they are normally approaching with force and don't confront at 3 feet...

Folks, just because someone is legally blind does not necessarily mean someone is totally blind.
Approximately ten percent of those deemed legally blind, by any measure, have no vision. The rest have some vision, from light perception alone to relatively good acuity. A friend of mine who is legally blind can still hit a squirrel at 25 feet with his colt 45 semi auto pistol. (He doesn’t like them getting in his bird feeders, so he turns them into dinner). A friend of mine in law enforcement (Sheriff of a rural county) says that “90% of all gun fights in the civilian and law enforcement world occur at 3 yards or less, and 80% of those happen at a range of one yard or less”. Many who are legally blind including my friend that is legally blind that shoots squirrells at his bird feeders would have no problems under those circumstances seeing there targets.
Just my opinion but I think it might be wise to determine the eligibility of the legally blind on a case by case basis. I know some who are legally blind that I would not consider but someone like my friend shooting squirrells at his bird feeder can probably see good enough to safely handle a firearm in a close quarter defense situation.

I'm not American, but I really like the American second amendment and their protection of their right to bear arms. This being the case, surely blind people have as much right to guns and arms as the next guy? If the blind guy lives alone, he can't really do that much harm (sure he might shoot a cat or something, but only if it were on his property), and having a weapon nearby probably gives him a better sense of security when things go bump in the night.

I am mainly concerned with overpenetration of fired rounds. Knowing your target and what lies beyond is especially important in a defensive situation. Yes you have a constitutional right to own the gun, but the carry permit is not constitutionally guaranteed (although it should have been, our founding fathers practiced concealed carry).

You don't have to have a permit to carry a gun... I can walk into my town with an ar-15 legally without a permit... But for it to be concealed then yes I would have to have a concealed carry permit.
Thing is though, you practice your 2nd amendment like they did way back when... Your looking at some jail time.. If I were to bring a gun strapped to my back into a city, unloaded breach open... I would be considered a 'threat'... And now since I am a threat the cops have a right to detain me and strip me of all liberties to keep the peace... (Freaky) Even though I was never a threat to begin with... And followed every law...

Yes and its called a drivers license...simply for logging purposes upon the transfer of ownership...nothing more necessary...nor should there be

I think this is key, I was just thinking that. I have a aunt who is legally blind, she has 20/200 vision. She wears thick glasses, but she certainly doesn't need a cane or a German Shepard. It might take her 3 years to thread a sewing machine, but with the glasses I bet she could enjoy shooting sports.
