Have you ever experience seasonal affective disorder (SAD). Another name for seasonal affective disorder is winter blues. I don’t know about you, but during the summer and spring months, I am as happy and cheerful as can be but during the winter months, when it is cold and dark, I get SAD. During this time, I appreciate church so much more.
How have you handled SAD?

I can't relate. I am a naturally depressed person, and this is all year round. If anything i can often enjoy the winter time. While i do enjoy a bit of summer, but i can tire of it quickly. My eyes are a bit sensitive to the bright sun. I like the softer light of winter, the chill in the air. Though i find if the winters go too long here it will get to me, as it did earlier this year. But we had a long winter.

Hi Friend,
You enjoy the winter and I enjoy the summer. Can you imagine if we were neighbors:eek: we would probably never see each other. I would try to come out only during the summer, and you would come out during the winter. Well we are here for each other.

I feel renewed and refreshed in the fall and spring. Summer is so hot and dead here that it's hard to get outside much. Winter isn't bad at all, but I love that first day of warmer weather that comes after, and sinks into my bones like a long-lost friend coming home.

haha... actually i'm a bit of a hermit. I don't go out much at all. I'll probably be that old weird guy living by himself at the end of the block that everyone thinks is mean and creepy.. hahahaha

Just as long as you don't have a unibomber style shack and a tinfoil hat, then that's okay.

I can also relate to enjoying the winter. My favorite seasons are spring/fall and winter. Snow is so beautiful (not that we get a ton of it here) and that brisk cold means that when you go outside, you get to have the whole place to yourself (after all, that's what winter coats are for).

No, never have, but know people who do and it certainly gives them a real hard time!

I do to some degree, but I also enjoy how beautiful snow is, especially when everything outside is glittering white. I enjoy the spring, summer, and fall more however, that means I can be outside and enjoy nature and physical activity. The thing about winter is that there is no sun and there is scientific evidence that sun actually promotes happiness. I was once in Alaska for TDY and I remember it always being overcast. Then I read that Alaska has the highest suicide rate. Well no wonder, the state is overcast 3/4 of the year.

I live by this; " I can do all things through Christ, who Strengthens me"

Night, Day, Summer, Winter Hot or cold, just put him FIRST

Hi Grace-Like-Rain,
I definately can relate. During the spring season I usually feel refreshed, revitalized and very hopeful. During the fall the colorful leaves are a beautifully sight to behold. But then that chill sets in the air, and I begin to feel that dreaded feeling approaching. Anyhow, I think I will work hard on convincing myself that I love all the seasons. If I tell myself this every day for at least one month, I may actually convince myself.

Hi ServantStrike,

I wish I could say the same. During the winter I feel cut off from the world. No matter how many layers I put on I am still uncomfortable. At least during the summer, I can drink plenty of ice-cold water to keep me cool. Every now and then, the summer is brutal though. One nice thing about the winter is watch the snow fall from the sky.

Hi Jb,
Oh how I wish I felt the way you do. This SAD I am experiencing could be because it is hard for me to adjust to the cold here in the US. I am from Jamaica West Indies, where the temperatures are warm all year round.

Hi xAlphaOmega,

I agree the snow is beautiful to look at. When I was 12 years old, I use to enjoy eating snow. I now look back and say why did I do that. I could not live in Alaska, because I probably would die from a broken heart. Sometimes, I find such comfort knowing that spring will return soon.

I will have to think about getting together with family during the holidays. This will definately help cheer me up.

Then, again If your in a really bad mood the tin foil hat and looking creepy might be your best bet to keep people away:)

My husband has had this disorder at times. We are northerners, but when we lived in Michigan, particularly, it really effected him because of the consistently cloudy weather in the wintertime. Your body is craving Vitamin D. Being from the West Indies, you are used to a lot more sun year round which provides you with Vitamin D. If you take a daily supplement during the late fall and winter months, you should feel a lot better!
