This thread is dedicated for all, to recrive a clear picture of which Laws are still in used today that God permits, if you have any to share please do, and please give an explanation on why the law still is in effect today in this age thank you and God bless
1 Corinthians 14:34 Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law.
I belive it is to respect , the Overseers & Deacons when they are preaching the word of God to the congregation.
"Woman speaking in the Church" is not talking about A woman testifying, or teaching a Bible Class for Children, etc.
Paul is eferring to a woman having the role of Preacher, or a Pastor, this is not allowed.
So,
I don't see Paul saying anything about the role of Pastor or Preacher...........
As well, would this be a "custom?" Being a law regarding the "customs" of that period? If so, are laws concerning "customs" still in effect for today's Church?
Pastors were teachers, and the role is called Pastor/Teacher.
"I do not permit a woman to teach or have authority over a man; she must be silent." (1Ti 2:12)
Paul is speaking of being a pastor over others in the church.
Women are not allowed to be pastors.
And in the face of much resistance, the Catholic church is still faithful to that command.
No, and no, God did not COMMAND or FORBID it.............and you are ONLY arguing about authority over man, and my point was to show that Paul told women to keep silence...........
you have to read the comment from the other poster to have the proper context..............as well, you completely miss the context of Paul's instructions............but that's ok.......
You're right. I didn't go back far enough. But as far as the context of Paul's instructions, when we look
at Paul's commands to women, we see that he grounds them all in the creation order,
either of the old creation or the new creation.
His command that "women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission,
as the Law says ("your husband shall rule over you"). If they want to
inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home, for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in church (1Co 14:33-35)," is grounded in God's law in Ge 3:16.
His command that women should wear a sign of authority over them is grounded in the creation order where "the man is the image and glory of God, but the woman is the glory of the man. For man did not come from woman, but woman from man; neither was man created for woman, but woman for man (1Co 11:7-9)."
His command that wives submit to their husbands, "For the husband is head of the wife as Christ is head of the church, his body (one flesh of marriage), of which he is the savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in
everything, (Eph 5:23-24)" (including learning) is grounded in the new creation order.
And his command that "a woman should
learn in
quietness and full submission" (1Ti 2:11), grounded in the creation order (vv. 13-14), is also consistent with Peter's statement that a woman's beauty "should be that of her inner self, the unfading beauty of a
quiet and gentle spirit. . .as the holy women of the past were submissive to their own husbands" (1Pe 3:3-5).
So we know that these commands from Paul are more than just local custom, for he grounds them in the orders of both God's old creation and new creation.
